We're only 4 points clear

Of course we should guard against complacency but let's try to avoid the customary cap-doffing Bladey inferiority complex that actually stops us enjoying anything we do achieve, shall we?

On the other hand we are 3 points clear and the pressure is on our rivals to better our results. See how well that worked for spurs last season?

Not saying we are home and dried but for the first time in quite a while my cup is half full.

Don't worry, Samir will top it up for you ;)

I think it's good to see you've been on the bostik again. It isn't your camp. You appear to think you have sole ownership of positivity. Everyone will approach this in their own way, some will jump about shouting the odds to work mates, others will quietly go about their business. Others will be shitting themselves because they "know" we always blow it. None are a better way of support. I know uncle Kev bought you lunch so your faith is renewed which is bully for you. I'm just enjoying winning a lot of games, moving into the next one and so on. The fact I don't leap about like and electrocuted llama doesn't mean you are in some way more right. You are happy, I am happy. I'm guessing in their own way everyone on here is happy. Just let it ride and stop ramming your "I am considerably more right than you" down everyone's throat. No one will thank you for it in the end.

He also forgets he was the whinest, most negative poster on here last season.

I'm certainly not one to get carried away and the stats about who we've played in what positions is interesting, but at this stage of the season, we have played every team in this league and the two that we've played twice (Shrewsbury and Bury), we've done the double over. The point being that having played everyone at least once, we're top of the league. Arguably, if we'd started playing before the 6th game of the season, we'd be further ahead. It's logical that if we can maintain the performances since that 6th game, then we should have an excellent chance of being promoted and possibly as champions.

Ive already posted if you dont want to enjoy it knock yourselves out but let us who can see how strong we are just now enjoy it.I dont ram Im right down anyone .I just agree with Kevin Pages much more convincing argument .
Why do you always descend into abuse re glue sniffing and drinking jibes. It s a tactic of the unintelligent .cant find a proper argument so call names. It just demeans your outburst

It's great to be on a good run of form and top of the league.

But some seriously need to calm down.

There's 50% of the season left to go and all our rivals around us left to play.

Some seem to think we're already up, probably the same sort of people that told the pigs to "mind the gap" a few years ago and were left with egg on their faces.

We haven't had our sticky patch yet, our Sharp injury or Moore sending off or the other freak bits of bad luck that happen because we're Sheffield United.

When we're mathematically up, I'll crow with the best of them, but come on people, looooooooong way to go yet.

Nobody ever has it sewn up in early January but I'd say we're in a better position than most of us expected and it's looking about as good as it realistically can at this point. We're signing players to provide more depth and the teams around us are to come to the lane rather than us going to them. Far from a formality but it looks very promising at the moment. We should retain a degree of caution but let's not the multiple kicks in the bollocks we've had in the past prevent us from enjoying the season as it goes on with constant thoughts of "what if".

So I am unintelligent and don't have a proper argument in your view?

Latest bookies odds are 10/1 on to get promoted. That's all you need to know.

You will get similar odds against United going up so I think all the worriers should put their money down. At least they'll be able to sleep at night.

Two games in hand and some points above the unclean once as well.

pommpey

You should all take heed of Captain Pugwash, best poster on this board,as well as the above,we went and got a Desso for no reason, having to sell Jamie Murphy to be able to afford it.

This club will never learn

Douglas Iron Duke Jardine

For no other reason that I like stats like this, here is the average (current) position of all remaining games that each team has to play...

seeing as we are halfway through the season and have played everyone at least once , it doesnt take much to deduce we all have a fairly even spread of games left
anything between 10 and 14th to play is median, theres only 2 , 1 place higher and 2, 1 place lower on show

it is worth noticing we have lost to only 1 top 6 team
Bolton in game 1 when long was in goal and brayford and hussey were the backs

That's a lovely table, Selly, but it doesn't make sense. The only teams we have played twice are Bury (20th) and Shrewsbury (23rd), so we still have to play everyone else and the average must therefore be higher than 12th, unless we include not playing against ourselves, of course, which would be daft.

if we play our selves though we are assured of 3 points
lets arrange it

have a big like
its my point we are playing well
we look capable, and are dominating

I cant remember us looking this convincing when we went up with Bassett or Warnock

if you cant enjoy it now , might as well not bother

Everything just works. We have a good balance of attributes throughout the side, players that can score goals and a manager that understands all of his players and how to utilise them to the best of their ability. He keeps things simple but understands when he needs to change or tweak something. He's a very good manager there's no doubt about it.

I have confidence that they will win every time they play and when they don't I still think they will win the next one. That has been the biggest turnaround right through the club....belief.

I'll check my working tomorrow. Worth noting that the average if you still have to play every one else once would be

(300-current position)/23

Which for the team in first would be 13, and for the team in last 12.

As such I'd expect our overall average to be

(300-(1+20+23))/21=12.19.

Slightly over 12th, but lower (in value, higher on position in table) than the average if we had everyone to play...

Also worth noting that values of the averages will change as teams move up and down the table as well as because we and other teams will have completed fixtures, but it gives an idea of the overall strength remaining.

We will start to see more deviations outside of the 10-14 mean range identified by blade too long as the number of games left reduces.
