But it was always going to be one of us 3 since about January.

One team had to miss out. Sadly it's us. Of course it's us, especially given we were in the driving seat for so long and seemed to have overcome the tougher games.

But we still have a chance to go up. I fully realise we are cursed in the playoffs but like Wilder says it will happen one day that we do in fact win them.
Its football. You don't throw the towel in. Especially given we have the quality to do it.

And perhaps it's better if you do miss out to do it before the season ends? Get mentally and physically prepared for the playoffs.

At least whoever we play in them we will have tasted victory against them all at least once...

As crap as it is, you have to hand it to Burnley and Leeds they've not let up. We did even though our points total (if we win next 2) usually would result in a top 2 finish.

If we lose these play offs then it's not a "curse" it'll be the terrible form we're in. Plain and simple. On the pitch the players look worn out, devoid of confidence, unable to complete simple tasks and leaderless. We're not entering them how we'd like to. Wilder has two games to reignite his team and get them playing. Something, results aside, he has failed to do in 39 out of 44 games. No curse at all if we blow them again this time.

Luckily for us no team is entering the play offs in great form. Sunderland are arguably in worse form than us. At least the next two games are pressure free for us unlike Coventry and Bristol City

It was the tougher games that is why we have lost out. I think we only beat Sunderland at home out of playing the top 4 sides twice each so lost 5 out of 6?

Bitterly frustrated and disappointed, the fact it was in our hands and we was clear points ahead of both burnley and Leeds and had chance to make it 5, to go and lose 3 in a row 2 against relegation fodder, we gifted promotion to them both. Massive slip up.

If we win those games, then coming into this game wouldn't matter as much regarding the loss.

It's the manner of how we threw it away that gets me, when we was fully in the driving seat.

We were absolutely flying before we lost to Wolves at Cardiff. Means nothing.

Leeds beat us 5-1 over 2 games, Burnley beat us 4-1 over 2 games.

12 points difference. We are where we deserve to be, we were pinching wins by playing shit, ugly football for a huge chunk of this season. As much as this is an art it will eventually catch up with you in the long run.

Wilder has time to fix it and get the best out of a very talented squad for the play off campaign, will he? Not so sure he is capable.

Well those are the best two teams I guess. One win against either of them would have meant the season would still be alive I guess too.

I would caveat this though. In that Burnley game on boxing day how we didn't score before them or equalise I will not know.

Leeds at home we seemed to be in control of that game for about 60 mins or so. It wasn't a 3-1 loss in a way. Can't argue about our away loss to Leeds.

Today I don't think we had the chances or play to win but take the emotion out of it a draw wouldn't have been out of the equation.

Not a chance we get through the play offs. I am normally a clapper but this has got failure written all over it.

It feels so familiar. Stuttering form, struggling to score goals and as usual 3rd best team in the league.

So frustrated by this season. Wilder and the team had done an amazing job to put us in pole position. We saw what this team can do against Coventry and then we capitulate and lose 3 winnable games in a week and hand it to Burnley and Leeds on a plate.

I can't be anything other than absolutely gutted today. I am sick and tired off failure, for once we had a chance to win the league and we blew it in a week.

Sunderland have been preparing for two weeks already you see their team today resting and rotating

He hasn't got a fckg clue mate!

Moore first 3 minutes, after that zilch

What about the shot that BBD had which he put over the bar when with a bit more care, he could have hit the top corner ? Was a great chance I thought. Also the breakaway where a Utd player was central running through with us 3 against 2, and he picked the wrong pass by playing it to BBD who had his shot blocked, whereas a simple ball out to the left had Burrows all alone and ready to pull the trigger. There were plenty of other instances where the ball bounced around in their box and a mixture of good defending and fortune got it away for them. We also had a couple of occasions where we had it at the byline and picked out the wrong man. All chances. Contrast that with Burnley's avalanche of chances....

Not saying we deserved to win, but i certainly didn't think we deserved to lose that game. Difference was another balls up again from one of the keystone cops who play centre half for us. Robinson gets slated on here at times (often deservedly) but his partner in crime in contrast (Anel), seems to get away with his mistakes not being overly criticised. Between them they've cost us a few times this season.

If we’d blown it tonight too a certain extent I’d accept it .. but we gift wrapped it to our rivals after a week of capitulation

Remember that first week back in August, we were crapping ourselves after watching the team at Huddersfield. Would we have accepted 3rd place and play off's then??? Hell yes. Leeds have the dosh, Burnley the know how. We could have suffered like Luton are doing now, chance of going straight through to Lge 1

No consolation but ours was the best goal of the three.

Their first reminded me of WBA equaliser at the Lane. A very lucky deflection off their player that fell so invitingly to their player.

Could be argued Cooper could have pushed it away from danger. It's all fine margins.

My concern is that we do not have a dominant CB. Anel struggles against big strong CB's (Millwall and Pompey being prime examples), and Robinson has far more pashun than ability. Holding played well against Cardiff but was dropped again.

We miss Souttar enormously, and our whole team, approach and style of play has been set up around him.

The disappointment is easy for me to take because we're so clearly getting what we deserve. And it is our turn to be the one missing out. Burnley are now overdue for it to happen to them

Wilder had been there before with O'Connell. He never learns as he is incapable. When it became clear there were three teams with high points totals it was obvious United would shit the bed. We don't deserve promotion and Wilder certainly doesn't.

He was dropped because he’s hardly played and wasn’t fit enough to complete 2 partial games in a few days. It’s almost negligent that our coaching team have decided to stick with JLT instead of giving a better player enough minutes to play himself into match fitness. Ridiculous when you think about it.

I just don't get how we bring a player in, presumably for a specific purpose and presumably on a not unsubstantial wage and that player not be fit enough to contribute more than they have.

Probably with the view that within a few weeks he'd be ready and because we couldn't get anyone else within our budget...

Hmm, it seems strange getting someone in on loan who's not ready to go. My only thought is that we might be looking to keep him longer term and this was an opportunity to get him in despite not being fully fit. It's just seemed an odd one

Disappointed but not surprised. There were 2 better teams than us it's that simple .
As for the playoffs it's not the league, no need to worry about how many games we have next week or the one after ,no need to preserve players or energy .
Let's rest who we need now ,prepare now and go out all guns blazing .
Rather that than go out with a whimper.

I'm a wilder fan but sometimes don't get his post match reactions. "We had good chances today"

????

I'm not a Wilder fan at all but we did have chances, we dominated the 2nd half but that Burnley defence is on another level.

Play like that in the play-offs and we have a chance. Sadly, I think we will revert to type and not show up......again.....
