A couple of questions for anyone who knows or cares?

1. do Sheffield United count paid ticket holders who haven’t turned up?
2. who do we actually count, the word attendance literally means being there !! Do the 22 men on the pitch count ? And if not then who does, bellboys? Gary Sinclair? Stewards? Catering staff?

Do you know a single typo can ruin a thread……

Isn't it just the number of tickets "sold" (paid and complimentary) regardless of whether they attend or not..?

the attendance count has for H and S reasons be exact,, in theory
part of football ground safety rules

clubs cant get a safety certificate if they cant show they can do an accurate count

It is possible to know how many have entered the ground as well as counting those who have paid but not attended.

I know quite a few who have been missing games. These are people who have had season tickets since time began. Not necessarily every week, but a few I know have just been prioritising other stuff over the football. I'm guessing a lot of it is to do with the dire football we have largely had to endure, but maybe also post-lockdown, it's given people a different perspective on life?

The "official" attendance is tickets sold. For H&S, the club knows the exact actual number of actual bums on seats attendance and gets these figures in real time from the moment the gates open. It's rare both figures are the same.

Is it really a big deal? Pigs have been doing it for years...

Every club does it these days…..it’s tickets sold….not actual attendance.

I remember Arsenal a few years ago, their ground was always half full but the official gate was always 60K. I also remember the season Sunderland were relegated, the ground wasn’t even a quarter full and even their fans used to laugh as the gate was always given as over 30K.

I must admit I watched Sunday's game on TV what with the busses being on strike cutting my options and the weather forecast, my car is shit in the snow. The last game I attended in snow the bus only took me so far home so I had to walk the rest which proper fooked me up, never again I said at the time. I think it was a wise choice Sunday.

So if there is a fire drill we can stand on Shoreham st and do a head count and tally it against the attendance?

So , if we have approx 21k ST holders , and usually record gates of 28k , then approx 3k of the 7k who normally buy a match ticket didn't bother for Sunday , resulting in a 25k recorded gate.

The club obviously knows the ACTUAL figure but , for its own reasons , refrains from publishing it.

But with many ST holders not attending (you could see big gaps in areas which are definitely occupied by ST holders) the actual number in the ground was way less than 25k.

No shame in STs choosing safety & warmth above a chilly afternoon sitting in the cold.

And in my case , no way I'm driving over the hills from Manchester when I could easily get stranded.

When was the last fire drill ?
Talking of fires. When the Bradford fire happened they contacted every single person who attended to ensure everyone was accounted for. Took around 3 months I Believe

Awful but neccesary work
