Who’s actually in attendance?

The "official" attendance is tickets sold. For H&S, the club knows the exact actual number of actual bums on seats attendance and gets these figures in real time from the moment the gates open. It's rare both figures are the same.
This is correct. I've been in the control room at Derby on match days. Seen published attendances of 27-28,000, usually about 23,500 actually in the ground. Actual attendance is updated every second.

when we sold games out, did the reported attendance reflect that? That might help with the answer to #1

Every club does it these days…..it’s tickets sold….not actual attendance.

I remember Arsenal a few years ago, their ground was always half full but the official gate was always 60K. I also remember the season Sunderland were relegated, the ground wasn’t even a quarter full and even their fans used to laugh as the gate was always given as over 30K.
United were one of the last 2 teams in the top 2 divisions to switch from reporting actual attendance to reporting paid attendance i.e. tickets sold. The other was Norwich. This happened in the early 2000's.

I wonder when turnstile staff stopped pocketing money….. I bet in today’s money millions were lost up and down the country due to turnstile staff on the take.

And lost revenue from popping the kids over the turnstile. At least with modern technology the club makes sure it can exploit the kids fan base rather than attract and nurture their support. I have to pay £22 for a 4 year old int family stand each game I take my grandson, I’ll say it again £22 FOR A 4 YEAR OLD KID

I’ve not got kids so didn’t realise that prices had got that high, absolutely scandalous pricing that

A kids season ticket is only about £80: might be a better option even if only used a few times a season.

Yeh, at start of season I didn’t think he would be ready so doing match by match. Hoping there’s a deal for 1/2 season ticket in next few weeks
