Lifestyle choice. Book written presumably for money and to enhance your profile (nothing wrong with either) but you weren’t forced to do it. You chose to do that rather than something else. That’s not a sacrifice, it’s a means to an end.

I don’t recall saying I was forced to do it, or didn’t choose to? It was absolutely my choice. But to write it in 3 months required sacrifices - believe me. Whether you do or not... I couldn’t give a flying one :D

Wholeheartedly agree. My Cardiacs book took me four years of pain and toil for numerous reasons - not all of my own making - and cost me my health, physical and mental, and almost my job. The idea of doing any book with a total gestation period of three months is nothing short of miraculous.

Well spotted, it was me who said that. ( Giving someone a kidney is an example of a sacrifice, not staying up two hours later of an evening writing)

Me neither, “poor me” drama included, but it keeps the advertising thread bumped, you should be grateful.

Ultimately still a lifestyle choice to do it GB. It’s not like making kids go up chimneys. Absolutely nothing wrong with chasing your dream but l assume it wasn’t forced on you by third parties. Repercussions like yours are a result of that choice.

I'm not against writing books entirely. However, I'm not sure I'm totally on board with the idea that the moment we start to see success, books are being written immediately to sell before we've even fully absorbed the clubs achievements. There's a vibe about that that I don't like, sorry if that's miserable. Maybe in a good few years time would have been more appropriate, where the magnitude and scale of what Wilder has achieved here can be fully recognised and appreciated with the respect it deserves.

Plus, Wilder's legacy is still ongoing, who knows what other remarkable feats worthy of a book we will achieve? I suppose sequence and completeness would go out the window in that instance, just make a separate book, more munni innit.

I disagree. Success could be tempiracy. I enjoyed the book because it was all fresh I'm my mind. It brought out the euphoria from the end of last season. I'd be quite happy to see another one next year. 😀😀

Would you prefer 'The Nigel Adkin Years'? 'Sheffield United - My Part In Their Downfall - by Danny Wilson'? 😂

Let's enjoy it while we can - success in football is very transient. WNGTW is a blow-by-blow account of a great season. This was brought back to me last Tuesday when I kept checking on Wendy's score at Hull. A win and those fuckwits who infest Radio Sheffield would have been spazzing their load. Their fans would have been the same last season - hoping we lost every game. When we didn't, it would have been like a dagger to their hearts. Fucking brilliant.

A bit of advice to stringer (or whatever you're calling yourself this week :)). Wouldn't it be better to start recording your thoughts on a game-by-game basis to be amalgamated later/at the end of the season? I do this with the updates to Denis Clarebrough's book. When I started, I had a few seasons to catch up on which is both overwhelming and prone to the odd error. Just a thought.

Yeah, that would make things a whole lot easier; I was nervous about being too pre-emptive last year in case they imploded and I blamed myself. I needn’t have worried :)

stringer, having bought this in August, I finally managed to read it (in one sitting on a long flight) 2 weeks ago. Thought it was really good, and even better than "He's one of our own". It helps that you have a great story to tell, but you capture the season's goings on really well and I do like the format you use with the interview chapters and choronology alternating. Some great nuggets in the interviews - McGoldrick's was a highlight I thought.

Hope it's selling well. All Blades should own it.

As an aside, my copy has travelled with me over 18,000 miles in the time I've owned it...
