I think wilders recruitment below the prem stands up well so I’m optimistic that the recruitment this summer will be good if the funds are available.

I think where wilders recruitment falls down is signing players to make an immediate impact at this level. A fair amount of players who came up with us through the leagues are good enough to play at this level and the ones signed this year are showing signs of real improvement. I think as a club we back ourselves to improve players we’ve done it fairly consistently so if he comes up with a group that’s got a lower average age that could be kept together for 4-5 years I’d like to see what he’d do with that.

I can’t begin to work out what’s going on behind the scenes but I think Wilder seems to have made it clear that he wants to buy young English players but we don’t have the funds to be able to compete on that level. The last two transfer windows have been proof of that.

Obviously Villa weren’t stealing all our signings but I think it was pretty obvious we were searching in the same pool and we couldn’t compete. It’s why I couldn’t agree when Roy Keane said we were taking a gamble on the best players in the Championship, when in reality we aren’t. We can only afford to pick the upper mid-table type players and hope they come good for us.

If we had the season we have had this season last season it would have been very disappointing but not a surprise as nobody apart from Jags had any real PL experience which is why we brought him into the squad
We obviously over achieved last season and that probably masked the deficiencies within our squad
If / when we get promoted back to the PL and want to stay there, there will need to be a re think on the recruitment side of things obviously the foreign market but also the wage structure of the club
The other option is what Norwich are doing and what West Brom have done in being a yo yo club

There was plenty of people saying we ought to sign a striker and Brewster was the one identified
At the time it was supposed to be a loan but Liverpool moved the goalposts at the very end of the transfer window so it was fork out £20m or miss out on the player. So it went from a loan fee to a full blown transfer and the financial outlay was obviously a lot more
I do think this probably had a damaging effect on our ability to sign other players but then again I might be totally wrong

Liverpool certainly had our pants down on this one

We honestly don't have anyone else, we could open up a bit, but with a back three that's basically league one standard, I can see why we wouldn't. He's ballsed up by leaving us short in terms of cover, but with the entire defence out injured and most of the back up, we're left with no one else to cover.
Osborn isn't great in midfield, even on his preferred side, and every other fucker is injured.

It's an interesting question I reckon. Obviously it would be unusual to sack a manager that got promoted. Most fans would want him to stay, no doubt riding the wave of positivity that a promotion would bring. However, things would have to be significantly different to this time round. Our tactics, our approach to recruitment. Would CW be the best guy for another assault on the PL?

Wilder won’t get us promoted ever again. He’ll be elsewhere.
