Whatever happened to Glenn Cockerill

Elegant ball player was Cockerill.

Always remember his goal that wasn't v Grimsby at the Lane where he put one in the top corner, the ball hit the stanchion inside the net and came out, the ref being the usual crap un who was blind as a bat, ruling that it had never gone in. We lost it 3-2.

Always been lucky us Blades.

Was this the follow up to " Whatever happened to the likely lads" ?

Good idea but guess it never made it past the pilot episode.

Fuck me, 59 years old with a 6 year old son?

I reckon he’ll be tiling bathrooms ‘til they put the lid on, rather him than me, but as ever, GLTTOL ;)

Whatever happened to Joe Bolton? Proper hard man and fav of mine.

I remember going to see us play Lincoln away in the FA cup. He was the standout player and I'm sure it was on that performance we signed him?
Cannot remember the year though?
He used to come in to the Wee Willie with Colin Morris on a regular basis.
Really was a cracking player and the Glenn Cockerill of that time would fit in the present team no problem and be our stand out midfielder.

I worked with a Lincoln fan and when we signed him, he told me he was Lincoln’s best player and we’d signed a top player.
Said scouts of bigger clubs were watching him so we’d done well to get in early and sigh him when we did.

He was correct, He quickly became our best player, fantastic engine, high energy, always busy.
All round style, good tackler, good passer and shooter, good brain too, generally kept it simple and effective.
No spectacular skill or flair, understated style (like an Engolo Kante type) means he doesn’t often receive a mention when talking about our best players but he was a consistently very solid/ effective player that became too good for our team.

You could see that Cockerill was destined for the top division and it was no surprise a top flight club came in for him.

He came up to me in a pub in chesterfield. I had my Utd shirt on and he started chatting and said I used to play for sufc. Surprised I asked who he was and he said Joe Bolton. Seemed really nice bloke and still had a soft spot for us.
