Would we have done better with our initial shortlist, or our current squad?

At the start of last summer Richard Cadette (RIP, long may he reign) mentioned our initial transfer targets as:
- Neal Maupay.
- Kalvin Philips,
- Joe Allen
- Daniel James

As well as getting Henderson back on loan.

If we had managed to sign these guys (plus our freebies and loans) instead of the players we did splash the cash on - do you think we’d be in a better or worse position than we are in now?

I don't want Maupay he chose Brighton and I think Mousset will turn out better over time.
James I do like but we were never going to beat Man U for his signature.
Not sure how good the other 2 are.

Really? Personally, I would be suprised if Moose is still with us by the end of next season.

Agree. Ironically, he seems to have lost his hunger. Mousset vs Man United at home versus Mousset in his cameos now. Two different blokes.

I can't see further than the legends we've got now but I think Philips especially would have bought into it and been a success. They all would actually so I don't know. Apparently the Man United fans are not that keen on James these days, he's just good at running and not much else.

I suspect Philips and/or Allen would have been berge alternatives to be honest. And while I rate Phillips (them both really) I’m happy we have sander long term.

I can’t really see James playing in our system, similar to Callum Robinson really and I think he might have found chances a little more limited .

I wouldn’t have minded Maupay to be honest, but I’m not sure how many extra points he would have got us compared to our current forward rotation.

overall, we’ve not really left many points on the board-andI the season has gone about as well as it could.

It's a tough call, but I'd go for the current crop. Whilst Maupay has done better at Brighton than Moose has here, that's not to say he would have replicated the same form, if he had joined us. Maybe he would caused some upset in the dressing room.

As you can tell, I'm very much in the butterfly causing a tornado camp.

I'll be surprised if Moose is still with us at the end of this summer.
Unless we discover a way to change his stamina & attitude.

Maupay was the alternative to McB , not Moose.

Are you sure? As type of players they are nothing alike. I see Maupay as a faster younger Sharp. McBurnie more of an aerial threat and possible target man.

He was the alternative to be our number 9, even if they're a lot different.

I properly took a shine to Moose right from the get-go.

His mad hair & his big infectious grin had me liking him before a ball was kicked.
Then he went on that amazing run and he looked like he could do everything except head a ball horizontally.

Plus he looked so bloody happy, whether he was scoring or assisting he looked like Carol Smilie on Ecstasy.

But since xmas he’s had a face like a smacked arse the whole time, even after scoring or assisting. I know he had two bereavements, but its such a big change in attitude I feel like there is more to it.
IF he can get his head right (and its a big if) then I think we’ll be singing about the lad for a long time.
If not then I’d like Karlan Grant to replace him, please and thank you.

I like Moose, agree we've only seen glimpses. Want him to stay and crack on, he's not just fast he's a goal maker and has a powerful shot.
Anybody at Hallam pre- season saw it. I think many of us are waiting for him to fire on all cylinders and know he has it in him.

McBurnie > Maupay
Berge > Phillips
Callum Robinson < Dan James
Ben Osborn > Joe Allen

I don't think that's a perfect like-for-like as transfers never really work out that way, but that's as close as it gets probably. 3-1 victory for "our current beautiful boys" OCBB FC.

I had a look at this lad earlier (yes Youtube) and he's not that impressive though neither was Watkins although Watkins gets into the box which is where we score most goals.

This does make me look like I'm just dismissing all the suggestions at the moment but it's better to get somebody up to standard than just add numbers.
ie Much rather keep Robinson (who I didn't initially want) than either of Watkins or Grant.

I think Moose still has a better goals per minutes than Maupay fwiw.
