maybe we can be abit overreacting because i would say any bottom half team would struggle with the run of fixtures that we have had between 27th aug & 28th oct & it was always going to be tough. brentford would be under simliar pressure. if they play 5 champions league quality team & west ham who won a european trophy in 8 games.
Hear this excuse quite alot.
Agree even average teams would struggle to pick up results in the matches we've had.
Ironically if you just judge us in results, then it doesn't look too bad, narrow defeats to most teams, then a disastrous record 8-0 defeat.
However instead of over reacting, forget the results and look at the performances.
If you look at the % possession, number of shots, number of shots on target and corner stats, then we are miles away from PL standard.
We struggle to make simple 5 yard passes to feet and hardly keep any possession, so for long spells the defence are under constant pressure
Basically the results look decent but we're struggling to compete.
Whenever a team loses 6-0 or 7-0 etc it's usually a case of every shot went in, so there's an element of luck.
However what hasn't been mentioned regards the Newcastle defeat was we were slightly lucky with their missed chances.
On another day they win 10-0 or 11-0 and there's no way even a league 2 team would lose by that scoreline.
Our starting tactic seems to be to pack defence and keep the score down.
Hopefully keep it 0-0 for the latter stages, then pinch a 1-0 win.
The irony is Hecky went more positive against Newcastle and it backfired terribly.
Even at half time when 3-0, think he thought we may as well go even more positive but in retrospect he should have gone more defensive.
Can understand the pragmatism but that's how a league 2 side playing a PL side in the cup would approach a game.
Opposition fans consistently say we're a kick and rush side trying to spoil a game and time waste.
Maybe their exaggerating a little but you can see where they're coming from.
I'm hoping we transition into something more attack minded and we at least spend more time the oppositions half.
I was going to make a thread on this but my view is that Championship and Premier League football are like 2 different t sports.
Slav style is focussed on Premier League style where possession is key, everyone must be conformable on the ball and be able to pass to feet.
Where as Hecky is more Championship style, possession not that important, so try longer, direct passing risking losing possession and turn matches into battles.
