I'm over the moon with the signings. My fear though is that we take some time to gel and don't hit the ground running. Our first 6 or so games are very kind and we really do need to pick up some points. I fear if we have some teething problems and start slowly (like we did in Wilder's first season, and last season - the one in between wasn't too bad) then we could end up needing to take points off the big boys and playing catch up. That is one of the reasons I want Duff to stay. He's a safe option until the others get up to speed on how we play.

Overall though, I'm delighted with the transfer window. We are definitely stronger than we have been for many a year.

The performance against Barnsley suggests that plenty of them are up to speed or very close. Notably Freeman, Robinson, Osborn and Morrison.

difficult to see other forwards better than what we've got at current prices, theres wages aswell. Moise Keane joins Everton for same as McBurnie but not same wages. We've improved the forward lines, defense is the same with Jags for Cranie(Osborn back up) That Amartey could be very usefull. We 've got more goals in the team, but then scoring goals will be a lot more challenging. Expect Callum Robinson to shine from day one, Morrison also a potential gamechanger. Actually glad it's not me picking the starting XI....

yeah, he's the one big question mark I have. I know you can't read too much into his lack of goals for Bournemouth, but for that price, surely there were better and less-risky options. Jay Rodriguez moving to Burnley for 5 mil up front and 5 in a year springs to mind.

Rodriguez doesn’t fit the search criteria model.

Mousset was very highly rated 2 years ago, but he’s not had a run of games at Bournmouth, hardly played apart from 5-10 minutes here and there.
He’s on the way up, has pace (which is what we lack) and is still young and presumably hungry to succeed.
If he improves like Wilder expects then he’ll be better than Rodriguez. Also Moussets re-sale value is more likely to remain fairly high.

He would probably be better this season but Mousset is more of a purchase with one eye on the future.
Also it’s reported that Wilder tried to get Mousset last season, so he’s clearly done his research, tracked Mousets career and rates him.

I was surprised when Anthony Knockaert dropped a division to go to Fulham. I’d probably have stuck a bid in for him. He’s looked outstanding most of the times I’ve seen him. Other than that, I don’t think I’d veer far from what Wilder has done.

I think near enough CWAK have aced the signings and we’ve still got a loan on the bag. They’ve not only brought in very good players, but done so in the silliest of silly seasons. For which they have to be celebrated.

The only two I would have realistically added are Webster & Reece James, but then again, at my idea of £12m to £16m, not for £45m!

You could argue around a football manager style signing like Petagna for a similar price as McB, but it’s swings & roundabouts.

I think a number of the new players have performed better than either of them pre-season. If they think they are automatic selections I suspect they’ll be thinking again by the end of the month. No prisoners taken in the Prem...

I think for what we have spent (fee + wages) on McBurnie we have signed the best striker we could attract.

Hypothetically if every player was interested in joining us I do like the Cutrone move to Wolves for a similar fee. I would have expected him to cost more.

AC Milan’s signing of Rafael Leao and West Ham signing Haller for £12m more than what we paid for McBurnie also seem like good value for money moves

There haven’t really been that many striker transfers in the £10m - £30m range that I think are better value than McBurnie.

It will be interesting to compare McBurnie and Maupay next year if the rumours turn out to be true about Maupay heading to Brighton.

My concern about Mousset is that he is so overweight and out of condition. I personally feel that, irrespective of how he has performed in the past, how many games he's played for Bournemouth or his potential, he is first and foremost a professional footballer.

He is in a privileged position, but with the wealth and lifestyle, comes an absolute responsibility to maintain a fitness level, whereby he can perform to the best of his ability, at all times. Given his condition, Mousset would appear to be lacking in self discipline, personal and professional pride.

I’m very surprised that Chris Wilder even signed him, given the importance he places on character. It definitely smacks of a panic buy, in case his other targets fell through.

BMI scale is irrelevant if a person has a decent amount of muscle mass. I’m a 17 year old lad with a BMI higher than 25 and a fair bit of muscle and certainly aren’t fat!
