Away day for me still March 1992 swillboro Bibby Davison became a legend sat high up in their North stand with a pack of blades what a night
Still my favourite derby game and I didn't go! Excuse was I was 11 and from a non footballing family! I can vivedly remember being glued to Teletext and when it updated with the goals for us it was one of the happiest days of my life!

Favourite away game for me - Birmingham City Boxing day about 2000, Devlin scored, think it was 2 - 0. One of my flat mates was a Bluenose and I pushed a photo of Devlin under his door when I got back to the flat a few days later! It had to be Dev didn't it!

Leicester beats Darlington hands-down for me. At Darlo we knew we were up and it was just a bit of a carnival. Leicester there was a real feeling we could balls it up, so to go up in style, AND the one combination of results that could have seen Wednesday go down come to fruition, was just unreal. It was to be the first time I'd known us in the top-flight, we hadn't even been in the same division as Wednesday since the season of the Boxing Day Massacre, yet here we were leapfrogging them. A wonderful, wonderful day.

(Fortress as it was known in those days) Anfield, Good Friday 1968 Liverpool 1 Sheffield United 2 in our relegation season, followed by a lift back to Sheffield on the team coach.

;)

Palace away last season is up there. My mate works for a brewery and lives nearby, and it was his birthday, so we had a keg beforehand. It was Sander’s first game and it was an absolute carnival in the ground.

in terms of the football, Norwich away in the promotion season made us look like we’d go up, then last season looked like we’d stay up. Nice day out at Wolves last season too.

But for the football, surely the 5-3 at Wembley. Flew back from a stag do for it, almost slept past my flight but made it and staggered into the ground not expecting much. We were so close.

Bobby Davison night March March 1992, one of the best, but certainly the most poignant for me.

My Granddad was the Blades 'Don' of our family and the reason we're all red and white. He died the Sunday before this match, and it made the result even more special for us.

It was his funeral the very next morning. For a bit of light relief, the Priest sidled up to me after the burial at Rivelin and whispered to me ' I'm glad Chris Woods wasn't carrying the coffin'.

Darlo,
Leicester 5-2,
Lincoln 0-2 1983
Special mention....Leeds away (1-2 1985...had to make it to station on us own cos we missed the police escort. Was like The Warriors).

Darlington was great, but oddly really enjoyed Halifax away in 82. Wall collapsing, kettled at train station, losing early.
Goodness, that was an away day and a half. The ground was in in such bad shape, wooden benches...amazing

Stockport away in the late 90's. Shit place, shit match, shit result. What made it one of my best memories was after the match where everyone was crowding round a few portable radios trying to figure out if the results elsewhere put us in the play-offs. You don't get with today's mobile phones. They don't know they're born.

It should also be mentioned that I had some of the finest fish and chips I've ever eaten, surpassed only by a trip to Grimsby, a game which isn't worth mentioning at all.

Recently Hull away was a good night before and day ... we turned up for once ,and things went our way ... great watching it unfold and the train trip home was classic

For me, it’s Darlington. I was working in North Shields at the time and persuaded a good friend of mine (ardent Toon supporter) to come along for the day. He was so bloody miserable on the way there about having to give up his Saturday to watch some ‘lower league shite’ in Darlington of all places (which all Newcastle dwellers believe is the final stopping off place before you sail over the River Styx.)

I kid you not, his jaw dropped from the moment we arrived and I don’t think it has reset itself to this day. Beer blurred memories but it was a bit like playing on Handsworth rec. Fred Flintstone, Humpty Dumpty, the Mad Hatter, numerous Keystone Cops outfits to name but a few out of a cast of 1000s and a carnival atmosphere that would put Rio to shame (the city not the ex Man Utd player!) I don’t think they bothered with a final whistle but by the end my Toon mate was deliriously dancing on the pitch with the rest of us. What a day

in our advancing years the passion for football persists even if the desire admittedly is fading for the rigours of away day travel. Every time I go up to Newcastle to see him, talk will always turn to football and, without fail, he will smile wistfully after a few pints, shake his head in disbelief and utter the immortal words “Remember Darlington....”

I think other people have covered the bases here with the classic matches, but one that sticks in my memory for sentimental reasons was Reading away in, I think, 2009.

My recollection might not be spot on, but I think it was Good Friday and we played knowing a win would move us up to 2nd before other teams played. Brian Howard scored in a 1-0 win. I don't really remember the game, but the feeling was immense.

A few months earlier, my Grandad had died and I had always gone to matches with him and my Grandma. This was her first away game since he'd died and the feeling of pure joy that promotion was on at the full time whistle is something I'll never forget. And then we played Burnley at Wembley...

Obvious
Leicester, Darlington, Bouncing Day, Billy Davison Day, the wins at Bellend Road last twice we have played them and the 4-0 gave me immense pleasure, Arsenal Semi, Hull Semi

Others not so obvious
The 6-1 at Cardiff Woody got 4 I think, went on train plenty of beer their boyos were not happy bunnys after that
Another game at Cardiff we won pissed it down Edwards scored
Brighton away snowing in Sheffield, like a Summers day in Brighton
Strangely the 1-0 win at Hartlepool when Ched scored a pen great day out with Shred and when we got back to Sheffield

Norwich 1976 I think it was tony kenworthys debut, the blades were already relegated. I was just turned 18 and went down on the coach it got us there just in time for the pubs opening. We all went in a pub near the ground needless to say this young pup couldn't handle the ale and got bladdered. I seem to remember there cop was shared and things got a bit heated at times. Unbelievably the blades won 3-1 to really round off a memorable day.

I remember that as Reading were a proper bogey team up until that game. Was a fantastic atmosphere, there are loads over the years but another one from the same season Blackpool away on a Tuesday night when Beattie equalised from about 35 yards out with a few minutes to go just after they took the lead was a quality game. Also that free kick away at Burnley too.

Sheffield Wednesday 4-2 for me. I’m not old enough to have had the luck of Darlington / Leicester etc however my Dad says the night after both of those games was the best he's ever had signing blades songs in town

Has to be the Darlington carnival for me. I couldn't go to Leicester, if i had, who knows? But Darlo will live with me until my dying day.
