Didn’t Piggy Sterland have to wear a United shirt. I bet he’s still wincing about that.
Wasn't he a Blade as a little kid? Someone who grew up on the Manor with him told me he was.

My mate Andrews in that film. He's in the brewery and tells that crap joke about thinking his wife's dead.
My other half knows Shep, she went through school with him.

Years ago we bumped into him on Fargate. He was doing theatre at the time but said keep an eye out for me on BBC1 next week.

'Why, what you in?'
'I'm playing a rapist on Crimewatch' 😁

Can't remember if he actually was or if he was joking.

I was on the Kop that day. At half-time, they were filming the penalty scene for WSC. As I recall, there were several takes of the penalty and on each take we were asked to shout and cheer when it went in. Dunno if they just dubbed it over in the end!
Yeah, Sean Bean was shite at pens.

I was at the Man Utd game when they did the filming I think it was the penalty Sean Bean takes and a few other bits. They did the filming at half time. Also the day when they invited fans to come to BL and do more filming there was about few hundred and we had to keep moving seats and filming different parts of the ground to make it look full. At work my mates missus worked for the Jeweller who supplied the rings they used and both Sean Bean and Emily Lloyd were there for the fitting.

Note the "working title" is different.

I’ve a recollection that they made the decision to rename the film because “A Pint of Bitter” wouldn’t appeal to the American audience. Begs the question of how much WSC (either the title or the film itself) appealed to the Americans.

It allus gets me when Di use Th, it's D. we are the Dee Darrs....
It's allus Dee, Dem, an us,
Except wi swair words, den weer same as dem....;)

Was anyone amongst the group of Sean Bean’s mates that were extras in some of the scenes - including the nightclub / stripper one?

Tried to do a bit of digging on this but can't really find anything for sure.

The aging on the signature and colour definitely look like they're weren't made at the same time as the dedication. Could have been won or gifted with the personal message being made by someone else.

The only thing I can find in terms of a football team is Allerton Bywater Miners Football Club, which I know is in an opposite direction of where the pub is but not massively far away.

There's Eckington Boys Football Club which was founded in 1983 - Surnames of Adams, Barden & Bailey come up. So in your mention of what you remember it could be something like Adams & Barden/Bailey Memorial Football Club. I can't find anything online regarding a memorial club though.

Did a bit of digging to see there was any link to some sort of Miners club but alas nothing.

Best idea would be to get in touch with the pub to see if you can find any leads. Unlikely the owners now will know anything but they might be able to put you in touch with someone who does.

Could also take a punt and message him on Instagram - You never know!
Wow thank you so much ☺️ very thorough and thoughtful

I have to laugh at the exaggerated Sheffield accent in these sorts of film set locally, not sure how they can get it wrong, there are so many variations of saying the same sentence in the City and round about. I was brought up in Wincobank moving to the new houses in Halfway in the late 70's was a culture shock the people in Mosbrough village sounded very posh with a bit of Derbyshire in there, in fact it was Derbyshire at that time. You were one of those uncouth Sheffielders who called a post a puerst. I had a brother-in-law from Oughtibridge he spoke with a lot of West Yorkshire and Barnsley words that you don't use in Sheffield like thetti fotti. Go to High Green and you are close to being a Dingle. Rotherham too has its own phrases and words, our lass works in Rotherham and has started using Rotherham speak like I woh in a reyt takkin for feeling unwell. You can hear it all in the melting pot of Sheffield and South Yorkshire enough to know which area someone comes from.

It very rare that the film industry can do a good footy film , , I enjoyed WSC as well as the other 2 mentioned The Damned United and Marvelous, I also visited cinema to watch a filmed performance of Dear England, enjoyed it so much went to watch it at the theatre and hoping to do so again when it on in Bradford

Let's be honest, it was shit, but beautifully shit and our shit. As a 16 year old watching it in the Odeon on the Saturday night of it's release, with everyone gasping and pointing out when they saw their mate or their road, and pissing themselves at the shite accents, going mad cheering at the end, it felt bloody perfect.

My personal favourite bit is the most unnecessary scene in the history of cinema, on the 52 bus and the little lad from The Full Monty saying he's going to see his Granddad, and our Sean saying 'That's nice'.

My point exactly. The southern suburbs have a mellowed Derbyshire/Notts inflection (but still very much Yorkshire) but northern estates carry massive Barnsleyisms and Rotherisms in their phrases and dialects.

I have nephews and nieces all over the metropolitan borough and they all speak differently having settled in various regions.

Boring fact. I worked at Allerton Bywater Mine Service Centre for 2 years.

Anyway, the film was shit.

I made the mistake of going to the cinema to see it. A couple of rows in front of us was two blokes. One of them had a Blades scarf on and cheered every time Yooonited scored. And he wasn't simple. Jeez

Anyone else miss SB being an over priveledged son of a bitch twat of a human?
He's actually worse than Wilder!

I went to see Saipan last week which was decent. “Alan Kelly” even makes it on screen with a minor speaking part.

Only thing I struggled with was the height difference between McCarthy and Keane made it look like McCarthy was scared of him. In real life he’d have battered Keane.

Go on, I'll bite.....

I'm not sure you have quite read the room here, but top marks for linking SB to CW.

Stick to Uncle Susa, there's a good chap.

Whatever people think of SB as an actor (or as a person if you personally know him) he is a Blade. Just like Matt Fitzpatrick he shows his allegiance with pride and shouts our name from the rooftops. That is good enough for me. Top Blade! ⚔️ ⚔️

Makes me fully believe that if Hollywood made a graphic, harrowing movie about Fred and Rose or Epstein, if they had a Blades top on or even if Annie's Song was on on the radio in the background while they were carrying out their beastly stuff there are people out there who'd buy the VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray and subscribe to Netflix just so they could watch it.

"Reyt film! Seen it ten times! Up the Blades!"

I think he’s a very good actor, feels like he gets killed a lot in his films though!

However, WSC wasn’t a good film even though it had actors that have been great in other films, like Pete Postlethwaite.

I did enjoy SB’s role in The Martian, played it quite understated I thought.

Also in Goldeneye the only time I’ve ever rooted for a Bond villain 😂

Have you seen Sharpe 😳🤦‍♂️

Bastard

SB is excellent alongside Stephen Graham in Jimmy McGovern’s Time. A prison drama with three episodes and a story that ends properly (rather than limping on for more ‘seasons’ which ruins loads of TV drama).

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p09fs2x4

Saying that, there is a Series 2 but this is a completely different story and explores similar themes from a female perspective. It is also excellent.

The same team also made this one off drama which was good, but not as good… and it is not on iPlayer anymore.

I thought Time was amazing, but also it’s so grim/tense I have no intention of ever watching it again.

He's decent in 'This city is ours', too, although there's no explanation why a dee dar bleeder, is running a Liverpool mafia family.

He did indeed. Shep has lost alot of weight since he filmed it. Unfortunately the presenter on Crimewatch had to disclaim that the real bloke was alot thinner before he was shown.

Bloody boring from me rather than pedantry but accent is how you pronounce words ie how you speak and sound, dialect is the actual local words.

It's both though, isn't it? You only also have to look at the massive differences in how Manc accents vary across their expanding GM metro borough.

People from Leigh and Wigan use a wide variety of differing phrases, terms and pronunciations but there's less than ten miles between them.

Even where I live - some miles from Sheffield - there are such differences between various regions.

My point is that actors who get a role in a Sheffield based drama could do themselves a favour and utilise a 'propoh' dialect coach, thanose.

No mate, I agree with much of what you've said, I wasn't making a point- just saying that definition wise, accent is the sounds, dialect is the words (so saying lovely like 'luvvleh' is accent, but a local word like 'nesh' is dialect).
