West Ham - their concerns

What a sliding doors moment the whole Tevez affair was.

If they hadn't have signed because they didn't want to break the rules then we'd probably have stayed up. Where would we have been over the last 10 years had that happened!
probably league one by now

Walthamstow's finest hour

To the apologists on here, Walthy absolutely nails, glues, gaffa tapes, staples, chains and impales it on the above link. It will take you some time to work your way through it but if you can still fail to blame West Ham after reading his input then I suggest you are also the type of person who believes OJ Simpson to be an innocent man.
It really depends on what you call ‘West Ham’. The supporters didn’t make the decisions, the previous owners of the club did. They were guilty, no two ways about it, the supporters just had to go along with it, like we had to when we did things like trying to sign Evans when he’d just been released, or signing Marlon King.

The west ham fans I was working with at the time were lapping it up, so fuck them, the cockney cunts.

I have no problem with the current West Ham regime. Within two weeks they got rid of Scott Duxbury who as Club Secretary engineered the Tevez transfer deceit along with their former Icelandic owner, who managed to nearly bankrupt his own country and a very questionable third party agent.

Its history now and should not be an issue on Saturday but lets not re write history by placing all the blame with the FA and Premier League. Officials at West Ham conspired to deceive the FA and Premier League regarding Tevez's transfer. Duxbury was subsequently found guilty of mis leading the Premier League at a Tribunal. Gold, Sullivan and Brady were keen to get him out of the door due to a number of concerns about how the Clubs finances were being run.

The Premier League and FA failed by firstly not suspending Tevez for the last few games of the season when they had the opportunity to do so. Secondly under the jurisdiction of Scudamore the Premier League cut the Blades adrift and refused to support them in any way pressurising Clubs not to support us meaning only the relegated teams Watford and Charlton and the two who just survived Fulham and Wigan came out on our side. Comments from dinosaurs at the FA that a points deduction would hurt the fans only added to the view that an unfashionable Northern Club would get no justice from the Fat Cats who ran English Football.

Kevin McCabe has made a lot of bad decisions in managing the Blades over the years but one of his finest hours has to be the fact he wouldn't let this go. Against a back drop of an organised negative media campaign by the likes of Toady Fat boy Samuels, with only the excellent Henry Winter in our corner, he pushed on. Scudamore and his Pig pal Richards no doubt sneered on many occasions KM would get no where with this but he did forcing West Ham to concede at the 11th hour rather than risk a Court Hearing that they were in the wrong and subsequently compensation was paid.

Its now water under the bridge as far as the majority of both sets of supporters are concerned and a club I admired for the likes of Moore Hurst and Peters are no longer an issue for me personally. Having said that those West Ham fans who won't let this go and Fat Boy is the main one don't like us for one reason. Its not the fact we pursued the claim. Its not the fact we got £25 mill off them. Its the fact we proved we were in the right and they were wrong all along. The same applies to the likes of Scudamore and Pig Richards. The best feeling about getting promoted back to the Premiership was knowing that their stomachs will be aching for a least one football season, hopefully more.
Not sure why you keep mentioning the f.a .they had nothing to do with it
They even said if they had the power to they would find in our favour at our appeal with them

All this whets the appetite for Roy’s prematch view from.

Promises to be the most entertaining since the Bouncing Day pre match views.

Just been reading the hammers thread, and it seems like they definitely havent forgotten or stopped resenting it. Very bitter chappies over there.

The thing is the west ham fans think our anger is funny. I work with a few at times and the more upset people get the funnier they find it. They accept they broke the rules and in truth got away with it so the more we bring it up the more they laugh. We all know it wasn’t just Tevezgate that got us relegated more a combination of bad choices from January onwards. I just hope come 5pm on Saturday we can look them in the eye from the away end and say the Blades are back and who’s laughing now! COYRAWW !
What's done is done, and what goes around comes around. I call it Karma. Not sure if 20m and having a shit ground is enough for them.
Maybe an away win for the blades will finally put a lid on it ........ :)

Not sure anyone gives a fuck about West Ham or their fans, if anything McCabe did them a favour because not long after they were told they had to pay compensation the corrupt fuckers running WHU were out on their arses. Different people running them now and it really is water under the bridge. No doubt that Icelandic egg head would have totally bankrupted them had he stayed on. If their fans are still upset about it that is because the had to pay £20m which isn't a lot really, far worse was the damage to the good name of West Ham United which was the blame of those running the club at the time not Sheffield United. Like it or not they will be remembered as cheats a bit like the pig players in the 60's fixing games to people around these parts. Reality is we either laugh at or pity them having to watch football in an athletics stadium about a quarter of a mile away from the pitch.

People I don’t blame for the Tevez debacle: Tevez.

People I do blame for the Tevez debacle (rough level of anger in brackets):
  • Scott Duxbury and the West Ham board (45%), for knowing the rules, flouting them, covering up what they’d done and lying to the Premier League
  • The Premier League (45%), for dragging their feet in dealing with it and then using the time of the season as an excuse for no points deduction
  • Kia Joorabchian (5%), who knew what he was doing wasn’t allowed in the Premier League but conspired with a very willing club to make it happen
  • Trevor Brooking (3%), who almost certainly used his contacts with the Premier League to beg WHU had no points deducted
  • The West Ham fans (2%), who by and large at the time refused to recognise they’d done anything wrong (as highlighted on the Knees Up Mother Brown forum and the Mail articles by:fattwat:)

So as football fans we might like a drink and may also use Public Transport to traverse the country in order to watch our team.

I thought Alan Turing was dead?

Disagree the FA did not have a role in this. They are the football governing body and the English Premier League or FA Premier League as it was known at the time are responsible to the FA for its rules over which the FA have the power of veto. IMO the FA should have got hold of this at the outset and insisted on having input into the appointment of the Independent panel who ruled that West Ham should be fined £5.5m but not deducted points. This was left to the Premier League who had an interest in this namely to hope it went away.

It was the Chairman of the subsequent Independent Arbitration panel Sir Philip Orton QC commissioned by the FA who said if he had been the Chairman of the original Independent panel he would have ruled a points deduction was appropriate.

Your last paragraph totally contradicts your first whilst also reafirming mine

The reason the f.a did not do anything because they didn't have the power to do so

As I said in my post " The FA have the power of veto over the Premier League rules" they could have insisted on having input into the appointment of the original panel.

The PL wasn’t changing a rule though, they were enforcing an existing one.

The Football Association
The Football Association (The FA) is the national governing body for football in England and is responsible for sanctioning competition Rule Books, including the Premier League’s, and regulating on-field matters.

It also organises The FA Cup competition, in which our 20 Member Clubs compete.

The FA is also a special shareholder of the Premier League. It has the ability to exercise a vote on certain specific issues, but has no role in the day-to-day running of the Premier League.

Each year, the Premier League submits its rules to The FA for approval and sanction.

For the Premier League, The FA ensures that throughout the season the Laws of the Game are applied on the field and that the rules and regulations concerned with running football in England are observed by officials, club and players off the pitch as well as on it.

The FA also deals with all matters of on and off-field discipline.

Other areas where we work with The FA are refereeing (we both part-fund the Professional Match Game Officials Limited (PGMOL)), Youth Development, and the UK’s largest sports charity, the Football Foundation.

People seem to forget that we've met the Spammers since the 'Tevez affair'. From the excellent, upcoming 'Memries of West Ham' :)

Our most recent meeting with ‘The Irons’ came on August 26th, 2014 in the second round of the (Carling) League Cup at the old Upton Park. The game finished 1-1 at 90 minutes, no further goals were scored in extra time and the Blades won the penalty shoot-out 5-4 (scorers: Ben Davies, Neil Collins, Marc McNulty, Jay McEveley and Michael ‘Cockney Walk’ Doyle. Enner Valencia’s fifth penalty for the Hammers was saved by Blades keeper Mark Howard.

Nigel Clough’s Blades would progress to the semi-finals of the competition where they eventually lost over two legs to Tottenham Hotspurs.

Just seen myself on that, right in front of Doyle when celebrating. Top night that was.

"The East Coast Mainline is due to be disrupted on 26th October. A significant number of Blades fans will use this line making St. Pancreas a potential area of concern." Someone tell him East Coast Mainline is via Leeds and not Sheffield :(

Furthermore the East Coast mainline terminates at King's Cross - not St Pancreas ( wherever that is).

They’re still bloody at it. Steve Kabba? Which one’s clinging onto past arguments exactly?

"A lot of West Ham fans are still annoyed with what is perceived as a hypocritical stance taken by Sheffield United," explains Graeme Howlett, editor of the Hammers fanzine Knees Up Mother Brown, referencing the investigation into Steve Kabba's move to Watford from the Blades.

"It was still in their hands - they could have got enough points. It was a bit like Brexit in a way - they wanted to keep going until they got the result they wanted."

Had a brief neb on the kumb site, they really hate us on there for spreading “lies that tarnished West Ham’s good name”.
And I thought it was because they were a bunch of cheating, lying toerags who’d cheated and lied to avoid punishment from the Premier League for fielding players they weren’t entitled to have in their team?

Trevor Brooking is a cunt too.

Is it only me who doesn't really give a fuck any more?

Yeah I'm not remotely convinced the PL would have treated us the same if we'd had a player on third party ownership. I'm still convinced they hoped West Ham would go down and make it easy for them, hence the waiting.

We had bad luck with refereeing decisions, ironically one of the worst at Upton Park. But we missed three penalties.

Our approach to away games was pitiful and imho unprofessional at Villa.

Our January window was poor.

Fair play to KM for persisting and it paid the Ssntander debt. The other financial benefits were royally wasted on arguably the worst managerial appointment of my lifetime all things considered.

I still think KM would have done better losing the case and appointing a competent manager. More chance of being back in the Prem sharpish without silly wages.

All conjecture now.

Good times more likely this time imho.

No, it’s not just you. Every single time this comes up, I find myself wanting to say, “But we only needed a point. At home. Against Wigan.”

Entirely in our own hands. Yes, it was a horrible day. And Jags did a stupid handball. And Webber should have scored. And we shouldn’t have given them Unsworth. But it was Wigan, who were, are, and always will be a two bob no-mark little club from a rugby league town. Yeah, they spozzed a cup win. Yes, they did us a favour against Leeds. But it was Wigan. The day the mighty Blades can’t get a point at home against shitty little Wigan is a dark day indeed.

So enough of the “what about West Ham cheating?” It was in our own hands and we bottled it. Move on, everyone.

This gives even some of our fans a run for their money on the Great Jagielka Conspiracy stakes.

None of what happened with Tevez saga was really down to WHU. The blame is firmly with the PL. Never really got the hatred that has been created between the two sets of fans. The whole thing was due to the Premier Leagues incompetence.
Trevor brooking no one else

He was on the fa board, try fielding illegals Sunday league!
I’ve not forgot and never will cheating is cheating whether we could or should have scored or beat any others is irrelevant
