Hmm! I know what you mean mate, but the role of agents is a bit like the role of a broker. They have built up knowledge of which clubs are looking for what type of player and how much they are willing to offer. It’s in the players interest to work through an agent, financially.
A comparison closer to home for some of us may be an estate agent. We don’t have to use them for buying or selling a house but most of us do, because they (should) know the market, know what sells for what and where, have a list of useful contacts and information to make things easier and better.
Having said all that, there is something disturbingly thick about some footballers that makes me wonder how they ever manage to get up and get dressed in a morning, never mind anything else!
I'm sure football agents, like estate agents, are useful. And like estate agents, they are creaming off a healthy profit by creating expense where none ought exist and other nefarious tricks.
