why can't we kill games off?

Threads like this stronlgy point out the main difference between blades and owls. We are undefeated in 12 games and have just taken 7 out of 9 points. We are third in the table and 2 points off second spot. Yet we are still all pissed off and the baldes are shit! The dark side would be covering Sheffield in blue and white spunk if it were them and I mean in league one not the championship.

Saturday was unacceptable, but we are doing quite well in the grand scheme. Comments like we are below Tranmere and Stevenage are daft at this point as we are not even halfway through the season.

Reading some posts complaining that we are basically just a bunch of shitheads and our manager has no idea makes me wonder why they would go to the match at all? No we are not Real Madrid, but we are undefeated in the league we play in and looking strong (although I did have to check the league table after this thread as it made me think we were bottom)

Feel the shitness, the shitness of the mega blades.

But you're missing the point - Wednesday are playing in the Championship against the likes of Bolton, Wolves, Blackburn, Cardiff, Crystal Palace etc we are playing the likes of Bury, Hartlepool, Crawley, Stevenage, Leyton Orient and the rest
Yes we are undefeated but we have not won at home for four matches and Saturday was auguably the worst performance of the season
We are so threadbare in the middle of the park we continually play players out of position to fill the gaps yet we have seven or eight strikers on the payroll!
We have scored less goals than any team in the top six !
We still attract gates that most of the Championship teams would love to have and our away support is fantastic given that we are watching third division football!
We are not nailed on to win automatic promotion and most of the comments on here are borne out of the frustration of seeing the team throw away points week after week at home.
We go every week to see the Blades and we expect better - the manager is the captain of the ship and will take the blame when it all goes wrong
Elimentary mistakes, giving goals away, missing guilt edged chances every match all add to the frustration-
Don't knock people who want better - we deserve better - we are Sheffield United

Fiery (and Metal for that matter), the above phrase sums up why I'm flogging a dead horse with your viewpoints and mate, you sure are flogging one with me too.

So we'll leave it there and you continue to take your misery ridden stance and I'll try to stay positive a la the late and much missed Duncan Disorderly ;)

we are a division one team too if you hadnt noticed so thats why we are playing hartlepool bury crawley etc
and unlike wednesaday we arent losing all our home games a pertinent fact you gloss over

we haven't lost for 4 home games just as much as we haven't won them
draws are going to happen,

worst performance of the season ? I remember going to leeds and losing 4-0 with 4 games to go in 1990
definitely the worst of that season as we dropped to third, but we went up so drawing 1-1 due to a last gasp equaliser that hurt , isnt close to being that bad, a point could make all the difference

The important thing is that although we are not playing particularly well, we are not losing.

Sure, snatching a draw from the jaws of victory is very frustrating, something wrong with you if that doesn't frustrate you in all honesty, but we are a point behind 2nd placed Stevenage ffs and some of you go on as if we are dead and buried already. I'd understand that view if we were mid table or towards the drop zone, but we're not, we're right up there and well in the mix.

Expect more of the same from the oppo this weekend as that's their game, and I will definitely take a point at that place right now.

I do share the view that we must stop pissing these home games up though, and rather than protect a one goal lead we should be looking to open the floodgates after our first goal. We didn't deserve to win Saturday from what I've read and heard, but we should have beaten both Notts County and Bury, those extra 4 points would be handy but I know for a fact there will be times this season we will play even worse, yet manage to gain those points back.

3/4's of the season to go chaps, a long way to go and plenty of time to improve.

I wouldn't knock anyone for wanting better. Regardless of all the bickering between people on this forum I do not doubt that on one thing everyone is agreed - we all want better than we have got at the moment.

But we do not deserve better just because of who we are. Most football supporters outside of Sheffield regard us as pretty insignificant anyway. The causes/reasons are numerous, but as a club we deserve to be where we are. The fact we are Sheffield United doesn't mean we deserve anything better no matter how much we want it. It's that type of talk that makes supporters of some of the larger premier league clubs somewhat irritating.

I think the main point is that there does not seem to be any positive improvement in the way we are playing - we are playing crap football and drawing or playing poorly and winning away by 1-0. Some may see that as a positive but I see nothing in the way we are playing to suggest we are all of a sudden going to start winning games by more than one goal. In fact the trend to me appears to be - our luck will run out and we will struggle to find a win in the not too distant future.

We give the ball away too cheaply and create very few chances in 90 minutes. I wouldn't mind so much or be as concerned if we were creating hatfuls of chances every game and came close to scoring regularly - but for whatever reason didn't. The cold truth is that we don't even look like scoring more than one goal a game so the promise of tonking someone soon seems utter pie in the sky.

Still waiting for that Tranny bubble to burst - even though they missed their two best players on Saturday - and still came back from 0-2 down at home.

Anyone here believe we would recover from a 2-0 deficit at home without KMac and Blackman?
No? - Thought not.

Im sure DW is top of the list in those sentiments
but hes baking a cake , hes got the ingredients and mixed them but its not risen yet , never mind putting the icing on it

Yeovil being down 10 men helped
and stevenage lost , they went down to 10 but couldnt fight back like we did with 9 at scunny , so theres always swings and roundabouts over 46 games

and why when any other team has 2 players out they are their best players , lucky we never miss anyone then isnt it

we don't need a keeper.. we need someone who can run with the ball and attack space.

We (as in the 18,000 plus) who turn up at the Lane week in week out deserve better - not the club - McCabe & Co have got us into this mess!!

Commendable though it is that so many turn up week in, week out to watch what is often pretty poor football, we still don't deserve success any more than the 3,000 or so who turn up to watch Rochdale, Cheltenham etc every week.

We are under performing as a club relative to things like size of fan base, turnover etc and ought to be doing better, but we are where we deserve to be.

But to be fair Old Blade Rochdale and Cheltenham probably aspire to be midtable Division Three - I would like to think the Blades should be aiming top end Championship as a minimum - as I've already said we are where we are because we deserve to be - McCabe's to blame poor leadership, poor direction, poor appointments!

Not knocking fans that want better fiery. I guess my point is it seems some are not happy unless we are annihilating teams week in week out at this level. Its clearly not going to be like that this season. Might not matter, look at Charlton last season, right 1-0 specialists.

We have not been playing to well, but when you look at the table, its not bad is it? Do you expect us to be top of the league from game 1 and there there for the entire season? If so, fair enough, I just want to be in the top 2 on the last day and if that means finishing 20 points behind Tranmere, Stevenage etc I couldnt care less!

Long gets injured on Wednesday, we will have a 16 year old in the net with a 16 year old as cover. I think we need a keeper until Howard gets fit

Willis is 18 years old.
And who knows - he may be able to handle the pressure and be as assured as Harry Maguire has been in his position.

I would play Willis on Wednesday just for the experience. If we lose so what its a win win situation

FFS!!!! Doesn't take longs does it.
Do people really not remember what it was like watching a team sent out by Blackwell????

I do indeed. The first half would pass almost unnoticed, with rarely an attempt on goal. The standard was shite. Free kicks and corners were rarely worth getting excited about, but the 'win ratio' was good.

Plus ça change.

you've missed the point.. we're not one nilling people either

Not every week but we have just won 2 out of 3 games by one goal.

Have we all forgotten what a Herculean task we all said DW faced when he got the job? How we'd do well to finish mid-table? I haven't. It's still true. He's doing his considerable best to turn around a juggernaught left grounded by Semi-Pro and Quickfix and to replace the abomination of Hoof with proper football. It's a work in progress and we are moving forward. But it will, as we all agreed not that long ago, take time.

Carry on Danny
(but please tell them not to sound the retreat everytime we go one up - evidence suggests it's a bad idea!)

we've reverted to hoof pinchy.. whilst this may be a temporary blip, i'd still have to admit i'm very concerned by this turn of events
don't get me wrong.. i'm not calling for DW's head or anything.. but i'm concerned this is the start of another slippery slope.. we'll see

we've reverted to hoof

It's a reflection of the (in)ability of Hill and Williams to play it out from the back, alongside the complete absence of a left sided midfielder to show for them. Opposition teams can allow our left back to receive the ball knowing that it will result in a long punt or a chance to win the ball back if they dare to play it short.

We need LJF back and on-form, plus a genuine player in front of him. In the meantime, patience......
