What the others could have won...

Sheffield United ins:

Egan - Plenty would have paid 4M for him. Jury still out but let's wait.
Woodburn - most of the league would have creamed themselves to get him on loan.
Henderson - not quite the above but not far off.
McGoldrick - plenty would have like to snap him up on a free.
Bryan - dare I say that quite a few would also have taken a punt on a versatile young Man City academy player.

Outs:
Bar one mesmerizing and talented youngster, all players deemed surplus to requirement, or not good enough by many of the posters on here.

We have bought in some quality in. Just not enough, yet.

That’s got to be a piss take.

As I said, there's one or two I'd be interested in from most teams but the same could probably be said for the players we've signed. It's not a post criticising it's just a comparison really.

We sold our best prospect.

We have not brought in a single player better than those we already had.

Yet again, we have only spent a fraction of the money we have brought in.

Nobody in their right mind would spend anywhere near £4m on Egan.

Blackman is far better than Henderson. Stearman is better than Egan.

Our front line would struggle in L1. The fact we haven’t addressed that is unbelievable even by our standards.

McCabe seems intent on maintaining his record of overseeing the worst period in our history.

Wilder - after a great first 18 months - has lost the plot.

Fair do's mate, wasn't jumping on what you had posted. Just re enforcing your point that we have made some good signings too.

I'd say most clubs in the bottom half would have taken Egan, maybe Henderson. Most clubs would have probably taken Woodburn.

It does illustrate that a fair few clubs at our level are fishing in the waters of League 1 and 2 where we're no longer prepared to cast our rod. Whether it works for them or not is another matter but there are a fair few players on that list I'd have liked us to sign.

If this is the worst period in our history, the offending poster must be a ''HaslamPeters Denier'' ....
maybe they've been reading too much Irving?

I acknowledged the Brooks sale, read again. And noone is happy about him going including me. But Woodburn could be a better replacement, could be.

As for the rest....

You may not remember but Stearman was very shaky at first, he came good. 4M for an experienced Champ defender [and international] isn't extortionate, so I am convinced others would have paid it for Egan.

How on Earth you can say Jamal is better than Henderson after seeing 2 performances baffles me, but I will happily eat humble pie if you are right. We'll see.

Our front line scored about 35 goals in this league last season [I say about because I can't be arsed to check McGs tally but Clarke and Sharp got 30+ between them]. Yes we need another striker, NOBODY is denying that but don't write 3 experienced players of as duds after 2 games.

McCabe, yep he is hard to like.

Wilder, can we see how things turn out before deciding that? Granted he looks unhappy though.

Me too, and I also hope the League 1 and 2 shopping isn't done just yet. Foolish if it is. I suppose we could see Bryan as a player who has recent experience there though, just with a PL academy behind him.

We sold our best prospect. Can't deny that.

We have not brought in a single player better than those we already had. Egan not better than Wright, or Heneghan? McGoldrick not better than Hanson or Evans?

Yet again, we have only spent a fraction of the money we have brought in. True

Nobody in their right mind would spend anywhere near £4m on Egan. Yet some say we won't paying the going rate for Championship players - we'll see

Blackman is far better than Henderson. Stearman is better than Egan. That is a very bold statement after 2 games, I really hope you are wrong.

Our front line would struggle in L1. The fact we haven’t addressed that is unbelievable even by our standards. This is just plain daft- look at the stats from last year and the supposed interest in Clarrke where people were worried we would sell in January.

McCabe seems intent on maintaining his record of overseeing the worst period in our history. Nah sorry, I've seen us in the 4th with a crap stadium etc.

Wilder - after a great first 18 months - has lost the plot. ATM it's hard to judge.

Apart from that a well written assessment.

So have I. We bounced back as champions and spent less time outside the top 2 divisions than we did under McCabe. And the kop is still crap. Nice hotel though. Thanks Kev.

Other than Bristol City. None of them teams listed above brought in any players better than ours

And the rest of the reply - I take it you agree.

You are also living in a bygone era where crowd sizes determined income and generally success - it's all so much different now. I'm not denying that I want better, but unless someone walks in who's a billionaire I think we need to adjust our expectations.

Bristol City also arguably sold their best 3 players during the window - they must have had a right meltdown.

This feels like an absolutely huge overreaction . In terms of not brining in a single player better than we already had, I strongly disagree:
Ben Woodburn: Generally plays ahead of David Brooks in the Wales set up, despite being several years younger. He's also made appearances for Liverpool, and some felt he might get a chance on the bench this season. Make no mistake, that's a big capture, one most championship clubs would love.

Egan. Captain of a very decent championship side, international and a good age. £4m doesn't buy much in this day and age, so I don't feel ripped off. Sure he's had a shakey start, but Fleck and JOC have had poor srarts: Are they suddenly not worth owt? Or does that rule not apply when their career success is with us?

Henderson: A very highly rated young keeper, coming to us more highly regarded then Blackman last season. Sure he won't dominate the box like Blackman, on account of him not being 18ft 4. But he's a good shot stopper and will play a part.

Mcgoldrick. He's a free, the replacement for Donaldson and I'd argue an upgrade on him.

I do agree we needed further investment and that we've left ourselves worryingly short up top. But the loan window still has 3 weeks to run. If in that time we can bring in a couple more options up top, then I think it's been a decent window.

Two poor performances had clouded the judgement. Suddenly the squad is nowhere near good enough, where a couple of weeks ago, we were only a couple of a strikers away from being really strong. Fans are a funny and fickle bunch, but I'm keeping the faith. We will bring in at least one more loan signing, Egan will prove his worth and we'll be fine.

It's incredible to me that the same people who wrote off Coutts, Clarke, Freeman and others, can so easily write off players after two games despite being massively rated elsewhere.

It's genuinely weird behaviour.

Finish the job, where's Derby, Leeds, Middlesbrough, Villa et al?

Who else has brought in players that are any good?

Sorry, forgot to respond.

Both in terms of good enough now and potential:

Blackburn - Kasey Palmer and Adam Armstrong

Millwall - Jiri Skalak and Murray Wallace
Preston - Ryan Ledson and Lukas Nmecha
Reading - Andy Yiadom and Sam Baldock
Wigan - Cedric Kipre, Josh Windass and Antonee Robinson

Obviously, there's no guarantee that players will make the step up or perform on loan etc.
