Who do we want then, Swindon or MK Dons?

We should focus on the game in hand, which is Oldham. We shouldn't even mention the phrase "Play Offs" - let alone the word "Wembley".

I see some people are already making travel plans for the Orient game. We could be in 8th place by then, our promotion dreams in shatters. Let's just concentrate on the task in hand - Oldham away. All this talk of that London, be it Orient or Wem...(oops nearly said it) is for another day.

“The only thing that stands between you and your dream is the will to try and the belief that it is actually possible.”

We have to cement our place in the playoffs then see who we'll be playing if or when we get there. Admittedly, if we chuck our playoff position away it would be a major fuck up.

Another thing i don't get is the worry about Mk plastics. I know they've beaten us twice but in all the three games we've played them we've been the best team overall performance wise imo and that's when we've been out of form and without any continuity. We are playing a lot better now and i really wouldn't fear playing them at all if that time comes and neither would Karl Robinson like to play us listening to his post match interviews against us.

whos to say they both wont be down in confidence after missing out on autos , I hope they get closer then fail , but neither worries me .
results mean little , we beat palace home and away and lost in final
mk dons habe beaten us 1-0 twice but we won there in cup and this is second cup game
swindon beat us 5-2 but we turned it round to beat them last meeting ,
theres just no point trying to call it , its wide open

home advantage first or second again its about 50 50 in all time play off history of getting through , so no
real advantage or disadvantage

Why is everyone talking about the Play Offs? Don't you realise that we're not allowed to speculate on potential opponents until we're there? Otherwise, we''ll be seen as "arrogant" and it will "jinx us"

Yup sounding more and more like deluded pig fans.

Talking of which (not worth starting a new thread), there was a delusional on Football Heaven last night. The mug has had a seat in the Meccanoland south stand for donkeys years and has 'heard a rumour that spread all around' at their latest failure v. Huddersfield on monday.

Apparently, when they get to the 'promised land', a lot of seats (including his) will be taken for corporate use and he's very, very not happy.

Words fail.

I have a feeling we will play Swindon in the semi-final with MKD to follow in the final.

We can turn Swindon over and just about every football fan in England will be behind us for the win against MKD at Wembley.

Trouble is I am on holiday in France, playing chess on the weekend of the final so I can assure you we will win because I can not be there.

Which is a bit of a bummer, but winning is more important.

HH

There will be some fuck up where we are 3-2 up going into 120th minute. They will get a penalty and the ref will feck up by giving us an direct free kick for approaching. We will then all be forced to come back two days later to see them score the retake and then lose 10-9 on penalties. We will then send a shuttle up to Mars to fetching the fecking ball.

Even though I rate MK highly, but we usually do beat them, so i hope for MK.

We have played MK Dons 9 times since relegation to this division in 2011. We have won 3, drawn 1, lost 5. Hardly inspiring. Those games are often very tight as well. Only 2 of those games resulted in a team scoring more than 1 goal, although it was United both times. The other 7 games all finished 1-0 or 0-0.

I think despite the fact we took a 5-2 shellacking at Swindon this season, their record is abysmal at Bramall Lane (http://thewashbag.com/2013/12/13/stat-pack-sheffield-united-vs-swindon-town/ - we have scored 2 or more goals in 13 out of 15 visits) and they seem the team least in form of all the play-off contenders, so they are preferable opponents.

If the other semi is Chesterfield vs MK Dons, those teams have already played each other 4 times this season, with 3 victories for Chesterfield.

Although these facts don't mean much when it comes to the next game, I can just imagine a semi vs MK Dons being very cagey and nervous. I'd rather take our chances against a more open Swindon Town.

I think it's safe to say, only your ass could take this level of double penetration.

A bit too early for acid isn't it Sheff?

To be fair, as the last away game of the season, long term planning for a weekend trip isn't at all unusual be we automatic, play off or obscurity bound.
The football Gods won't be sharpening their knives for this.

baby brain,no sleep at a mixture of shit stirring and it all comes out. Apologies
Ah, we've all been there.
I once fell over a radiator that was attached to the wall, when I was afflicted by sleep deprecation. Little toe bent all the way backwards and all I could do was laugh hysterically at my circumstance.

We really owe MK Dons big time. They always get the luck and rub of the green against us.
November 2012 - they won with a 90th minute penalty
August 2013 - they won with an 87th minute goal
December 2014 - they won with an 88th minute goal
These were all games in which we probably had the better of it but they got late winners against the run of play.

Plus, we had to play them the day after Ched Evans went to prison and the team was in shock and disarray, so they got lucky again and effectively ended our automatic promotion hopes.

I would prefer to get them, take about 10,000 to the first leg and feckin batter 'em.

I may have missed the home win over Swindon, but in the away game they were the best team I've seen all season. They went through our defence like a hot knife through butter (not the best defence in the league by any stretch but they still made it look amazingly easy), and even though they're on a slide I'd fully expect them to up their game again in he play-offs. I assume all their loanees will still be available? Truth is I'm as optimistic as they come, and I still see us struggling to beat MK Dons and Swindon over 3 games (semis and final). I just know we'll get to Wembley and just pray it's not the same old story.

I hope we pack out the lane for the play-offs this year and give us an almighty push.

The one thing I'm holding onto is that we scored 3 at Wembley last time out, and hopefully that will be in our minds rather than the hoodoo that's been with us every other time!

It'll be Swindon - MKD are proving far too strong for them and will be the team finishing just behind Preston, who will be second.
Swindon are very poor defensively - watched their game last night and they give the ball away at the back constantly. As they did vs MKD at weekend
Small squad with a cluster of loanees and the marathon of the 46 game season is getting on top of them now.
Two games in hand at this stage is as much of a hindrance than an advantage as they need to play more games in fewer dates so fatigue will be a big factor.
Just lost 3-0 at home to MKD and 3-0 away to BC so their confidence will have taken a massive blow - their auto dream shattered over the last couple of days.
Can see us getting into 4th place if we maintain this decent run and them slipping to 5th which will mean us getting home advantage for second leg of semi

It's all shaping up to be a Blades MKD POF -

Hope your right Kenilworth, Swindon who put 5 past us at their place, Blades seemingly struggling to keep a clean sheet every game and erratic/poor home form, afraid I'm not as confident, I know they've struggled a bit lately but are still in the top 4.

aside from Preston fans, I don't think there is a fan base that has lower expectations regarding play offs than ours. In my head I've already written off our chances, the play offs just feel like a few extra games at the end of the season that we won't win - and I consider myself to be a glass half full type of blade!!

Its such a strange feeling, I obviously know we could go up, but there isn't a single part of me that's thinks we will. I've even planned my yearly holiday back to England around the play off final date, but don't think for a second that we'll get there/or win if we do due to our terrible record in them.

I daydream about how it would feel to actually win a play off final at wembley. I think all blades there would just stand in utter shock, cry their eyes out with sheer joy or manage the first ever pitch invasion at the new wembley!

I feel the same as you Borbokis....just have that feeling that we won't do it.....I guess that's a result of years of failure and disappointment......I also don't think we have our team sorted out yet and we are nearly at the end of the season! The defence is porous and I worry about how Swindon tore through us at their place and how we could not break MK down in 2 games.....I am ready for another season in L1

I don't think we won't do it for any of those rational reasons! I just don't think we'll do it because we're terrible in the play offs. Even if we had an amazing defense we'd still find a way of losing.

That said, I'll still be there if we do make it, just wondering how it might feel to actually win one of those games!

We will go fucking mental and it will be the biggest party this country has ever seen:D and then we will wake up:)
