When all players are fit, available (and not banned). What do you feel the best eleven is (on a good day)? Thought this might provoke some good debate. I will start;

(4-4-2 from right to left)

Paddy Kenny
Kyle Walker
Chris Morgan
Matt Kilgallon
Gary Naysmith
Jamie Ward
Lee Williamson
James Harper
Stephen Quinn
Darius Henderson
Henri Camara

I'd go with that, but swap Harper for Monty.

Kenny
Walker--Morgan--Kilgallon--Naysmith
Montgomery
Harper----Williamson
Camara----------------------Ward
Evans

Go on then...

Assuming all available:

Paddy
Walker
Killa
Morgs
Naysmith
Harper
Williamson
Ward
Evans
Henderson
Camara

This is using a wildly unrealistic 4-2-4 formation assuming we're playing a team like Barrow at home.

Our best players, but not our most effective team.

A proper left winger (which we won't get) and Evans in for Henderson and that team is the same as mine.

Yeh I agree we need a proper left winger, I like Quinny but he lacks pace.

Really?! You would swap Henderson for Evans??? Each to their own but Henderson is a must for me. We struggle for any presence in attack without him. Evans has yet to prove anything IMO.

Some interesting opinions on this from everyone though.

I would go with:

----------- Bunn --------------
Walker - Morgs - Killa - Naysmith
Ward -- Harper -- Willo -- Quinn
------- Evans - Camra ---------

Paddy when he isn't banned.

Based on this I think the only place we really need to strengthen is the wings.
As if either of the front 2 are out Ward would go up there and although Quinn has been better of late he isn't good enough for us.
Little is good but hasn't got the legs for it - could be better utilised as a holding midlefielder to control the game (the McCall / Speed role).
Reid could maybe do the job but KB won't let us see him.

Yep. Nothing against Henderson as such but, to me, when he plays we resort all too easily to "The Hoof". Much rather have some mobility up front and a midfield who are looking to, and are capable of, playing to feet.

Evans has indeed much to prove but I'm not giving up on him yet!

Hey, My First Post.

Id go 4-3-3 - But not the defensive one!!

Kenny

Walker Morgan Killgallon Naysmith

Williamson Montgomery Harper

Ward Henderson Camara

Quite Attacking, But, Strong Defence with Monty Sitting. 2 quick players playing off Hendo.

Quinn, Evans, Cresswell, Little, Seip, Reid, Bennett on bench.

I'd swap Harper for Monty and I know he hasn't really played but Reid in for Quinn.

------------Bunn-----------
Walker---Morgan---Kilgallon---Naysmith
Ward--Monty/Harper-Williamson---Reid
-----Henderson--Camara----------

Bennett, Seip, Geary, Quinn, Little, Creswell, Evans

I've gone for what I think could be our most effective team, even though a few might question the inclusion of a couple of players.

The defence picks itself in my opinion, and the midfield pairing has to be Williamson with either Montgomery or Harper, depending on the opposition and whether we're at home or away.

If we're going to play Henderson up front, we need two out and out wingers getting crosses in for him to be fully effective and score goals, which is why I've picked Reid and Ward.

I think the ability Camara has is undoubted. He could feed off Henderson well, and also be a good poacher, so that's why I've picked him over Evans.

I'd say that team could get us actually playing some attractive football. It might not always be amazing passing, but it could bring a nice mix of attacking flair and directness that could cause problems.

Completely agree with all that mate.

i notice our latest signing just about scrapes the bench for a few selections.

"You know what you get with Richard - it is 100% every time he turns out and his knowledge of this division makes him an important presence for us."

I'd rather have brought in another youngster from the divisions below us (like ward) who you might just get a surprise from. Not someone you know will never be man of the match, will never beat his man and get a decent cross in as a winger and will win around 1 in 10 headers when played up front.

Ashame its just a pipe dream.

[Cresswell is]...someone you know will never be man of the match, will never beat his man and get a decent cross in as a winger and will win around 1 in 10 headers when played up front.

You know for sure he will never be man of the match and never beat his man (whoever "his man" may be). You know this for certain? So basically he's being judged for things he is yet to do, or not do. There's nothing like giving him a chance is there? Might as well hang him now. Unless you can see into the future, in which case I'll have next week's lottery numbers please. And if they don't win I'll not be a happy bunny.

My assumptions are founded on his own career to date and what I've seen of him for other clubs over the years and for us up to now.

He's 32 now, it's been 5 years since anyone paid any money for him. In total he's raked in total transfer fees of £3m throughout his career, hardly much considering he's a striker who has played for 8 different clubs in his career.

He has now had 13 seasons in his career, two of which were full seasons in the premier league where he scored a total of 3 goals over the entire 2 seasons. It's also been 5 years since he scored more than 7 goals in a season, in fact he's only managed to get into double figures in 4 out of the 13 full seasons he's played in, failing to score more than 4 goals in 8 out of those 13 seasons.

The idea that some have that he may turn out to be the force Shipperley was for us in the promotion season is misaligned in my view, we needed someone to do the role he did for us and he worked well. At the moment we don't need Cresswell, we're leaving out players who are better than him on the wing or up front, we'll be paying him decent money - my guess is at least what Treacy would be on and quite possibly Cotterill.

Anyway, suffice to say my best starting 11 wouldn't include him! :-)

Players in at the moment if fit and available:

Kenny
Walker Kilgallon Morgan Naysmith
Williamson Montgomery Quinn
Ward Evans Camara/Sharp

Although I do think Harper could take over from Quinn if he was anywhere near able to play to his potential. I'd like to see us sign a few additional players to bulk up the squad - at least one cb, a decent gk on a permanent deal, a midfielder who can take over from Quinn depending on which Quinn turns up and a striker who could offer similiar to camara but play more than a game a fortnight if what KB talks is anywhere near the truth in regards to him. Or preferably play Sharp although I understand we may have done a deal that says we can't recall him (how many other clubs end up getting burnt so regularly by transfer dealings).

Whilst I know the arguments we've all had about our style I still firmly believe that the way we play doesn't suit most of our players and we should change it not just to suit one player like sharp but to suit most of them. It doesn't need to be trying to pass it around for 15 mins with cheers and mexican waves in the stands but we should be capable of doing better in this league if we start playing balls for ward to run onto, playing it into Evans feet, giving Monty the option of two midfielders actively working hard and offering themselves for the ball when he has it and heaven forbid rolling it out to the fullbacks that we have who are actually pretty decent at this level rather than the keeper trying to reach the other keeper all game.

The minimal amount of debate on this thread suggests that our squad is rather thin on quality. Come on, argue damn it!

That pretty much sums it up mate, we're very short on quality. It makes me wonder how we've got one of the highest wage bills in the league...
