Having been on my jollies, I’m yet to see us play a competitive game this season. I was eagerly awaiting the start of the season, full of optimism only for it to be sapped by that 4-0 thumping at Gillingham. Couple that with the pigs winning. It felt like it was gonna be another long hard season.
I listened to the Morecambe game and whilst we won, it seemed the performance was not at the level of a promotion contender in league 1.
Then we sell Murphy and it seems like the world is ending. Nearly all my pre-season optimism and positivity is gone and I wonder who is going to beat a man to create a chance. We’ve sold our best player (bar the injured Brayford) for the 5th? Season running despite hearing how we don’t need to sell anymore and that Murphy was settled in Sheffield, signed a new deal etc.
We then go and beat Chesterfield but by all accounts, weren’t entirely convincing. But the defence looks more solid with Edgar in it and Adams steps up to the plate as the Murphy replacement. Some optimism and positivity starts to return. We’re up and running.
I then hear that we’re linked with Carayol and Turner. If we get those 2 in, the squad is looking pretty strong on paper.
Then last night I listen to us beat Peterborough and it sounds like this time, it was a convincing performance in which we looked a threat every time we went forward. Sharp, Sammon, Adams and Campbell Ryce all seemed like they were threatening throughout.
Now, the positivity is coming flooding back and I can’t wait for Saturday. Blackpool are entirely beatable. If we can get the job done, it will be 9 points from a possible 12 (an average that would take us to over 100 points over the course of a season) and we’ll be right up there. It would also be great to see Billy get his first goal since his return after he was by all accounts very good last night. Roll on Saturday. Let’s keep the feelgood factor alive. If we can stay in a strong position whilst also having arguably the division’s best player still to return from injury (along with the likes of Flynn, Kennedy, Harris and Done), we can be very hopeful.
