Cool, here's some stats that show David McGoldrick scores more than double the amount of goals you would expect from the chances he gets...

Huh? The stats i have provided are not expected save percentage.. They are ACTUAL save percentages vs rest of the keepers in the league.

Well done, I think you just provided the worst counter argument on this forum ever 🤣🤣🤣

My point was that you can "prove" anything with stats if you pick out the right ones and leave out others...

You can't get much clearer than he saves approximately 3/4 of the shots against him can you?

its always good when you are able to find out a new guys maturity. so they can do me a favour to ignore them

That doesn't take into account the difficulty of shots he's faced. But if you want to keep it simple we can... "He'S a bLaDe So hE's rEyT gOoD"

xGA is 14.3 compared to 14 goals against. He's performing broadly in line with where we should expect him to.

The question you should be asking is why he's facing so many shots. Our defensive effort last season saw us face fewer shots than pretty much anyone outside the top 4. This season we're worst.

When the team keep handing the ball over to the opposition as often as we do, it’s obvious that our keeper is going to be put under much more pressure.
Hendo was playing in a forward thinking team. Unfortunately for Ramsdale he isn’t.

he is facing more shots that almost every other keeper in the league, and he is saving the vast majority of them. Which he has to to keep the games as close as they have been.

You don't want to hear it though, you've lost it with an overreaction after a poor game, and you're just doubling down now. Similar to a little kid covering his ears and stomping his feet.

Poor season, not 1 poor game.

The stats do not bear that out in the slightest. Ramsdale is a lightening rod for our fans at the moment and that's quite sad to see: Egan is well below the levels he set last season but I don't think I've seen any criticism of his performances.

Instead of constantly looking at the stats why not try actually watching and analysing his performances? (As for Egan, this is a thread about Ramsdale so that's who I'm commenting on here, I tend to only discuss our goalkeepers as that's the only position that really interests me in depth due to my own experience and experience of family members)

You're not the only one with knowledge of playing in goal. Ramsdale isn't playing to the best of his ability but he's got a malfunctioning defensive unit in front of him. He's a good shotstopper, he's decent one-on-one but he has issues with changing direction and with crosses. He needs to try and break the half-step habit he's got as it's costing him time to get to the corners - there was one great save on Saturday down to his left which he'd not have reached had he taken that usual half step.

Being "decent" (and that's debatable) at 2 aspects of the position and poor at the rest isn't exactly premier league quality is it?

That's your opinion and bears little resemblence to what I posted.

Extremely helpful poll this. Prior to it I thought that perhaps a fifth of our fanbase were batshit crazy when it came to knee-jerk reactions on player performances, but actually it turns out to be almost a third. A quarter voting for Verrips, a complete unknown quantity, might be a jump-the-shark moment in the forum’s history.

Kept us in it against City
Had a bad game against Chelsea

Nothing more nothing less. Put Verrips or Foderingham (wow he is shite) in and things will be no better, only worse. The defence infront of him is currently allover the place.
Wasn't exactly a deciding factor, was it? For nearly everything Rammers could have done better on you have Lowe with a hold my beer moment. But first full league start for him, we might want to just hold off on destroying the lad' Blades career. Even Rolls Royce players like Coutts' have pretty unforgettable starts to their United careers, and for longer periods before Chris and Alan got hold of them.

I'm inclined to file under "off day" for the team.

After what was an excellent goal, we never threatened doing anyway near the same thing. We just seemed to revert back to the defence vs attack game we played vs Man City.

I'll spell this out for you. I said Ramsdale is "a good shotstopper, he's decent one-on-one but he has issues with changing direction and with crosses". You turned that into "Being "decent" (and that's debatable) at 2 aspects of the position and poor at the rest isn't exactly premier league quality is it?". If you can't see that as disingenuous then there's no point debating with you.

In simple terms: I think Ramsdale is an average Premier League keeper, one with a couple of significant flaws but also one with significant potential for improvement. He's in poor form at the moment but that's partly also a symptom of wider issues with the team.

I dont know enough about Verrips and Fodderingham hasnt played in the prem before either so no idea really.

Worrying as Rammers is looking like George Long.

They had the same teacher

The manager would play Lundstram in goal before he played Verrips, who (barring injury to Ramsdale during a match) is destined to become yet another of our many signings who never, or hardly ever, actually plays football for us.

The stats show that as well as facing significantly more shots than last season, he has faced more shots from better goalscoring positions i.e. 'he should score from there' positions.

My opinion is he is a very good goalkeeper and will also get much better, as long as he avoids the numb-nuts who know sweet FA about goalkeeping.

Drop Ramsdale when he’s conceding goals with a solid defence in front of him.

Until that issue is resolved it’s pointless looking elsewhere.
