How do we get this team fired up?

I know theoretically it's possible to make playoffs blah blah blah but historically no team with a start like ours has ever made the playoffs.

Even when Cooper took over at Forest they were better placed than we are now.

The record books say that teams with starts like ours are almost always relegated or in a relegation scrap.

So my main concern is how do we get these players to continue to fight when no upside left to play for and this season is pretty much a write off.

You can already see the likes of Hamer, Burrows, Cooper already starting to give up the ghost.

Nothing left to play for ? What about not getting relegated and not being seen as players that go missing when the going gets tough ?

Not getting relegated won't be a factor, why would it.... Hamer etc can all get moves if that happens. Won't affect them in the slightest

You're seriously questioning the professionalism of the players there. Players are human. They have ups and downs etc. Not every poor run of form is them refusing to try

We’re in a relegation battle not a play off one , whether we like it or not we’re stuck with what we’ve got until Jan come what may .
I disagree that players have given up , maybe more to do with the lack of confidence under the previous manager & 6 of the players they finished playing the season with in May have moved onto pastures new & other than the odd one been replaced with far inferior players .

We have a manager who whatever else you think of him is one of the best man-managers in the game. There's 114 points left to play for and we're only 10 points off 6th or two results away from getting out of the bottom 3. We just had a narrow defeat to one of the fancied sides that could easily have been a win if not for a bent ref. If Wilder can't spin that into some kind of underdog narrative then the whole lot of them want sacking.

There’s still 38 games of football to be played this season. The seasons not a dud we’ve just had a poor start. Once we get to January and if the right players come in we could be well placed to make a good run of form. I’m not saying we’re not crap because we are but there is still time for us to turn it around with a possible 114 points to play for.

3 goals in 8 games 😳
Cov scored 22
Even the Pigs have double our tally.

The COH nonentities have fucked us (and themselves) royally with their “we know better than you” cockiness and their utter cluster fuck double debacle of Selles and recruitment.

The most we can aim for at the moment is getting above the pigs plus a couple more. Anything else is both a bonus and pie in the sky at this point.

That midfield is as weak as piss and the front line couldn’t trap a bag of cement.

Not replacing strikers is unforgivable, too. If anyone thinks Ings is the answer you’d better pray for a magical treatment table (to replace the cursed one we’ve been using for the last 5 years)

A new contender for most ridiculous post of the year. Gets extra points for creating a new thread to showcase it.

... us? the fans.

I think for the most part we have over recent times had a good relationship with our players. Hamer for example always seems to appreciate his name being sung etc.

Not suggesting we start slating them every game, but surely going out each week to try and win a game of football to see the fans happy and excited is worthwhile (and something Wilder always tries to engage with) rather than 90 minutes of getting grief.

The other side of it, being slightly more cynical is that players like Hamer, Burrows and Cooper, will have personal aspirations in football.

Hamer has been talked about since we bought him as being bought but nothing has materialised. Him having a season playing rubbish and getting relegated isn't going to do his career much good, unless he just wants a move to another championship side.

Burrows and Cooper are the same but need some serious performances to put them in the spot light.

We started the season as a fancied side not a relegation favourite Southampton we’re not very good with one win and the manager a result or so away from the sack

I think it will be a copy of last season where we beat nearly everyone we should but fall to the bugger sides. Replace Bindon and Cannon with quality in January and we'll be gunning for 6th.

Its very comparable.

After 8 games Cooper took over they had 4 PTS (1 better than us) and were 3pts behind 21st place (same as us).

They were 9pts off 6th (We're 10)
People love to bring up that Forest team. They were just a much better squad. Their top 11 by apps (they also had Lolley, Figuieredo, Sam Sturridge, Keinan Davis, Steve Cook, Cafu)

PlayerAfter 21/22
Brennan JohnsonSold for £50m

Joe WorrallSold for £4.5m to Burnley. United would have him in a heartnbeat
Jack ColbackSolid, versatile veteran.
Brice SambaSold for £5m, then for £15m. Ligue Un regular in a very good Rennes team
Lewis GrabbanSharp like goalscorer, coming to the end of his career

We have a team with no backbone and we need a complete reset. No excuse for some of their 'performances' . Imagine some of them in the everyday world of work? Basics of football for outfield players, to be able to control a ball, to be able to make a basic pass...something most of our team have decided is beyond them. We have a keeper who has turned from Gordon Banks to Mr fcking Tumble. It's pathetic and blaming Selles is wrong. In the real world of work, we have all had crap bosses, but we get on with the job because we know if we don't, it could lead to us losing our livelihoods. This bunch make me angry, some proper entitled twats who need to fck off

I don’t think they’re giving up, but Wembley and then Selles have clearly affected their mentality.

They need to reconcile themselves to not being challengers, and focus on the job in hand. If they don’t we’re genuinely on the precipice.

Hope I'm wrong, but with this bunch! It's looking stuck on for L1, repeating myself again(yes it's what we all know) the transfer window was appalling! Maybe January might give us a slim chance🙏but who the fucks! Going to make & score the goals!!

Weren’t we down there with them also?
We were the Ipswich/Southampton - straight out of the PL and struggling to find form under Slav

Interestingly, only 1 of the bottom 6 in the table got relegated (Peterborough). Joining them were Barnsley (19th) and Derby (12th).
Additionally - only 2 of the top 6 actually finished in the top 6 - AFCB and Fulham

The season most definitely isn't over after 8 games

So, if history repeats itself...

United win the Play Offs to join Coventry and Middlesbrough in the PL. Then Derby, Blackburn and Millwall will go down 🤣

We need to go 4 or 5 games unbeaten to immediately lift us into some semblance of respectability and to give Wilder a little bit of credit, we've at least started to look a bit more cohesive, changed the system, we've scored in the last 2 games, got a win on the board and ought to have got something out of Southampton, no thanks to the ref. It's a low bar to improve on but we're making some shuffles forward.

The teams we're up against over the next few games are very beatable. With 38 games left, we need to win about 14 of them with a few draws.

We've ultimately been shafted by recruiting a dodgy manager, scattergun recruitment and relating directly to that, not replacing the players who left with ones who are fit to lace their boots, especially the loanees from last season who were a level above what we've had in this season.

Souttar, Choudhury, JRS (who was a bit unfairly done by at times), Gilchrist and even a half baked BBD would all walk straight into this team and improve it overnight. In place of these, we've got Bindon, Barry, Soumare, Godfrey and Ogbene, three or four of which could disappear tomorrow and wouldn't be missed.

Of the many players we've signed, only Tanganga, Mee and Ogbene in patches would get in last season's team, though I doubt Ogbene would start. At best, some of the others might make the bench.

We've downgraded the squad, downgraded the manager to start with and ultimately we are where we are.

Just realised I highlight Blackpool not Barnsley

They had a far better team that we have now.

Even comparing to our team that season, the one that went from 17th when Slav left to play offs and was vastly superior to the current team.

We have no one approaching the levels of Ndiaye, MGW, Berge, Egan, Basham, Baldock, Norwood, Sharp in their respective positions. Hamer is the potential match winner but he’s a stone too heavy this season.

We have a team of thrown together last minute signings and bizarre loan signings.

Wilder looks set not to play Bindon, Godfrey or Barry so we’ve wasted those loans. Cannon is absolutely bobbar and makes us worse when he’s on the pitch.

Then you have the attitude of the players, we were 1 nil up at home the other night and they score 2 goals under zero pressure from us. Zero fucks given by most of the team. I’ve even seen people suggest that Tom ‘Pirlo’ Davies played well, yet he was at major fault for both goals by not doing the basics of trying hard and putting a foot in.

I admire your optimism but this squad isn’t going to pull a run together after having scored 3 league goals in 8 games and conceded many pathetic goals at the other end. They don’t have the ability or the desire to do so.

I’m hoping we won’t go down and if we do then they all deserve to be sacked from Bettis down to the players. I’d take a 16th place finish now if offered.

Last season showed the weak mentality was already embedded, when we didn't turn up against the sides at the top, the ones we needed to beat to go up and the PO final. They didn't fancy it or just couldn't get up for those games.

This season is just showing it in sharper focus after the managerial changes and dreadful start.

Imagine trying to make a PL squad with this lot as the 'backbone' of it. It doesn't bear thinking about.

This is where we are now. A 'sleeping giant' that stirred a couple of times but got it's head back under the duvet again.

Hamer has no ambition.
If he had , he'd have gone in the summer.
Fact is , he's happy coasting along at little ol' Sheffield United , knowing he's undroppable as 'Championship PoS'.
If he'd any ambition he'd lose some weight , reign in his stupid temper and the bookings it collects , and get himself to a PL club.
But he's perfectly content , playing far within his potential , for dem Blades

Plenty to play for still, do the double over the pigs and stay out of the bottom three by the end of the season. If we have 25pts by Christmas we will have done well, get some players in January and we might just get to 50pts by the end of the season, that's all we have left.

I agree with you but if we start looking like relegation is on the cards, in response to the OP, he might up his game just to make sure he gets that move. League 1 Player of the season, probably isn't so attractive.
