Why are we bottom ?

Easier said than done though. They are allegedly paying Watkins £75k per week in addition to transfer fee of £33m. We are not operating at those levels. Ross Barkley is another great signing for Villa but is on £100K+ per week. Not saying our recruitment has been perfect but it shows what we are up against.
We could afford barkley on loan for the season though but agree on the watkins permanent wise yes we can't really afford them but on loan easily can

Not sure we’ve got that sort of money to throw at a loan, hence why Henderson wasn’t signed. £5m+ in wages plus whatever loan fee would be required is a hell of an outlay for a player you don’t own. I agree that he is exactly the type of player we need though.

But we were happy to pay high on transfer fees but not the wages think that's the problem

Agreed. Our outlay on fees has been reasonably high considering we’ve not brought anything back in through sales but I’d guess our wage bill is easily the lowest in the league. This obviously means we are having to sign unproven talent who we hope will be good enough to step up, which by it’s very definition is a little hit and miss.

Loans can be a tricky business if there is not an option to purchase. If he plays really well all you have done is showcase him for the parent club and you are still in the position of needing a player.

So in summary

- Our system of expecting defenders to both prevent and creates goals is flawed in the fact that its such a complex role one injury fucks you if you don’t have reliable back up.

- Due to JOCs injury we are now one dimensional allowing teams to simply block our lines of attack on the right.

- Our keepers ability is nothing like Henderson’s Xg wise which a lot on here highlighted in the summer.

- The new players have not yet got use to preventative movements design to block passing channels, further up the pitch meaning we have to sit deeper (more compact).

- Our strikers are not prolific enough and rarely if at all create something out of nothing.

- Oh dear, after most of us have watched every game this season this is what we have been moaning about and created a thousand threads for.

- Lets hope we don’t lose any players if we get relegated.

The lot is going through Norwood and although effective in his previous role, he’s now being exposed.

Fun idea let’s change the system, or are we nearly there. And by there I think we mean getting a draw.

Where does the £150million go, we are always comparing our poor little wage bill with everyone else’s pots and pots of money, don’t they have the same income and concerns.

No our income isn’t the same, we will be miles behind most if not all of our rivals on our gate receipts, sponsorship revenue, corporate hospitality income, etc. We also don’t have a sugar daddy owner who is prepared to subsidise huge losses as the owner of Villa, Fulham and Everton seem happy to do. Whilst £150m might sound a lot, it’s peanuts for a premier league football team.

I know why - in 9 of our 11 games we conceded 1 more goal than we scored. In one game, that goal difference was 3. We drew the other.
It's not even that good. The stats are actually that we conceded one more than we scored in 8 of of our 11 games, 2 more in one and three more in another. I suppose we should be grateful for that penalty against Fulham 🙂

Because unless something changes dramatically we are a mid table Championship team. We got fortunate in that we got a management team with ideas that confounded teams and allowed us to operate above our station. That advantage has now gone, it's been nullified due to teams learning how to play against us and the loss of and loss of performance of key players, along with the replacement players who are not quite up to the mark.
We might not concede many because we sit back in numbers but we rarely look like scoring.
Wilder and Knill need a Eureka moment to turn this around, but the odds are it won't happen.
Would love to be wrong.

There’s a good proportion of the league in similar circumstances to be fair. We always play the ‘losing on low money’ card when we are losing, or the winning on low money (in spite of) card when we win. All premier league teams are in receipt of huge sums of money, but when it’s used to prop up the championship by purchasing their average players, then we see that we aren’t as clever as we thought in the market. Watkins and Maupay were there to be had...we took Mousset et al. Wilder needs someone above him to control the set up, as he’s out of his depth, a director of football or someone to that affect.
