Now then,

Anyone recognise who this old boy is? Was suggested to be two early photos of Needham but not so sure...

cheers

That's what I thought too, not Needham's hair.

Photos (of the same person?) are from around the 1890's.

Doesn't seem to fit anyone from the old team photos either.

Think that's definitely Needham. Just been comparing it to the 1903 cup winners team shot. Sure it's him.

I'll retract that about Johnson. Just seen a close up shot of Johnson and definitely not him.

Maybe they aren't Blades. I have a lot of Blades related stuff from 1890-1925 and I don't recognise them. The one in the strip was the most convincing likeness to a very early Needham..

What about our George for the second photo? Shown here stood farthest left.

That shirt doesn't look like a Blades shirt of the time. Something not quite right about it. Don't recognise either to be honest. I thought maybe the second photograph might be Peter Boyle but the more I look the more I think not.

First one is definitely a young Kevin Rowland from dexys midnight runners

Looks more like B56 before the makeup

Having another look I wonder if the first one is Walter Bennett. He didn't play in the replay in 1902.
Walter ‘cocky’ Bennett.

Strangely enough, I was reading an article about his untimely demise only the other day. English International but not many post-career options back then...

Horrific.
