It’s obvious by now to the vast majority of people that us, West Brom and a Fulham are by far and away the worst three teams in this division by some margin.

Finishing 3rd bottom will be an achievement given our truly horrendous start to the season.

Agree....Brighton formed a defensive wall.
Liverpool had loads of the ball but hardly created a single chance...they looked so clueless....lacking in energy, effort and confidence.
Brighton didn’t attack much...but when they did....it was in numbers and they often looked dangerous.

Brighton definitely deserved the win....and could have won by more....reminded me of our win away at Man Utd.

My money would be on it not getting any worse before then, and of course any improvement makes the last-6 task even more achievable.
So it looks like it it's Newcastle we have to catch....and that involves beating them at theirs. Do that, and it's very much game on.
There are, of course, several possible out comes that could either benefit, or scupper our survival hopes.
For example Fulham.
They could turn a draw against Newcastle into a win and have an unexpected win at Chelsea or Southampton.
(They don't have a game listed for the 24th yet, but I put 3 points down anyway)

It's going to take a bit of a football miracle. But they can happen... And i do think Newcastle (and Burnley) are the realistic ones to hunt down.

Brighton have too many good players. But Burnley have a tiny squad so injuries could hurt them badly, whereas Newcastle's hopes are almost pinned on Wilson.

So to reach 40 points they need 26 points from 17 games which is just not going to happen. For you to reach 40 points you need 29 points from 16. That is not far short of 2 points per game which is totally unrealis tic. I would be surprised if3rd bottom reaches 30 points so one more than that would guarantee survival.

But to stay up we have to catch the points total of the 4th bottom team which is 22. It might not be a high points tally required to stay up, but that is because the bottom three are adrift from the others.

There’s absolutely no chance that one of Newcastle, Burnley, Brighton or whoever finishes 17th will be on 31 points, that’s almost a ludicrously low figure, I think you misunderstood what I meant. Either one of the current bottom three would need at least 40 points, probably 38/39 realistically, to stay up.

Edit: It can obviously all change and one of those teams above us could go on an awful run, but I don’t see it personally.

Please folks these projections/stats on us and other teams is pointless I am afraid even though I admire the optimism.

I think the bottom 3 are doomed. It will not even get to the last 3 or 4 weeks.

If we win 6, draw 6 and lose 6 we are still down. 35 points wont be enough as those 3 above only need like 2 wins and 3 or 4 draws or 3 wins and a few draws.

We might have to win 7 or 8 of the last 16.

Bear we mind we play Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, Leicester which are probable defeats then we only have scope probably to lose 1 more game.

I think in a few weeks we can consign any discussion over us having any chance to it's done. Sadly.
