Poor lad seems to be trying to run midfield, right side, score goals and we would be better off if he did a stint in net. Was making him captain best for his game? Him and Clarke don't seem to fit together so far. What was up with Clarke after we scored? Wouldn't get back in our half and appeared to be arguing about formation.

Commin back at corners, first man, and heading the ball away

Chrissy, leave 2 up

Trying to make us compress, so we could actually pressure the ball from kick off, rather than running round it like we did. Tactically, he appears to be a level above the majority of the others. Only Sharp and O'Connell seem on his level for awareness.

I thought Sharp was poor 1st half, although every player seemed poor.
He tried hard but seemed sluggish, always heavily marked and looking for the foul.

Never question his commitment and he did improve the last 15 minutes.

Never thought he should be captain, still don't. Sharp did today what he's good at and should be appreciated for - getting us out of the shit with a goal. Caught offside time after time but you always know he only needs to beat it once and he's through. For me, a captain should be a central defender or midfielder where they naturally have a more involved role in organisation and won't drop out of the action of a game.

It wasn't quite there today in terms of partnership though I expect Sharp and Clarke will complement each other very well as the season goes on. Not surprised to see Clarke get a bit mardy, he's always come across that way when he's played against us. To an extent I'm happy to see it as players need to be told when the service is poor or that they should be moving for his flicks. Done will run all day without a complaint, and that's great, it's just sometimes you need a bit of arrogance telling the rest to step it up. You could see Clarke moaning at Done in the first half when he called for the chest down and then ran past him.

I have no concerns about those front two. It's some of the others that I have major problems with. Rochdale came out positively, made a real game of it, but ultimately it's a game we should have won and haven't because one of our key positions simply isn't up to it.

To put the ball In the net, which he did.

Said this before, but you listen to fans of essentially every club that doesn't have a striker in the top five scorers and they'll all be saying the same thing "What we need is a guy who puts the ball in the net". And that's Billy. I'd be shocked if he didn't bag at least fifteen this season, and that's huge for any team.

As in the previous times back, he's trying too hard. I don't think Wilder should have given him the Captaincy as I feel he is a better player without having the 'burden' of having to lead the team......Personally I see him as a goalscorer without pressure rather than a leader.......unfortunately I can't see an alternative within the current squad....the team is screaming out for a leader allez McCall, Brown, Morgan.

....."What we need is a guy who puts the ball in the net". And that's Billy.

Agreed, but is the responsibility of the captaincy detracting from the role?

Probably not. Didn't exactly see him do much organising or motivating. Just seemed to be doing his usual thing.

Clarke was mardy? Good, he was probably sick of watching the same shifts that the rest of us were. I am so despondent after that match. Roll on Tuesday to cheer me up.

ditto - still cross now - can't believe what I saw today after all the good quality verbal's from CW pre season.

utterly clueless today, and the most disheartening of all - I can't really see where we can get better.

Good luck Wilder - you got them in on Sunday? - you should do after that today.

Happy to give CW every opportunity, if half of what he says is replicated on the pitch. I am so 100% behind him. But it being my first match of the season I was actually quite shocked at how clueless the whole thing was.

I thought it was clueless v Derby in pre season - CW thought it was ok.

Since then we've lost to Bolton, Crewe and nearly to Rochdale.

Clueless is great.......been using it since about 3:20 this afternoon
