Going into the last week before the transfer window shuts, and presuming Tanganga deal is done: If we can only improve one position, whats the priority?

Hoping Soumaré can do DCM well, but surely we can't put all our eggs in this basket. Sadly all our eggs are in a Campbell basket up front too.
If we get the rumoured defenders in we need another iregobonaum type and then target someone who can play across the front three ,someone like Jayden danns

Unless we change the system there's a need for wingers (plural), for sure. Because right now there's only Barrie and Brooks and Brooks doesn't seem to be in great form right now.

We need to Cannon Cannon.

Loan One.

And get at least 2 preferably 3 out and out CFs in the building.

Tall order !!

We need to change formation to 3-5-2
Cooper
Godfrey bindon Robinson
Burrows peck soumre ohare barry
Campbell hamer
Swap Robinson with tanganga
Have the likes of Zatterstrom, brooks, seriki, ukaki , cannon, marsh on the bench, add 2 cd, 1cdm, 1 winger 1 cd + the academy lads , jobs a good'un. It really isn't that hard to play players in positions they suit. Hamer and ohare can interchange.

As the vote is clearly showing and as a minimum, we need a solid, composed, tried and tested CDM to replace Vinni and a strong, hold up the ball, win a header and score a goal CF.

...and this absolutely needs a change in formation because this one certainly isn't working.

UTB

We've scored one goal in 3 league games and there are 70% of votes for a centre back and a defensive midfielder.

Unbelievable.
Why ? I’d say any attacking teams strength start with a solid spine through defence n midfield to enable chances to be created

The sad thing is, we have a lot of work to do, to add depth and to build a sound tactical plan. There's too much to do and not enough time to do it IMO, and that's without any unwanted departures. I think we're going to have a poor season.

Culture: firstly, we lack leaders and a clear spine to the side - comprised of model pros who drive the culture of the club (culture carried, sorry), whom demand high standards and whom are contracted to SUFC longer-term. As things stand, the squad reminds me too much of the 2011 relegation season in that respect. Too many here on shorter term plans, and for them, it becomes too easy to down tools if the situation remains difficult.

Squad balance: We're a side that is supposedly focused upon front foot football, but lacking in quality, proven championship attacking options. We're a side that is open to being turned over during transitions in play, but we own one CDM.

Depth: linked to this, we lack quality, experienced and proven effective pros, right across the park. We have Campbell at CF who, at this early stage, we are putting a dangerous amount of minutes into, already. Cannon is his expensive alternative at that position. As poor of a start as he may have had at SUFC, we simply have to utilise him for rotation, to build his minutes and to manage Campbell's. RB, CB (despite recruitment?!), CM, LW and RW are all weaker than last season. Across the park we are merely a few knocks away from drafting in the kids.

Tactics: the tactics under Wilder were not good enough, but the tactics under Selles are harder to understand. We're wide open at the back and not creative in attack. I can't see what we're trying to do.

Positions: going back to OP's original question, we have too much work to do, to recruit the depth, quality and experience that we need, IMO. Of all our signings, only Tanganga would be a direct attempt to improve last season's starting XI. So far, every other signing is a downgrade on their predecessor.

I'd argue that we need a RB, another CDM or solid CM, as Peck is still learning and Hamer isn't that type of player, sound in possession. We really need a RW to compete with Brooks for the starting XI. Similarly, someone on the LW to compete with Barry. CF quality needed too, as bonkers as that is.

MANAGER FFS
Do let let this clown waste money on his picks at least.
It will be another Cannon Brewster McDonkey Mousset Freeman etc waste of money.
Sort out the best loans we can get - if anyone will let players play under Selles
That's two new polls on here I cannot vote in.

I’d like to see us consciously switch to 3-4-2-1.

I’d then sign:
1. Tanganga
2. Mee
3. Seol (if failed, I’d keep Ukaki and use as a RWB option)
4. Choudhury/Iroegbunam or similar
5. Ings or Antonio (few options at this stage, cameo sharing with Oné to rest Campbell)

I’d offload:
1. Robinson - sell
2. Norrington-Davies - loan to QPR almost done
3. Curtis- loan
4. Cannon - loan or sell
5. Ukaki loan (in England with break clause Jan)

That gives me 25 men plus Davies/Shackleton which I’m not reliant upon.

(G): 1. Cooper 2. Davies 3. Faxon

(RWB): 1. Seol 2. Seriki 3. Shackleton

(LWB): 1. Burrows 2. McCallum

(CD): 1. Mee 2. Tanganga 3. Godfrey 4. Bindon 5. Zatterstrom 6. Sasnauskas

(CM): 1. Arblaster 2. Choudhury 3. Peck 4. Davies 5. Soumaré

(AM): 1. Hamer 2. O’Hare 3. Barry 4. Brooks

(CF): 1. Campbell 2. Ings/Antonio 3. Oné 4. Marsh

Shows how shocking our ability recruit has been over the last few years with lack of funds (despite parachute payments)

We don’t own a defensive midfielder - soumare on loan

We down own a left winger - Barry on loan

We don’t have a proper right winger - brooks learning on the job. NGE yet.

We dont have a right back - Seriki learning on the job. NGE yet.

We own one forward worth of a shirt in Campbell. Cannon a complete swing and a miss.

We still 100% need tanganga to come in.

You could make a case for any of those potions for me.

I’d argue we need another wide forward with positional versatility most of all as we aren’t creating anything.

The squad is just such a mess.

No leaders. Purposely due to the last manager, you have to think. I remember Hecky being angry he couldn't keep Norwood and Sharp and you have to presume it was more for their leadership abilities than footballing abilities.

No height. We're small. Even fielding players based purely on height he will regularly face bigger teams with set-piece takers.

Players not suited for the system. It was the same last year. Why sign McCallum on a long contract when you don't play wingbacks? BBD and play his out of position. Clarke and not play wingbacks. Choudhury and not play a DCM. Cannon and play one upfront? None of it makes sense.

I fear we're doing the same again. Stuck on 4:3:3 but without the players suited to several positions so shoehorning players in.

The obvious response would be to change your formation to suit the players you have.

The decision to simply play wingers last season without having any actual wingers was infuriating. Maddening, even. When we had wingbacks but then make them play as fullbacks.

Depending what happens this week with comings and goings, Selles will probably need to adapt his approach and formation if he wants to keep his job.

We sold a decent spine
Anel
Souza
Moore
If you take your spine out , have a guess what might happen to your body.
We need
Big dominant CB leader like Souttar.
Big dominant DCM like Souza.
Big dominant CF like Moore or OMcB.

We need to MAN-UP. !!!!
