Who’s the worst of the worst?

Amazed nobody has mentioned Steve "Queenie" Thompson.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a slower player. I remember one away game at Southend, I think, where he scored an own goal. The whole crowd could see that the ball would hit him and go in, but he just couldn’t move fast enough to get out of the way. Genuine slow motion.

Didn't we sign someone on loan from Hull for the final few games of that season, and he did ok? I don't know if ST was injured or Bassett saw the light but like the Tracey decision, sentiment never got in Bassett's way, thank goodness. The Tracey one so near the finish line over Benstead was genius.

Not many midfielders mentioned, so far...

Hammond and Cuvelier must be close to forcing into the worst ever first 11

John Moore?

Nyron Nosworthy was the worst for me. Everytime he played you knew we wouldn't keep a clean sheet and he'd be responsible. He was shockingly bad but got picked week in, week out. Robinson doesn't make mistakes every single game, just most. Nosworthy was guaranteed every game.

Yes thanks, Moore, he did ok and actually hoped we'd sign him, fortunately we got in Morris and Hill though.

Do you mean Colin Hill? Signed him in Tier1 to play alongside Gayle? I though he was OK....

Hill was signed as a right back (displacing some lad called Wilder) in the second tier in 1989. After we got promoted and Stancliffe was deemed to be too old, Hill converted to centre back, playing mostly alongside Paul Beesley*. We signed Gayle the following season (1991).

*Colin Hill and Mark Morris competed for the place at the start of the season, but our remarkable transformation coincided with Hill staying in the team permanently.

Ladies and Gentlemen I give you……..

Ian Hamilton

Jonathan Hunt

Absolute shite the pair of them🤣

Bit harsh. Cuvelier wasn't a poor player, he had a lot of injuries and was dropped by Clough because he was a flair player and didn't fit in. Probably wore a cap once. Hammond was obviously crap though.

Marcus Williams anyone? Although not really his fault that he was a left back playing in a team with Matt Hill who was also a left back, so ended up in left midfield when he clearly wasn't a midfielder.

I wasn't a big fan of Mark Morris and didn't we spend "big" money on him at that time. 175k springs to mind, and at a time when we couldn't afford the out of date aisle at Aldi!

Steve Faulkner.

That’s funny.

When it comes to defenders dropping absolute clangers again and again and again

Mceverly? Robinson? Ampadu? Nosworthy? Andy Taylor was pretty rancid.

Robinson is the worst by a country mile, one of those players where it sickens me to see them in a Blades shirt and the people that stick up for them seriously wind me up.

‘But he’s trying his best’
1. Debatable
2. Don’t care either way, especially when one considers the moneys he’s on to play a game for a living.

Even amidst the excellent team performance in the first half at Preston he still did one of his bomb scare backpasses that luckily foderingham was ready for.

Can’t think of any one signing that more encapsulates the collapse from the most unbelievably exciting season I’ve ever seen in 30 odd years to the absolute pits we’re currently witnessing. He was one of our worst players when we were in the relegation zone this season ffs.

One of the worst signings in my lifetime. Horrific
Concentration is his weakness, he's liable to a big error every game.
Technically he's good, comfortable on the ball and can pass.
You don't come through Liverpools academy without ability.
As we saw at Fulham, when he's on it, he is a really good player.

andy barnsley !!!!

Paul Beesley v Sunderland 1990
I’d forgotten about that. I was having a few pints of pre-match Tetleys in the Broomhill Tav (by the way for you young uns Tetleys used to be a right pint) and it was pissing it down and we debated do we wander down to the lane and get soaked or do we stay here supping mother’s milk and watch Grandstand on the pub tele. Young idiots that we were we watched Bees get two assists, unfortunately Gabbiadini scored both (Silent to put me right on this as the memory does play tricks)

Some corkers on here. Nosworthy, Andy ******** Barnsley, MxEverley, however, no-one has yet mentioned the outright winner -

JOHN FLOOD

Terrible. Not one redeeming quality, crap at everything.

Tebily didn't go from us to Birmingham, he went to Celtic.

He signed for Birmingham after that.
Tebily was fine with us. Bought for 350k. Sold not long after for 1.3m. I wish I made investments like that!

He only got the bombscare thing at Celtic.

John Moore was more of a forward player. I used to watch him in the reserves; not specifically him, but he featured regularly. He was very physically imposing and had really long thick hair, to the point me and my Dad nicknamed him Wild Man of Borneo, in the absence of getting a team sheet. Though he had cut his hair by the time he made his debut at the end of the season, rather disappointingly.

Which is a bit ironic as later he went on to represent Hong Kong internationally, which isn't all that far from Borneo, relatively speaking! He was also born in a place called Stanley in County Durham which also ironically is the name of one of the main places in Hong Kong where you find Stanley Market and where he lived for 10 years; Hong Kong that is, not the market!

He returned to UK in 2003 and back to Durham. Though he didn't score many goals in his career, I think he could have been useful as a central midfielder due to his presence, especially when later Simon Webster, who was playing midfield but was by trade a centre back, got injured. Though Sir Bob didn't do too bad as his replacement!

Moore had a successful career in Hong Kong. He was sent off for fighting in a World Cup qualifier v Palestine in 2001 on his international debut.

What this post clearly demonstrates that over the years we have had to endure some utter bo***cks. And rather a lot of it. This is a huge list spanning several managers and many decades.
