Interesting thread
Ken Jnr (who's mid 20s) was telling me on Tuesday night that the second half was possibly one of the most boring he had witnessed - even considering Adkins and Weir.
Premise being that we just could not effect the game. It wasn't a contest.
He said at half time that he did not have any clarity on what he would do to change things about if he were Wilder. There just wasn't any options to call upon. He then said that the best thing to do would be for Wilder to let Brooks and Ched get some game time to help get some match fitness in them. Lo and behold as the second half was about to begin (this was before Brooks was warming up without his tracky on) the change happened and Ched joined the fray 20 mins later.
It's the contest that matters
Chasing shadows is boring.
Goalmouth action (I've banged on about this for years vs possession stats) is what's exciting - at both ends.
Being totally dominant against another team is boring (save for Weeds and Wendy

)
Taking tackling out of the game (Lee Evans tackle was a perfect example - brilliantly timed) is a big issue for me.
And as
Small Mendonca has already stated - if we have a money bags team of international players from overseas, then what am I identifying with?
I certainly didn't start in the mid 70s as a glory hunter.
It's the hope that we can win something on merit that keeps you energised.
It shouldn't be a procession.
It has to mean something.
I've lived away from Sheffield for so long it's one of the key things that binds me to my roots and my past.
If the core identity of that is wiped away at any stage then I'd be thinking twice.
Crickey - are we in an age where Mester Wilder the last vestige of truth?
