Pompey , if your in Portsmouth , we used to meet up with the 6.57 lads . In fact some of them came to sheffield and we went fishing at Damfask and spent time in the Buccaneer pub in town .

6.57 lads - the 'genuine ones' were okay fellers. They were up for the sport, liked a beer and respected the Blades and the BBC.

Of course, one day in late January 1998 all of that changed ...

It was crazy in that Buccaneer one of the first boozers we went in town then we use to go to that club on Dixon Lane

That's the one

Used to go in regular with blades called Pete Baines and 6 foot 7 black guy called Frank Montague . Also 2 black guy brothers ( one died ) who used to knock around with Billy Jeffcock and Andy Smith .

Saturdays Down Broadway on high street.

Jeffcock's dad was also mad-crazy. His garage was adorned with political/conspiratorial slogans for the passing motorists to read (usually about the government, one I remember was about Rhodesia and had a hangman by the side of it)

He also owned that small pond in Oakes Park which was full of lazy carp and tench that would never bite.

Was Jeffcock related to the pioneer of "covered wagon" coach fishing trips that used to leave Sheffield every Sunday morning at sparrows fart bound for Trent, Witham and the Fens?

Christ, the Buccaneer, can smell the Double Diamond now........

In plastic glasses first time i'd seen those.

We used to go on SUT bus from Pond St we used to be up early for that mind we were keen!

I knew Seni at school. Wombat was possibly one of the Williams lads. Ian was the Human League's fan club fixer back in the day and unfortunately not with us having died young. Glyn was in my year at school and a battler. You did not mess with the Williamses.

I played for the Cutlers Arms - I have posted a picture a bit back of me receiving our end of season awards with Geoff Salmons outside the Cutlers.

Here's us in Herdings Park, one bleak Sunday around 1975.

Pretty sure I wore that kit at the Abbeydale Grange playing football.

Was talking to my old man about this over a pint the other day. I just wondered how many of you like us were sad enough to go down to BDTBL that night for the filming of the game against Man United?. We like many more read the article in The Star asking for volunteers and made our way down there. They move us from one end of the stand to the other and then on to another stand and stuff. The only highlight of that evening was when Mel Sterland ran out from the tunnel and went arse over tits in front of a very appreciative and supportive United crowd! :D

I just remember Bean taking the penalties at half time and having about 5 attempts as he hoofed a couple over the bar.
We cheered every one of them.

You lot bring back a lot of Memories. I was brought up on Park Hill so I knew the Jeffcock's very well. I also knew Colin Walters had died some years ago, For a time he was a promising heavyweight boxer. Vinten is my age early 60's, I moved away from Sheffield 30 years ago, so lost touch a bit. But did see Billy Jeffcock and his missus last March. I wouldn't have recognised him, but his missus recognised me, and shouted me over. A lot of us were skinheads/suedeheads in the late 60's.
In those days Park Hill was a smashing place to live. Just a short walk to BDTBL and a hop and a jump to town. There were so many boozers around us that you could have a nights pub crawling and not have to walk more than a few hundred yards.

Anyone remember the fair that used to be in the fields opposite the water tower every year? I remember one year the travelling folk from the fair picked all the daffodills from the roundabout, then went round door to door selling them in bunches.

I drove up there over Christmas to go to the tip. The estate has not changed much since the 70's, and still looks quite pretty and well-laid out, from a distance at least. The John O Gaunt is still there. Dunno how rough it is these days, or what kind of people are living there now.

Aye. He ran the charabancs all over the shop. Old feller, white hair, Glasses. Mental. We used to 'have Jeffcock out' as a bit of a dare by lobbing stones at his garage. He used to come out in his slippers all ranting and raging and chase us, the daft cunt.

You just can't get away with ageist persecution, bullying and intimidation like you used to back in the good old days.

Lings and (later) Shufflebottom's fair. One of their kids (Henry) came to our school at Hemsworth for a short while, until he was expelled. Hard as nails and a right handful for the teachers.

That fair was ace. As a teen lad back in the 70s it was a minge oasis, brilliant fun and unbelievably dangerous.

Blimey! The LInk, Queen, Earl and Parkway! Some right characters appeared in those pubs over the years. In fact didn't The Scottish Queen win the toughest pub in Britain award at some point :D quite an accolade that. Shame though only went in em all a few times with mates but could see the potential, would have been a dfecent little crawl in it's prime before dropping down to one of the clubs in town.

I lived on the Norfolk Park until i was 14 and i had a lot of good mates on the Park and Hyde Park we all went to Norfolk School on City Rd.
Best memories were that Youth Club under the Target pub we used to go boxing there think they called it Hyde Away.

We caddied at Lees as well. I went round with Tony Christie once (my mate was caddying, I was just 'backup' like)

He tipped us about £3 each.

I know a few of them Paul Savage,Mick Hill and Fewkey.
I think they lived near the Fellbrigg i lived on the bottom in the Jervis Block.
My mates there were Kev Deakin, Mark Porter, Pete Middleton, Dave and Tony Carter, Alan Plant

A lot of the filming for WSC was done at Hallam FC - opposite The Plough, my local. Bean became a regular and Poselthwaite popped in too. For such a small film, I couldn't believe the logistics involved. There was a huge catering truck parked in one of the pub car parks during filming.

One teatime, I got talking to a fit young bird who was a 'runner'. They did one shot showing Bean pulling on a pair of those boots (Predators?) that Craig Johnson designed. For some arcane reason, for another shot they needed a pair in a different size. Sheffield being the backwater is always has been, didn't have a pair so she had to go over to Manchester. Good times. Shit film.

It was indeed a shit film.

Poor Tony Currie. The only person in the film whose acting prowess was less than Sean Bean.

Memory not that great but some of those names definitely ring a bell, we lived on the Arbourthorne next to the playing fields, and I went to Norfolk School, left there in 1978.

You're right about one of the toughest pubs in Britain, but it was The Link, but when it was filmed the Link had changed it's name to something else.
We lived just above the l Link and used to chuck water filmed balloons on to the revellers when we were chabby's. We were about 6 storeys up. To be fair we were well behaved, some kids used to chuck tellys.
At one time or another they were all my local. We formed a football team called Park74 which eventually morphed into the Scottish Queen football team. From memory most of us were Blades, but we had a few good mates who went over to the dark side.
