Hmm, my prediction if promotion isn't achieved is that we won't go up nor play in the Premier League next season. 🤔

By then, as things stand, the only players we'll have under contract will be:

Bogle
Egan
Lowe
Berge
Brewster
Ndiaye
RND
Jebbison?

and most of those will be in the last year.
 
I'm off to find a new team.
I simply won't accept United not being in the the prem.

The club also has a year option on Mousse
 
why would we meltdown we get parachute payments
we get 25 k plus gates
we have a third of the squad whose contracts end in June 22 so can severely cut the wage bill
we have saleable assets on the park

yes we aint got a barrel of money. but we never had

Olsens shit , flat footed and doesn't want to be here..
Baldock- he's wank and can't cross a ball
Enda - nothing like he was and can't cross a ball
Egan- way too slow
Davies- rubbish and ponderous weak in the tackle and no strength in the jump
Osborn- not a quality player runs around a lot but does fuck all
Norwood- total crap can't beat first man, and players just ghost past him
Fleck- Not had a decent game for 2 years and is anonymous every game
Didsy- got it all but got nothing because can't put it in fro 2 inches
Sharp- too old and can only score penalties way too weak
MGW- he's alright
Ndayie- Can see the talent but gets forced off the ball way too easily
Berge- 23 million not worth 2..

MCB and Brewdog- Utter shite can't even break into this team of no hopers..

I think what is the most scary thing is the sheer number of players on the last year of their contracts now. There is definitely potential for a disaster.

The problem is many of these players are either too old to justify a 2+ year contract but are too involved to just let go (unless the younger players start winning their place!) or aren't involved enough but have too much resale value to let go for free.

Out of these there's only 2x definite keeps, and thats Osborn and Baldock IMO

and then of course we won't keep our Loan players, and inevitably sell Berge

Which means our 1st team will be (cough) interesting...

Always makes me laugh how everyone criticises AFTER the event but at the time agree with the decisions.

Permenent signings are for the long term but we have a temporary financial advantage so we need to use that advantage.
This season we have wisely used the loan system to target highly paid PL standard players.

Wonder if we’ll try for Amad Diablo again. He’s not going to play any matches at Man Utd.

Regards the OP question.
What happens if we fail to gain promotion.
Surely the answer is obvious…we gradually down size and prepare to downsize the season after too.
Note: We still receive PL money for a further 2 seasons.
and there’s no financial melt down because the owners have ensured we;re financially secure by giving the big money to loanees.

You make a number of great points there, apart from the one about merging with the pigs, which is a steaming pile of wank.
 
I'd like us to smash the league next season, winning it at a canter, scoring loads of goals then tell the Premier league thanks but no thanks we will decline their promotion and stay in the championship then win the championship the season after again and once again tell them to knickers we are staying put, and so on and so on. All the time racking up more and more championship winners trophies for our sparce trophy cabinet. Not sure how the prize money situation would work but money isn't everything, its all about the glory.
