Where Are Our New Ones ?

Probably nobody but was just speaking hypothetically. Brayford and Adams are the main saleable assets.

I guess we'll never know if we're talking signing on fees too as we never get a sniff of that information. I can't see us going out and paying say £500k or more for a player though. I hope we will get the right ones and a blend that will work but as someone who didn't want Adkins sacked, I didn't generate a new wave of optimism just because we put a new sacrificial lamb in place to try to mask our shortcomings elsewhere.

Correct !

Myself; being a cynical old bastard, I haven't fallen for this "optimism" being talked about because I've seen and heard it all before from United's Boards, on many occasions.

I shall be optimistic when I see that we've actually put together a squad which has a realistic chance of competing for the top two places this season ...... and right now, early as it may be, I see no evidence that this is going to happen any time soon.

I shall be delighted to be proven wrong in the first month of the season if our newly assembled squad of red & white wizards are tearing this agricultural division a new one ...... however, I fear another season of self-imposed exile and the frustration and disappointment that will bring .... :(

What odds will you give me on us spending less than £2m in transfer fees before the season starts?

I'll allow you to include any money spent generated from player sales.

Undisclosed fees can only be the best reasonable estimate. If it's too close to call the bet can be cancelled.
Straight 40 quid bet to childrens hospital.either way

Only if our Board have had personality transplants and have decided to change tactics and listen to common sense for the first time ......

Think youll will see they do fund the side .just give it to the inadequate managers weve had. If Wilder can prove he is as good ss I think he is the money spent will look like money well spent

I'm not sure what theory you're talking about. I simply asked you a question which you have failed to answer
Yes we will put in 2 mill as straight transfer fees .if chris asks for it.
Might end up spending more if we sell some .might spend less if he is wily enough in the market.what my argument is is the board will put up the funds. We could pend 6 m and come up short .theress no guarentees.but he might get us up.on 1.5 m.its all about forging a team.and its not just about money

I'll happily take a bet here, say £10 to the children's hospital that we don't spend £2million in transfer fees between now and the end of the season. We can even assume that every undisclosed/nominal fee like Hussey is £100k where there is no reported figure. You in?

£10 quid? Jesus wept, I will get Henry boots on a new extension pronto.

I'm sorry. Some of us don't like gambling large sums of money. Is offering a bet where the Children's hospital gets an extra £10 either way wrong in some way?

depends what the question was

Well, looking in the rumours section, there's three other players looking close now, so I'm expecting something announced on Friday...

But, in classic style if we have incoming, then surely somebody's gone for for a few quid to make this possible...

We will find out soon enough....

definitely , we take undisclosed to be the middle of any press given fee

say if we buy bradley dack for an eg
if its quoted as being 1.5m 2 m and 2.5 m we go for the middle one

Yes Wilder said last week there will not be any new signings for a few weeks ................................. translated from United speak that means the money has run out and we now have to scrape the barrel for free's, crocks and old has beens to supplement a few from the academy unless we can sell our best player to the first club that offers close to a million quid.

That's what the rest of league one has to do. Why should you be any different? Some make more success of it, than others.

And some , despite their sanctimony, don't.

Come on raul, food for thought there from Baz, we can all learn from our comically named Walsall correspondent, as he drops his pearls of wisdom..

Funny how he went quiet after the play offs, I wonder if he'd been absent for so long if by some miracle, they'd gone up. As it is, at one of the high pints in their history, they're still in the same league as we are and we've never been worse.

Sorry Trig, I would have given you a like, but you've put "pints" instead of "points". As per the rules of the sight, this invalidates your otherwise excellent point....

As an aside, I'm looking forward to meeting up with the Northern Gills at the Sheffield Tap again this year. Following on from the semi-polite chat we had with them last year when they were going up, I'm sure brownie and @LS26 will concur.

Always turn off from football completely in the close season, otherwise I have to read about our whinging fans complaining all our players have gone every year, before we usually go on to replace them adequately.

We didn't stand a chance in the play offs, as soon as we bottled against Bradford and Oldham it was game over for me. Automatic or nothing, and the players that have been ushered out bottled it. The team (not individuals) were good enough to win the league, or at least outdo Burton, but O'Dismal and a few players that didn't show up in key games saw to that.

As for high pints, we have plenty of them at every away game. That's what its about for us, football is secondary. If some of you treated it the same, there wouldn't be so many meltdowns on here so frequently.

Thought I might have hooked more than one tbh , so cheers ISC.

It's easy to talk like you do wally Bad
Expectancy level at your club is low, where as ours goes through the roof while we graze very uncomfortably in the lower leagues
yesterday expect to get out of this league every season and will until we achieve it . That's the difference pressure. Walsall play good possession football, if we play the same possession stuff without the rewards, fans get very frustrated very
quickly and confidence ebbs away from the team. Walsall get away lightly with failure as I said the expectancy level is low in comparison.
We have gone down the road of playing possession football and it does not work for us at this level.
Chris Wilder has come in and we will be a lot more direct and be more effective doing so, Pressure is a big killer and a more direct style will deliver what we want( beware Walsall we are coming for ya) .
We can play possession stuff when
promotions are achieved, Stoke are a classic example of changing the blue print as they are progressivly changing there style under Mark Hughes, bringing in quality players and gradually leaving the land of the giants,( that's not to say height is not important in any team.

The possession football grated with a lot of fans. Under Smith, it was often a case of playing too many sideways passes for the sake of it.

This season will be different under Whitney. He's bought in players that will get the ball forward in fewer passes. Still on the floor, and not lumping it, as we'll be a team of midgets again.

It should make us more exciting to watch, and there'll be plenty of goals if people stay fit. We'll probably concede a lot more though.

Only a few hours to go now where we should have the two players in Wilder was hoping to sign before the Grimsby match

Let's hope it's all a ploy to pleasantly surprise the fans when they run out onto the pitch tomorrow

Wouldn't it make more sense to announce them now as it might sell a few more tickets?
