The Saturday evening convergence of like minded individuals at GT News, Burncross Road eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Green Un.

It was an eclectic mix of old timers and teenagers all wanting to see the scores, scorers and league tables, and the mad scramble when the van turned up with its precious cargo

That went on until I reach boozing age and the Green Un became an essential read on the bus home, or a quick scan in the pub.

Every weekend I’d always make sure I got my hands on a Green Un. When I worked away it’d get posted to me every week.

I’d say it starting dying out the late 90s, early 2000s and the arrival of internet connected phones meant important things such as scores and league tables and instant news could accessed immediately, and ultimately the writing on the wall came quickly in the end.

To say it was such a big part of my teenage years, I’d very much doubt that even I explained it to my lad he would even know what I was on about
