Mine was in the old 4th Division aged 4 years old and we beat Northampton Town 7-3.

My grandad took me along and the only memory i have got is how big it the Lane was, and thinking back it is one of my first memories.

27 years later and i'm still a Lane regular

1958 v Middlesborough including the legend Brian Clough at the Lane The Blades won 4-0 My dad told me he had taken me first to BDTBL in 1955 but I have no recollection of that!

i cant remember my last united match never mind the first

Probably early 60's. Can't remember what game though. Earliest game I remember was when we played Northampton at the lane. I remember Mick Jones barging their goalie who was called Coe I think. The barge knocked Coe still holding the ball into the net. Ref gave a goal!
Weirdest goal I've ever seen.

I have that game on DVD! The commentators dont bat an eylash when the goal is given, must have been part and parcel of the game back then.

It was a 2-2 draw on New Years Day 1966.

Aston Villa FA Cup 4th Round at the Lane in 1965 4 lost 2-0. I don't remember booing though.

Remember that night well. It was six nil at half time, I'm sure there were some boos after the second half performance - some things never change.

You obviously don't remember it that well, it was 3-0 at HT :-) Edwards 2 and MacPhail scoring

We were 6-0 up with about 25 mins to go (Hatton 2 and Neville) and, as Tony Pritchett said in the Star the following day, double figures didn't look out of the question. However, Northampton rallied a bit and got 2 back. Edwards completed his hat trick with a couple of mins to go and Northampton rounded it off with an injury time pen.

August 1978 Liverpool League Cup. I'll let Darren tell you all about it because he'll know better than me.....

Thanks Darren.

Having been corrected by you I now feel like I've finally arrived*.

*This isn't a euphemism by the way.

I've never seen the Blades yet except on telly.............. but i'm savin up. ;)

16th Nov 1985 - Blades 3-3 Blackburn

The day of the Wigley Wonder Goal

My mum was worried about hooliganism so insisted that instead of wearing my red and white hat and scarf, i wear my blue and yellow Ecclesall Jnrs hat and scarf.

Blackburn played in Blue and Yellow that day. Thanks mum!!!

Nice, thats mums for you. My mate at work was telling me the other day about when he took his lad to a sports store many year ago to buy him his first Sunderland kit (he is a mackem before you ask). Anyway they didn't have any Sunderland kits in stock, and his lad (who was only a nipper) took a shine to the Newcastle kit instead cos of the colours or summat. Anyway his missus couldn't understand why Dave refused to buy him the Newcastle kit instead. As I said you gotta love mums.

Also my first Blades game was against Port Vale (I think) in 1989, I was 12 and my grandad took me. It was a midweek night match is all I remember. I'd need to dig the programme out to check the details, yes I've still got it. My dad wasn't too bothered with footy hence me being a late supporter and my grandad introducing me to BDTBL.

Very early 70s, I think 1971 but might have been 1970. Anyway it was Burnley at the Lane, not sure of the score but I think we lost! Just remember sitting/squatting on the old white fence at the front of the old John St terrace and gawping in awe and wonder at the kop for most of the game! :D

14 March 1981

Blades 3 - 2 Charlton.

Bramall Lane upper - instantly hooked but dad didn't take me again until next term in 4th and not really understanding what happened v Walsall, I'm sure I thought life as Blade was fantastic. It still is but obviously copmes with alot of fairly serious heartache.

28th Feb 1989. It was a top of the table clash and ended up in a 0-0 draw.

We didn't play Burnley at the Lane between 1967 and 1973, so I reckon this must have been the opening game of the 73-4 season on 25th August when we lost 2-0.

September 97', Birmingham City at home, 0-0 draw.

1978 against god knows who. I remember being in BL upper tier and lot's of skinheads. I thought it was Millwall but I've been reliably informed by Silent and Darren that we didn't even play them in 78 at BDTBL. An over enthusiastic mutha cleaning out the programmes from my old bedroom put paid to finding out who it was :(

Watford at the lane won 4-1 in 1989-90 season i had my first season ticket the following season.

Yes we did! 18/3/78. We won 5-2 Campbell 2, Woodward, Speight and Stainrod scored.

Darren, thanks mate! I really appreciate it! Don't know why I thought you said we didn't. Thanks to a shocking memory, the only way I remember older or mundane matches is notes on the back of tickets or programmes...

Maybe Darren will be able to help me out also.

I think my first game was Jimmy Hagan's testimonial. 1958, I think.

Was it as late as that?
I certainly saw Joe Shaw and Keith Kettleborough. Think they finished in 1966 and 65 respectively. So it must have been 65 when I first went.
