Who were your Blades boyhood/girlhood heroes?

Who were your heroes as a youngster at BDTBL?
Although i started watching United as a kid when Currie,Woodward,Colquhoun,Field etc were in their latter years at the lane my 1st hero was Tony Kenworthy .
I used to argue with my mate down the street,a pig,that Tony Kenworthy was harder than Mike Pickering!
Some years later he was living around the corner from one of my mates and used to talk to him regularly,he was at Mansfield then.

My very first was Colin Addison after I watched the YTV highlights of him scoring the winning goal in the FA Cup against Everton in Jan 1970. A month later I wanted to grow long hair like George Best after he scored 6 goals against Northampton but my dad insisted on me having regular haircuts! Woodward became my favourite after he got his teammates to autograph my programme after my first Blade away match at Leicester in March, John Tudor was another favourite too after meeting him regularly outside the players entrance after the home games in the first 5 months of the 1970/71 season (he moved to Newcastle in Jan 1971 which upsetted me). TC then became my favourite in the 1971/72 season

Colin Morris - I remember when we sold him I had a paper round and read it on the back of one of the Stars I was delivering. I was close to tears.

John Burridge - What a loon. Absolute one off.

Most of my childhood supporting days were during the time of us seemingly giving aged pros one last pay day and it was difficult for me to make heroes of people like Peter Withe etc. Although Ken McNaught was legendary. "Ken McNaught, Ken McNaught, the best player Blades ever bought. He can score with his head, he can score with his foot. He's so good he can score with his nuts. . . . . . "

Woody and TC. Had plenty of time for Bill Dearden and Geoff Salmons as well. In fact I was more upset when Salmons left for Stoke than I was when TC left.

My first league game as a kid was his hat-trick at home in 5-0 win against Bolton - he ran them ragged and I thought he was God. It could have been 4 but he missed a penalty.

I also loved the Joe! Joe! Joe! Joe! Joe! chant from the terrace.

Hooked at first proper sight of the Blades and BDTB. Typical drug pusher tactics. A nice cheap high to get you started, a few good hits to give you the impression it will always be that way and then the reality hits.

The whole of the team that got us to the top of the 1st division early 70's (TC just the best)

P10, W8, D2, L 0 (in the first 4 games, we beat 3 of the previous league winners - Leeds, Arsenal and Everton)

next game , 55K inside Old Trafford, 20K (apparently) locked outside and "that" goal from Georgie - great days - John Harris, great manager and nothing could go wrong could it???? Oh dear we build that FUCKING stand..................downhill all the way for a long time after that and coincides with the thread about shit grounds we had to go to in the 70' & 80's

That was my first ever game too, and I have the exact same memory of the "Joe! Joe! Joe!" chant! It was on New Years' Eve 1983, I think. My first real Blades hero was Glenn Cockerill. I was gutted when he was sold, and missed the next two home games in protest.
