Darlington was great, but oddly really enjoyed Halifax away in 82. Wall collapsing, kettled at train station, losing early.

As others have already mentioned Darlington was a special day. I used to go on the special trains on my own that season as most of my mates weren’t into football. My favourite night was away at Peterborough we never shut up especially the ‘Sheffield United, Sheffield United.....’ chant that went on for ages.

Leicester was special no doubt about it, but I'm with you on this one Darlington was an awesome experience for United and the fans. IMS crowd was 11,101 and I'd say 101 were Darlo fans, no doubt Silent will pull me up lol, fans dressed as players one lad dressed as a reight fat bloke dancing on the pitch happy days.

I can’t see Leicester ever being beaten. To go up to what is now the PL on the last day - and the pigs to get relegated the same day - was beyond belief. The 5-2 win, incredible support and a hot sunny day just added to the perfection.

I think Darlo just about edges it but I've had lots of other great away days too.

First ever away win. Oldham, I think it was 0-1 or 1-2 around Boxing day late 70's. We were on an open end & the rain/sleet was continual, but the coach trip home was great!

Different games, for different reasons..

First away game vs Man City at Maine Road on Boxing day 1992. I was 13. A 2-0 defeat. Just remember the hostility and then the noise when they scored. The noise was so different.

First away game taking my lad. Aston Villa 3-3. Was an amazing 80 minutes... But seeing his face etc. I'll never forget.

Any trip to Grimsby on the train - beer and fish and chips..

Some of the league one campaign - Bury, Rochdale, Bristol Rovers, Swindon and Oxford spring to mind.

The 3 excursions I did with Shred (Derby, Leicester and Liverpool League cup semi). All great days out.

I've been corporate at Burton, Sunderland and Man City. All great experiences.

Any time we win away and I'm there. Was once banned by my "mates" to go away as they always lost when I went. Nicknamed BLB (Bad Luck B******) for a long time after.

All great memories. I hope my lad has the same.

It would have to be the two cup games in the clough season 2014.Villa for the incredible noise from the blades and winning the game.
And Fulham for the injury time winner and a day in London on the pop.

Other notable mentions for the Wednesday away game April fools 2001.
Wedndnesday away 06 akinbiyi and tongue screamers.

Also Everton away last season.Absolute smash and grab and brilliant weather.

Fulham away in the Cup a few years ago with the 120th minute winner. Caught the free bus down, and met my Dad and cousin for a couple of beers beforehand. Then tube strike, so buses into town and then beers + Chinese in Soho.

Peterborough away has had some recent fun ones. The Adkins year the match co-incided with the local CAMRA beer festival, so was rather pre-cooked before the game, and then of course the Sharp winner in the promotion year was absolutely mental! A long day with the London Blades.

Shout outs for numerous Millwall trips, with generous hospitality at FourPure, and Southend away when I nearly broke Blackheath Blade 's back.

Darlington was like an LSD trip. So much fancy dress, so much beer, a surreal match (sat on the bloody pitch before fulltime Imagine that today!

BUT I was in my late teens and very very drunk so I remember hardly anything.

Leicester - ah now that's a different story, old enough now to hold a few jars, remember every detail and the joy at hearing the Pigs had been relegated even after the stadium announcer had told them they were safe - priceless. It was about 200 degrees, almost got my head kicked in as their fans started pouring into the upper tier, but emerged unscathed. Driving back into Sheffield seeing Pigs sat on the kerbside crying. Superb day.

I didnt go to Darlo, I was a part timer between 1979 and 1987

Darlington, I was told I couldn't go by my old man and uncles, they came out with I wasn't old enough, the bastards, In other words they didn't want a 12yr old tagging along when they wanted a day on the piss. I heard all about it for years. Until Leicester...

Leicester I was there, what a day and night, I realized that night why they didn't want me around when they went to Darlington. I had my own memories and stories to tell, My old man was a little jealous, he went to Leicester but didn't have the same night I had

Yep great away day, one that sticks in the memory because so many things attached to it, before, during and after the game for me.

True story, me and a mate had a bet on 3-2 blades win, we got 100/1, when we went 2-2 we went ballistic, thought the bet was coming in, we planned a week off work unofficially of course , the winnings were going to cover our wages for a week going out on piss and a £200 pound fine I had got. But we lost 3-2 and still had to find the 200 quid for the fine.

like I said, a lot of things that happened were connected to that game and bring back memories, but that's another story.

 

[Crafty Blade]

Cardiff away and promotion to the Prem under Warnock. Stopped in Bristol for a few nights (as did a fair few Blades) with our game being on Good Friday. The day after when Leeds failed to win, we were officially up, and we had a good celebration in Bristol, which is a brilliant city for pubs. Great, 4-day bender that one.

The Northampton away day was the first time I'd seen us win anything in the ground, at the time it happened, so that was special, as was getting back to Sheffield and that party on Bramall Lane, waiting for the team bus to get back, will live long in the memory. Stoke away 2 seasons later ended the same way on Bramall Lane with the street blocked by fans and the convenience store shelves stripped of beer. Two amazing days.

Bristol City away last game of the 2017/18 season sticks out, again a weekend on the beers in Bristol, and given it was an early Sunday morning kick off I think most Blades had stopped over, been on it all night and were topping up... never seen such a pissed up away end, with goals raining in in the sunshine, nothing really mattering just enjoying life.
