Lot of common sense there.
It was an underwhelming interview from Wilder who sounded a bit resigned to having little room for manoeuvre.
When we're 7th in the league and struggling to sign a player from Southend, he's right to be frustrated.
But are we struggling to sign a player from Southend or is our valuation of him less than Southend's and, therefore, we're simply refusing to pay more?

It's public knowledge we offered £750k so paying £250k 'over the odds' to maintain a promotion challenges doesn't exactly seem excessive largesse.

This for the midfield, where have already lost Coutts to injury, Brook(e)s to Galanduar-sunburn-flu and Carruthers to crapness.

GERRIMIN
Look at it a slightly different way. IF we've already bid £750k (our valuation of him), why on earth would we pay 33% more than our valuation unless we were absolutely desperate for this specific player? Anyone who is willing to pay a third more than their valuation for anthing on which they have a choice should not be in business - in fact they should be in some form of care home.

Given we tried to sign him in the summer, it's fair to say our pursuit of Southend's finest hasn't run particularly smoothly.

But is that because they think we are desperate so have bumped up the price and we think he's not worth what they want, rather than us simply not being able to afford him or not being an attractive enough proposition for him? Only those involved in the negotiations actually know that.

It is the 4th of January, try a little patience, our next league game is 8 days away

I think asking Blades fans to be patient is fair enough until the end of January but the signs look bad, and lets remember that we've spent 6 years in League One which was totally unavoidable, as was going down in the first place; we've got back up solely because we appointed a great manager. Credit there to McCabe there. However, now we're back up he needs more help than he's getting, if you think a team that cost us 3 million pounds is good enough backing then you expect Wilder to be able to walk on water. Yes money isn't everything but he needs backing with some decent players now which at this level does cost more money than it appears we're willing to back him with, and as for patience, I've supported United for 29 years and seen it over and over again that managers here are let down, either by poor backing or player sales and bad decisions.

Its time the board realised we've got a genuine chance of promotion here and can establish ourselves as a Premier League club like so many clubs smaller than us have done. If that's asking for patience then screw that quite frankly, we've spent 1 season in the top flight since 1994, which is underachievement of the highest order.

So you are not prepared to be patient

They were evil fuckers them.

Donny fans in general see him as a good player, and are pretty upset that they could be losing a real midfield goalscorer.

He's been played in more of a holding position, which isn't really his game, but I can see him really flourishing in our system when called upon.

We're a much better side than Donny, and I reckon he could step up a level with us. He won't start, but he's certainly a better option than Carruthers and much more of a threat for later in the game to replace a tiring Duffy.

Why do you think that? You’re guessing, aren’t you?
Of course I'm guessing as he doesn't play there, I remember him having the odd game or few minutes under Adkins at rb/rwb, but he has the engine and better ball control for that position then bash does, bash is much better and the team is much better with him at rcb, so if it negates having to move him out of there either to cm or rwb it's a bonus.

Most likely it's because Wilder isn't being given much support and has to try to go for relative bargain basement signings - and he clearly rates Leonard as more than half decent.
That leaves him a bit hamstrung in the transfer window.

Till the end of January but if Wilder isn't backed, and all the signs are that he won't be, then I'll be disappointed but I've seen it all before. My view isn't garbage Fred, its just different to yours.

May be most likely to you PW but, as I said, only those involved know so we can only surmise depending on which our preferred argument is.

You’ve seen him about as often as I have then?

He did play at right wing-back under Adkins as you say. He was rubbish.

When have you seen evidence of his ‘engine’ and ball-control? You’re making it up as you go along, aren’t you?

You have yet to show the remotest evidence that you recognise what’s ‘most likely’. Given that you are clearly driven by an agenda, your analysis of these matters is ‘most likely’ flawed.

I think you are most likely to be correct

I think you are most likely to be correct

You've done it know.

Pinchy already had supreme self belief but now that someone has actually agreed for once with him, we'll never hear the last of it.

This could be the start of a 'Monty-traffic cone' avalanche of shite and if so, I blame you entirely.

I like the boy Pinch it's just that I don't understand his reaction to David Bassett,

What would equate to Wilder 'being backed' in your opinion?

Difficult to answer but given where we're at in the league, the size of the club etc etc 3-5 million on transfers. Is that really excessive? That would buy two or three quality players.

Certainly more than Leonard around 700,000 and three loans!

Well I feel you are most likely going to be very disappointed come 1st February

What if Wilder only wants Leonard and 3 loans? Has he said he wants more than that?

Who does Wilder want for 3-5 million? Where is this money coming from?

I agree with Pinchy on Monty. He was a player epitomising the most grotesque, neanderthal style of football ever.

Just like Muckanettles Morgs, ol' Big Nose and Dinosaur Dave.

Kick it Long, Kick it Hard; Kick it High. Only in S2.

True Fred and like in the late 80's early 90's we'll have to hope Wilder can sign players that are gems for not very much or loan players who can hit the ground running who are likely to be young pros like CCV, who has done well but also makes mistakes that have cost us. Wilder's done it many times before but I'd rather see him given a greater chance this time.
