Slight variation on the theme and not been done before.

Mine was the infamous 'Boxing Day Massacre' in 1979. My first Sheffield derby and first trip to Hillsborough. It still stands out as my worst ever United experience. Walsall and Chelsea and Wigan and the Wembley games were bad, very bad but not quite as bad as that. Firstly I was a kid and the anticipation had been unrivalled and the result completely unexpected and school was the pits after that. A couple of memories associated with it were going down to Bramall Lane after school one winter's night with a friend and my dad to queue up to buy the tickets and getting up very early on Boxing Day to set off to walk to Hillsborough with my dad who wasn't a football fan but took me (it was a morning KO 11am i think? and no public transport). I was wearing a United scarf and we got a lift off a passing Wednesday fan and his son on Abbeydale Road not long after leaving home. Hence we were in the ground at opening so I bagged a prime view at the front of that elevated corner of the Leppings Lane End. :-( I don't think I ever got over it!

November 17th 1991 when we did them 2-0 at our place.

I remember it was cold and the ground was packed. The Pigs were big favourites, I think they were third in the table and wed only won a couple of games so far that season. All the same, I remember us giving a good account of ourselves.

The goals were both brilliant. A clearence from a Pigs corner in front of the Bramall Lane end in the first half dropped for both Warhurst and Sheridan who clattered each other. The loose ball was picked up by, I think, Gannon* who knocked it into the path of Bryson*. He bore down on Woods and shot in front of the Kop but it was palmed to the feet of the onrushing Dane Whitehouse who blasted it home.

Second half, second goal. A corner to us dropped, bobbled about, fell to Deane who spun and scuffed a shot through the legs of Chris Woods. Awesome stuff.

We picked up after that and went on to have a great second half of the season, another highlight for me being a 2-0 win over Liverpool at the Lane with an outstanding performance by Mel Rees.

* These names are probably totally wrong.

Same one for me, although as I was so young the only thing I remember was how cold I was and asking my dad what the big deal was, it was just another match.

I've grown up since then :-)

It was my first one, and if possible a worse experience than yours. I was sat in the North stand (I think it is, the one opposite the tunnel etc) with all these piggies. Me and my dad couldn't get tickets and a friend said he'd get some, only he didn't tell us it was with him and his piggies mates. We were going really well at the time and they were struggling a bit. They were shitting themselves about the game and we were a little bit too cocky. After every goal, they gave us the big one, and you're right Camden school was hell for the rest of that season. It scarred me for life, never got over it and never will until we stick it to them in a similar way :(

Having said that Bobby Davison did help with the recovery process a few years later :D

Mine was 6th round FA Cup game in about 1959 at Bramall Lane, which I believe we lost 2-0.

To accommodate a massive crowd a temporary stand was built onto the cricket pitch. I unfortately got tickets for Section A, which was right next to this temporary stand, Bramall Lane end, and so I could only see just over half the pitch and I was a long way away as well.

Still despite the result and the view, I loved every minute. I started to go to Bramall Lane regularly fromthen on.

That was mine too - I think it's when I went from being in love with the blades to being obsessed by them.

Watching Woods' face as the ball went through his legs for the 2nd was just bliss.

Dane Whitehouse & Brian Deane (Through Wood's legs) 1991-92 season
What a great game :)

Yeah that was mine too! I'll never forget the first goal... Paul Warhurst ran head first into some other pig (John Sheridan I think)... the ball broke free, Ian Bryson ran the length of the pitch, Chris Woods saved the shot and Whitehouse tapped in the rebound. Second half, Deano nutmegged Woods ("England's no. 1" at the time) right in front of the gathered Piglets.

Happy days!

My first was the infamous 'Acid Match', it was in 1968 but cant remember the date. I'm not sure but seem to remember it was in the County Cup

I have photo's from the match.
I'm sure I scanned them at one point, but not sure if they are still about on a HDD

November 91 for me too. Dane standing in front of the Kop after scoring, looking like he was going to explode with happiness! One of my best experiences as a Blades fan.

Mine was the 2-3 defeat at the Sty in the late unlamented Zenith Data Systems Cup.

I was about 3ft away from him for that.
as I said before I have pictures to prove it.
I'll post them if i can find them :)

Same for me, 89 was it?

Sir Bob Booker celebrated his goal by jumping on the infamous Leppings Lane fences if memory serves. Sheridan wonder goal won it in extra time for them.

remember mine like it was yesterday

it was the zenith data systems cup (the first time we had played them in years ) i remember being stood on their kop with my dad and brother and when we scored to make it 1-1 i jumped unable to control my emotions
luckily for me we were surrounded by about at least another 50 blades who all joined in my celebrations to my great relief

we lost the game 3-2 but the next 2 times i went back to hillsborough i saw us win both times once sat on the lep and once sat on their stand surrounded by another 2000 blades wit all their fans offering us out al match ]

i loved it and cant wait till the 18th when we shove strapons vision back up his fat parsons x arse

Losing 2-1 to two Ekoku goals in the League Cup. And our car got broken into!

It would have been the home draw the season we were relegated from the Premiership (1-1?) but i was violently sick in the pub before the match and my Dad took me home before rushing back off to the Lane.

The win took us clear of Wednesday to sit at the top of the old 2nd. division. Happy days!

Jammy sod!

Wednesday fans all always banging on about Boxing Day but that result is just a relevant to the one you posted, both happening well before I was born.

>Mine was the infamous 'Boxing Day Massacre' in 1979
yeah me too.. i still have the ticket.. framed.. i'm not a masochist.. its because 'we will fight for ever more because of boxing day' and all that..
makes me laugh when the wendys sing that.. from a historical perspective they can't actually sing it 'cos nothing happened to them on boxing day to sing about.. fools.

I agree. I can't understand why you'd need to fight forever more if you've won.

Cant remember my first one but I think my favorite game of all time was the derby at the sty in the early 90's when we did the double over them. I've never seen or heard an atmosphere like it since. I still have visions of the giant flags, flairs, streamers. bog rolls, confetti, etc. It was absolutely amazing.

BDM '79 - Worst match experience ever.

Sat inthe North stand with about 10 of our family, surrounded by Pigs. Like others have said, school was utter hell for the rest of the year. I went to King Ted's and that was predominently a piggy palace so that was a nightmare.
Worst of all it took us many, many years to be in a position to play them in a proper competitive match that had some meaning. The '91-'92 double season was so, so sweet. The match at the Sty was one of the best in my memory. Like others have stated, the singing, the flags, the flares, the atmosphere, the rain on a night match and the goals. Bobby Davison has a special place in all Blades hearts who went to that game.

Only positive I can think of from the scars associated with the BDM is that it takes the edge off relegation and play off final defeats when they happen. However, I still need to feel purged and would love to see us trounce the porcine by five or six. Having stated that I don't live in Sheffield so half the fun might be lost.

Lucky, lucky man Bradders :)

Is there a video of that? The club should make a compilation of great victories over the unclean!

I can't think of any United wins over Wednesday on video before the 91 win. I think I am right in saying that the firs time a Sheffield derby was featured in highlights on Match of the Day or the ITV football programme was the 1-1 draw at the Lane in 1980. That being the case, unless there is any old newsreel footage, a "great derby wins" DVD would only have 6 games on it!

1991 2-0
1992 3-1
2001 2-1
2003 3-1
2005 1-0
2006 2-1
