Mr Blackwell or Mr Warnock ?

me i'm not sure when Mr Warnock left SUFC i thought it was for the best now i'm not so sure.

Remember 2 semi-finals and play off final in one season !

then again we won nowt !

Hindsight is also key.

How many people really wanted Warnock to go throughout most of his reign?

How many people used to say that the brains behind the initial success was Blackwell's tactical input?

How times change :)

maybe warnock actually knew how to get us to play football

tenerife blade

Looking at both managers track records and they both have amongst the best ever wins/draws/lost ratios in the Clubs history.

Well, they both started their stewardship of the Blades by staving off relegation, so that's 1-1 so far.

Everyone was underwhelmed by both of their appointments, so that's 2-2.

Both have been roundly condemned through their control of on-field matters as tactically inept, so that's 3-3.

Both were known as 'long ball merchants', so that's 4-4.

All a bit tight for me really!

I would also like to throw into that mix Sir Dave Bassett and ask who was best?
To be fair though I go by the old proverb myself, The king is dead- long live the king. So no matter how good a predesessor was, just get behind the current manager! Bassett, Warnock & Blackwell have all been great for this club.

aye but not as good as John Harris..........

Blackwell is the best we currently have, Warnock gave us some great times, Bassett was a legend in my opinion, the one comon theme though is that they might all be described as 'second tier' managers, winning nothing to date of any great significance like a cup final or a premiership title. I dont think the old fourth division title really counts as a major, whilst accepting you can only be the best in the league you are in.

Let's hope they don't make it 5-5 by both managing to get us to a play-off final and losing :(

Don't want to go through that again, Wolves was gutting as the expectation was so high, but for me Palace was far worse. My oldest went with me as a young lad experiencing Wembley for the first time, his reaction after that last minute goal was never to be forgotten by both of us. He couldn't face the Wolves game after that and even now is in two minds about going this year if we make it!

I was thinking that... but I reckon any chance to go to Wembley to see United is one not to be missed... because it might never happen again for a long while!

....as for the best manager! Well in the modern era it would have to be John Harris as he finished highest consistently, although the highest ever finish would be down to Ken Furphy!

Completely agree. I don't even remember that much about the Wolves game but i do remember plenty about the build up around Cardiff (and brizzle the night before the game).

It's got to be our turn this time :)

We bloody hope so!

If we do get there... I don't want to end up in tears again. Streaks the make-up something rotten.

Saying that though... I did have a little blub in The Crown when Reading knocked the stuffing out of Leeds for us and we were promoted by default. So I think there'd be tears either way! :D
