My assumptions are founded on his own career to date and what I've seen of him for other clubs over the years and for us up to now.
He's 32 now, it's been 5 years since anyone paid any money for him. In total he's raked in total transfer fees of £3m throughout his career, hardly much considering he's a striker who has played for 8 different clubs in his career.
He has now had 13 seasons in his career, two of which were full seasons in the premier league where he scored a total of 3 goals over the entire 2 seasons. It's also been 5 years since he scored more than 7 goals in a season, in fact he's only managed to get into double figures in 4 out of the 13 full seasons he's played in, failing to score more than 4 goals in 8 out of those 13 seasons.
The idea that some have that he may turn out to be the force Shipperley was for us in the promotion season is misaligned in my view, we needed someone to do the role he did for us and he worked well. At the moment we don't need Cresswell, we're leaving out players who are better than him on the wing or up front, we'll be paying him decent money - my guess is at least what Treacy would be on and quite possibly Cotterill.
Anyway, suffice to say my best starting 11 wouldn't include him!
Players in at the moment if fit and available:
Kenny
Walker Kilgallon Morgan Naysmith
Williamson Montgomery Quinn
Ward Evans Camara/Sharp
Although I do think Harper could take over from Quinn if he was anywhere near able to play to his potential. I'd like to see us sign a few additional players to bulk up the squad - at least one cb, a decent gk on a permanent deal, a midfielder who can take over from Quinn depending on which Quinn turns up and a striker who could offer similiar to camara but play more than a game a fortnight if what KB talks is anywhere near the truth in regards to him. Or preferably play Sharp although I understand we may have done a deal that says we can't recall him (how many other clubs end up getting burnt so regularly by transfer dealings).
Whilst I know the arguments we've all had about our style I still firmly believe that the way we play doesn't suit most of our players and we should change it not just to suit one player like sharp but to suit most of them. It doesn't need to be trying to pass it around for 15 mins with cheers and mexican waves in the stands but we should be capable of doing better in this league if we start playing balls for ward to run onto, playing it into Evans feet, giving Monty the option of two midfielders actively working hard and offering themselves for the ball when he has it and heaven forbid rolling it out to the fullbacks that we have who are actually pretty decent at this level rather than the keeper trying to reach the other keeper all game.
