I think we could cope with losing Norwood, now that the Roller is back. Duffy, Fleck or even Sharp on the other hand....

In any case I think we still need a few in the building come January just to be sure that we are covered till the end of the season.

As for a kick in the nuts, how about losing to that shower in S6? Very possible as despite being below us in the league now for over 50 matches they actually have a much better team, or so they keep telling themselves. Maybe someone should tell their players as well, they must have forgotten or something

I think we have quality depth all over now. We won't instantly go to shit if one of our midfielders snaps in half like we did last season.

There's players we'd miss of course, but none that would destroy our system. This is pretty much all down to the signing of Norwood.

In answer to the OP, probably a dodgy curry.

Possibly a long term injury to either of the front two. Not entirely confident any of the replacements would be up to the task - obviously Clarke if he can find his goal scoring boots again but not looked likely thus far.

With 10 games to go, we will be top of the league with a positive goal difference of 50 and needing just a point to win the title against the then bottom club who have just lost their entire first 11 who were allowed to cancel their contracts to sign up for the impending war effort. BDTBL will be packed to the rafters with us waiting to cheer our heroes onto the pitch, to secure our return to the Premier league when at 14.58 Gary Sinclair pops up and says, 'It is with great sadness that I have to announce........"

In the 'Threat' column of my SWOT analysis, I currently have brexit, global warming, global pandemic, meteor strike, the dead rising and roaming the earth & long term Billy Sharp injury.

Brexit isn't going to be a problem for Sheffield United.

We are 'Team Brexit' according to reports on the continent anyway.

Whoever proves to be most irreplaceable gets injured then the owners pull the plug on Wilder's January budget.

Burn out ?

High impact/intensity in every game we play which is also replicated in every training session . Can the players cope ? Was that one of the reasons we dropped off last season ? Is this the reason Wilder also seems to favour squad rotation when the games come thick and fast ?

This is the only concern I have . Our first team is clearly better than last season . Our squad also has more quality that last time round too . But is there sufficient quality in the squad to maintain our current levels of skill and intensity ?

The JTW will be pivotal for us imo

................"Billy Sharp's legs have gone"

An injury to McGoldrick would probably be the most devastating blow.

After him, Duffy if Woodburn isn’t ready for the step up.

Being serious for a moment, other than a total shit storm of about 4 or 5 things occurring together, the three individual threats to our hopeful success this season relate to 1.) CW leaving 2.) Having to sell star players in JTW and 3.) Our goals drying up.

We are in the lap of the gods with 1.), but it would appear that whilst CW feels like he is progressing and is being supported by the club, then he's happy here. It would appear that the loan we have just taken out covers the running of the club for the season, so the possibility of 2.) seems reduced. However, there were whispers in the first few weeks of the season about us turning down a move for a player, so that might re-emerge, depending on where were are in the league. 3.) Is the big worry for me. Last season we had BS & LC scoring and when they stopped, so did our progress. We needed a 3rd striker to contribute this season, and instead we've still only got 2 goalscorers. LC needs to start scoring asap. If not, it might be sensible that we move squad players out in JTW to bring in a striker. Fulham got promoted by bringing in Mitrovic. Our trouble is that personality, team spirit & work ethic seem to be 75% of what CW & AK look for it a player, so they may not wish to bring in someone on loan that might rock the boat/upset the dressing room. I'm not suggesting that we can sign him, but i reckon if a championship gets Vincent Janssen from spurs in january they'll have mitrovicesque bounce.

I think your analysis is more closely aligned to last season than this .

1 ) Wilders clearly ambitious and any sign the board aren't going to back him could see his head being turned elsewhere . There's a distinct possibility that this may have been a lot closer to happening last season than any of us know . Last JTW many of us initially thought the signings we made were a sure sign of the board backing CW . But, and hindsights a wonderful thing here, the signings we did make clearly weren't an indication of CW being backed to the hilt in the transfer market .

2 ) It's a sad state of affairs but there's always a risk of our top players being sold . Whilst we'd all be quick to point out to the board that we should be telling all and sundry to ' get fucked ' when they sniff around any of our players reality tells us it's not quite as simple as that . Brooks is a classic case in point here . I have no doubt whatsoever that CW didn't want to sell him . I'm also reasonably certain that he was under no pressure to sell at boardroom level either ( get ready for a shit storm! ) . But once the players head was turned our only recourse was to get as much as we possibly could for him ( and here's another shit storm coming :D ) . Ultimately we are always under threat of this happening .

3 ) I think we'll make at least one, possibly two, BIG signings this January . It's here that I think the Brooks transfer will, paradoxically, benefit us in a very significant way .

Team bus crashes into a random spacecraft hovering over the wrong lane on the M1

Nobody gets injured but the entire squad disappears for about 7 months only to suddenly reappear again in May unable to remember who they are

The FA fine the club 7 billion pounds and relegate us for failing to honour our fixtures

There has to be something happen, there just has to be

Please see “Bramall Lane in Dr Who” thread, re imminent invasion by Darleks and Cybermen.
