Usually in the pub for live stuff and pay no mind to who's playing. And I'd rather use poo for Play-Doh than watch the Football League Show

Funnily enough I actually watch the FLS on mute and listen to an unrelated podcast. Much better that way.

It always surprises me when people haven't heard of players who have actually played against us quite a few times. Hussey scored a brace against us from left back!

That would involve giving a shit about other teams. Occasionally, if someone has a noticeably good game against us I'll have a look at his name and try to remember it but I've usually forgotten the next day. I'm nearly 50 and my brain just doesn't have the capacity for trivia like it used to.
And I'm not a frequent attendee, I don't go to all the games so I miss seeing a lot of performances.

A thorough knowledge of most football league players is reserved, in my opinion, for proper football boffins. Football Manager players, gamblers and just plain old nerdy bastards. No disrespect to any of these folk of course, because when we do sign lads a lot of people haven't heard of they're usually the first to give an opinion and a bit of insight to the rest of us mere mortals.

You're not on yer own, Nuddy. What's in a name, anyway? It's what they do for 90 minutes on a Saturday that counts. Nobody will care that we've signed a lad called Saddam bin Hitler if he bangs in a hat trick against Wednesday.

Football Manager nerd here I'd try not to set too much stall by playing the game though. It does help in terms of names you might not have heard of. I'm told a degree of "scouting" does go into the game development. But whenever I've managed the Blades I've managed to get 20 goals out of Connor Sammon, that in itself tells me the game has a tenuous link to reality. It is what it is, a bit of fun. Been playing versions of it since the Spectrum days.

What's even more surprising is that he scored as many in that one game as he has in his other 207 (!) league appearances.

Is it just me who has never heard of any of the players we ever sign?

Not saying it's necessarily a bad thing but I'd like to know if it's just my own ignorance or a common thing.

Out of the current 20 or so players in the squad the only ones I knew when we signed them were Brayford, Basham and Sharp.

Of the current I knew Brayford, Basham, Sharp, Duffy, Coutts, Woolford, James Wallace, Done and if they are announced today, Fleck and O Connell.

Unknowns like Adams have often done better than knowns like Wallace, Woolford, Sammon, Hammond etc. so I'm not too concerned about that.

I don't mind not knowing about the players when we sign them.

I do get worried when I've watched them for a full season and still have no idea which is their best foot, which is their best position or, basically, what the fuck they're for.

To be homest Daz, they've got to 1) play a blinder or 2) have an absolute mare, for me to bother finding out their name as I don't buy a program and my eyes are not good enough to pick out their name on the shirt these days.

Oh for the days when we played teams and I knew most, if not all, of their players by sight.
