I’ve voted for the 20/21, because if we’re going to have a depressingly shite season, it may as well be when no one can go !

I prefer it this way.

It stopped being painful way before Christmas and it doesn't feel like a real season anyway. It's just a bit boring. 06/07 was fucking traumatic on the other hand.

So yeah I'd give this one a TripAdvisor rating of 3/5 - Would get relegated again, and will recommend it to a friend.
06/07 still gets talked about as one of football's most controversial relegations, this season will be the one that everyone forgets. Liverpool, arguably the best team in the world last season, are sat in 7th and conceded seven goals in a game against Villa. This will always be a bizarre year, fans were utterly detached, teams were struggling to get any kind of form, Man U lost at Old Trafford to one of the worst sides in Prem history and still look set for second. This season is garbage, results are all over the place, most games aren't any good to watch, and fans won't be there to celebrate the success.

This is a non-season, strike it from the record and move on. That last game in '07 was one of the most dramatic moments in recent football history and hurt like hell.

I can't recall a more miserable season than this one, although i'm beyond embarrassment now

Correct. We weren't humiliated like this season

I think this season has probably been my worst ever, since around 1973. Embarrassing doesn't even come close.

Exactly. This just feels like a simulated season. Even the loss of Wilder isn't as keenly felt as if we'd all being there watching it unfold.

There's certainly no 'only to us could this happen' feeling.

I think under Bassett was the worst. It wasn't just the last match. It was the last minute of the last match.

Though certainly being on the cusp of Champions League or Europa League trajectory, with all our rivals nursing major injuries, only to be undone by a once in century pandemic, can be filed as being very Sheffield United.

Filed next to having a great team in the late 30s only for WWII to break out and Carlos Tevez.

Yeah, I feel like with fans in the ground every week you'd have either felt the support still rallying behind him and the players or there'd have been enough turn on him that we'd have all seen the writing on the wall. Would've probably made the decision one way or the other happen sooner.

I think that's it, they have nobody to answer to other than us commenting about it on here, an idiot with nothing better to do than send abusive messages on social media or the talking heads on TV.

If being booed off the field at half time by 30000 unhappy supporters isn't a kick up the arse I don't know what is. Equally, having 30000 people chanting your name to spur you on, making you run a bit faster and bust more of a gut. They're almost playing the game on a film set, difference being you only get one take and our lot fluff their lines every time.

Affected me badly this season. Just going into sub conscious hibernation until next season. I think the media exposure of football in modern times has compounded our demise, and my misery.

I'm still haunted by that memory, losing to Chelsea late on. I was dropping my daughter off at home just above Hillsborough. We were safe when I set off for home , 20 minutes later ... This season has been worse.

You might not think that I’d you’d been there...it was horrible.

Fans in the ground. I don't think Wilder would have offered to resign especially if he knew he still had a large vocal support in the stands.

This season is not a proper season, its a write off and so was post lockdown last season.

Both absolutely shite for differing ways. At least I enjoyed the majority of 06/07, whereas this season has been horrible throughout. I'd have to say this season is much worse overall, but gradually receiving the pain is easier to deal with than one extreme burst.
In my opinion, this has been the worst by far. Back then we were literally fighting for our Premier league lives, till the very last minute... This season is nothing short of embarrassing.

Don't know how anyone can say this is better than 2007

The end result might be the same, but after getting 38 points and going down, at least there was some optimism for the following season.

And if we'd kept Warnock or at least appointed a half wit instead of a total, complete and utter pisshead we'd have got promoted again.

This season is just abysmal, it's not only been a complete shitshow from start to finish, but it's also taken away any enthusiasm going forward

But surely neither option can be worse than 80/81? When we dropped into what was then the 4th Division. I ll never forget that day.
Heres the thoughts of someone from a blog of that day:

With just five minutes left in the season, Walsall player-manager Alan Buckley was brought down in the box by John MacPhail, Flint immediately pointing to the spot as the majority of hearts sunk within the stadium. Not for the last time during the afternoon, finding someone brave enough to shoulder the responsibility of a vital penalty kick proved difficult.
“I usually take them but my knee was causing problems,” Buckley revealed. “There wasn't a queue of volunteers either. But Don Penn stepped up and we thought that was it.” Sending Conroy the wrong way, Penn’s goal had seemingly saved Walsall and condemned Sheffield United to life in the basement. But then came the next twist in the tale.
As reality dawned on the home fans, some tried scaling the fences to invade the pitch, yet with just a minute to go in the season they were stopped in their tracks. Awarded what many felt was a soft penalty, Sheffield United now had a chance to seal their safety. Step forward Don Givens.
Republic of Ireland international Givens had only been at the club for two months, signed on transfer deadline day for £20,000 from Birmingham. However, the forward was about to leave an indelible mark in the history books of Sheffield United. With regular penalty taker Tony Kenworthy dropped by Peters, and deputy John Matthews unwilling to step up to the spot, Givens took the ball.
Many inside Bramall Lane could not bring themselves to watch as Givens struck the ball. Those who did saw Givens’ weak effort pounced upon by Walsall keeper Ron Green. “It seemed to take forever to leave his foot...and when it did, it rolled its way feebly, without a hope, towards the goalkeeper,” Cynthia Bateman wrote in the Guardian. A minute later, the Blades were down.

Gut wrenching did nt come into it.

This season is worse by a mile for me, no excitement whatsoever, at least before we had something to play right until the last kick of the final match, the games were exciting.

It's been clear we were going down for months this season and it has largely been boring and pointless, we've played most games like they are pre season friendlies.

It's not really slow and painful, the actual relegation was swift because we've been down for months, the hangover is the worst bit. It's long and boring.

It's like an actor hamming up their death so they get more screen time, just cut away ffs, get on with it.

06/07 hurt badly, this hurts but we're so shit I'm more humiliated than anything, I think not being there lessens any pain, but honestly after the shambles we've witnessed we deserve relegating, the players deserve their relegation clauses, and Wilder deserves a relegation on his CV if not unemployment, and that's that. Hopefully we can get back in the ground and help the team move on.

How fantastic would it be to only need a point in the final game this season. Way better whatever would have happened if that had been the case.
Yeah, we’d at least have gone down with a little bit of self respect in still in tact.

Best way to remove your ball sack from the rest of you ? :-

Sharp machete type instrument ?

Old rusty bread knife ?

Let the public decide !!

20/21 relegation is like an episode of Scooby Doo in that you know exactly what's happening after five minutes, then come back 15 minutes later and wonder why they haven't worked out that the one character that's never appeared before is the one that did it

06/07 was more like an episode of Deal or No Deal where you end up with a choice of 10k or a penny at the end. It's equally shit programming throughout, but at least the end has something riding on it

By the one character who doesn't seem to appear you mean Lundstrum right...? 😄

I went to Oldham, confident that we'd win there, so didn't bother getting tickets for Chelsea. From memory Tracey made a mess of a clearance and we drew 1-1, and on the way back over the Pennines I feared Saturday. But all was going well until those last few seconds. I was in Nottingham that night for a birthday and got stupidly drunk and spent the night in the cells after getting in a fight in a pub. A truly miserable day when everything conspired against us. Basset performed so many miracles but even he couldn't survive the Deano sale and bent Wimbledon at Everton. This one has been a picnic.

How anyone can say this season is worse than the way it ended in 06/07 I’ll never know. I’d very much rather us go down with a wimper than being blatantly cheated out of the league.

It was so cruel.

Omg another bloody post dwelling on failure. Let’s change the subject to best ever promotions.
