For consistency over a long period the 2 semi finals/Wolves debacle team is still above this one for me.
Ask again in May![]()
2005-06 team would still wipe the floor with our current crop.
Disagree completely. Warnock's promotion side might scuffle a 1-0 win but if either side was to do some floor wiping with the other it'd be the current lot. That said, a fair proportion of our trip round the pubs of Bristol after we'd played City was spent trying to build a combined XI, something we deemed impossible owing to the completely different formations employed.
FWIW:
Kenny;
Kozluk/Geary, Short/Bromby, Morgan, Unsworth/Armstrong
Ifill, Montgomery, Jagielka, Tonge/Quinn
Shipperley/Akinbiyi, Kabba/Webber
is, IMHO, nowhere near as good as
Henderson
Basham Egan O'Connell
Freeman Norwood Fleck Stevens
Duffy
Sharp McGoldrick
The only player from the 2005/06 line up I'd definitely take is Jagielka to play at RCB, harsh though that might be on Basham and despite the fact that Jagielka didn't play at centre half until the premier league season. I'd take Armstrong to battle it out with Stevens and Webber over Washington but neither would make the starting XI.
My prediction: SUFC 18/19 3-0 SUFC 05/06. Think Bolton away.
You're talking rubbish.
Come back when this team has achieved automatic promotion to the Premier League and then we'll talk.

I thought about Morgan but his limitations with the ball would rule him out of any Wilder side. In terms of strikers, I'd take HMS Shipperley as the hold-it-up forward option and Webber or Kabba over Washington as the pacy ball-into-the-channel option on current evidence.
Give me Jagielka, Morgan and the wealth of striking options from Warnock's side, with this years' squad and we'd top the table either year.
I presume you rate Warnock above Wilder then?
the only decent striker was Kabba

It goes without saying that in my imaginary game the MOM award goes to Paul Coutts btw.
