Who'd want the job?

Not sure I entirely agree, though I would prefer Keith Hill given a choice between him and Keane. As I said before, I'm not saying Keane is a good candidate because he would be nowhere near my first choice. I dont think that big names should be ruled out though, simply because of our past experiences. Being a household name doesnt necessarily mean you cant do the job well. Has anyone stopped to think that the big names we appointed might not have been good managers???? Their fame is irrelevant.

I'd be interested to hear your issues with the 3 I listed. They have a better record than Keane, younger, attactive style of play and are used to working with lower level players.

Cravat wearers will never be welcome at Bramall Lane...

Whenever the manager-go-round spins round, most candidates are out of work and most will have more than likely been sacked within the last 2 years. Since relegation, we've tried the 'big name with a few distant seasons of success', the 'battles hard, knows what it's all about', the 'up and coming, new but respected in the game', and revisited the 'Blade' route, all have failed for one reason or another.

We are now at our lowest position for 20 years and have completely different requirements even to when MA took over. I honestly don't know which way McCabe will jump this time but it has to be someone who will get the club going as one, get the enthusiasm up and running and as important as anything, get the fans behind the club again. The end of the season showed that the support is there if the powers that be can deliver the right person.

It's also important to not discount the Championship Manager 'take a club from the lower leagues to Europe' attraction.

Big Sam, your time has come...

I once stood in front of the moon with a gaggle of whores I'd hired in Crete. I channeled its awesome power & synced their menstrual cycles.

No real issues, to be honest Hill is the only one of the three I know enough about in managerial terms. He's done an outstanding job at Rochdale and is probably ready for a bigger test now. I've seen Tisdale on the box a few times and obviously I remember Wilder from his playing days but as managers I know very little about them. The latter has never managed beyond the 4th tier as far as I know so I dont see how he has the credentials to manage a club like Sheffield United just yet. He may be able to do a good job but what proof is there that he could take on a job this big?

You say they have a better record than Keane.....highly debatable IMO. Keane has won promotion to the PL, albeit with a big budget and he didnt have to start lower down but he's still done it and its in the record books. He has also never relegated a team, so I would say his managerial record (whilst not outstanding) is intact. Please note I am being deliberately objective here for the sake of this debate.....I AM NOT suggesting Roy Keane should be our next manager. Interesting to compare managers though.

It's time for an outsider. All recent appointments (except Sornob) have had a connection with "The Blades" and Warnock apart it hasn't worked. Too much sentiment, and more than likely on the cheap because of the Blades link. No, someone with no connection this time who has to build his own affinity with us and can't fall back on the sympathy vote, and plays players on merit instead of " Because he's been here ages" (eg Monty).

FWIW I would have kept Micky, but he's gone so time for a clean slate.

can we have someone who is NOT connected in any way with SUFC.. i don't think that it is possible to be a fan and the manager.. you have to have some distance.. saying that i was looking at hill's record at 'dale and it is pretty impressive i have to say

I would suggest if Wilder was appointed it would be to work along with Pembo with an experience No2. But I think he is worth a shout, again he's done a good job with Oxford.

You are which is why are you aren't saying dispite spending millions he left Sunderland all ready for relegation.
He also didn't do a very good job at Ipswich either.

Those managers I've listed have all done good jobs and haven't let anyone down, yet.

I am hoping Keane is a no go. He fell out with Connor Wickham at Ipswich big time. He is their biggest talent and was found on the bench. We have just got rid of someone nearly that stubborn

No I'm not. My preferred choice as things stand, would be either Pembo or SOD. I'm not convinced Roy Keane could sort us out at all.....I think its too big a job for someone who is used to having a big kitty. All I'm saying is that I'm not convinced your suggested candidates are better (Keith Hill aside who I think could be). To say Keane left Sunderland for relegation is a bit of an assumption.....he left them mid-season and there is nothing to prove he couldn't have kept them up. That's just speculation. I agree though that he failed to deliver at Ipswich.

Those managers may have all done good jobs Bob and they might do given the chance here.....but you have to look at the clubs they've managed. Sheffield United is a different animal. Other than doing well with a small club, you can offer no other proof that they are a better candidate than someone like Keane (for example!)

Looking at possible candidates/targets.....I would be ringing Doncaster Rovers up. For our current circumstances SOD ticks far more boxes for me than anyone else - and I'm not his biggest fan by any stretch!

You are, was a reference to being you pbeing objective to continue the debate.

I would have a problem with SOD, I still rate him but he wouldnt come now IMHO.

I'd be cautiously optimistic about Pemberton. He's done well with the academy, and I imagine he'll have a good understanding with most of the players that will constitute the bulk of our squad next season. This is a good opportunity to take a chance on someone unproven.
