Frustrating as fuck.

We play some nice football in spells, need 174 good chances before we actually score.

Needless substitutions on 60 minutes kill the whole shape of the team and momentum of the game

Go to sleep at the back x2/3

Repeat. Week in week out.

Wank.

Yep this is so true. And yes Wilder will get pelters because of what happened but to be fair on him….
Match on Monday, at 3-1 up looking comfortable, you would have thought Rothwell, Davies and Cannon could easily hold out the game.
But oh no we have a team with hearts of mice.
The defence was nothing short of horrific in those latter stages.

Not too far off play off quality imo.

That's our lowest since 2018 though. A good summer transfer window could get us well into play off mix. However it's going to be bumpy.
Currently 10/11 points behind play off quality based on next seasons extended capacity. However although great to get 3 goals we can’t be throwing that many leads away. If we are serious about promotion next season, we need to grind out any game where we have a 2 goal advantage into a win and at least pull out a draw from a 1-0 position to have a chance

We play some nice stuff, but lack ruthlessness and have the fortitude of wet cardboard when we are put under pressure.

I wouldn't say shit, but we are nowhere near good enough to trouble the top 6 again, unless we invest in some backbone.

I actually think we look like a decent side, until we're under any sort of pressure whatsoever, and then the mentality is absolutely pathetic. That's not just a throw away comment, it's literally endemic. You know exactly what's going to happen as soon as the opposition get any sort of foothold in the game.

I'd disagree. We're pretty decent, and easily one of the top 6 sides in this division.....

.....until we hit the 60 mins mark / we make substitutions / both. Then you're right, we're shite!
Which is often a pivotal period of the game.

We are bang average at best. This must be how Preston feel

Lose the next two which is quite possible, and we could be two or three places above the relegation zone. Hardly just short of play off contenders.

Part of me thinks we should be getting more out of the players, part of me thinks too many lack the backbone and application.

terrible use of the loan market (plus some shocking permanent transfer business) has left the squad short and has been exposed time after time

Judging by yesterday's performance, I'd put us mid table and maybe challenging relegation next season.

Brooks will be off, hamer doesn't give a fuck an tangagagaga or however you spell his name (I'm drunk, not racist) was an absolute waste of time.

I'm not delusional, I know that we won't win every game. But when you can predict that we'll toss off a lead every match there's something inherently wrong. When it was 3-1 I just knew that we'd piss it up the wall.

The best thing about what's happening now is that it is happening now, when we look like we can just about scrape through the rest of the season without getting seriously involved in the scrap at the bottom. Its a massive reality check for all those at the club that things need to change for the better at all levels on and off the pitch, because even in this less than bang average Championship we are not even fit for purpose at making a serious challenge for play offs, and a next season bearing even a few ingredients of what is still going wrong this season could see us fighting for survival in this division in a years time.
It's not a quick fix either,as far as recruitment is concerned,I can't see it being an over the summer job and done, even if the changes made on the pitch are largely positive,it could be a season or two of serious rebuilding and having to be a Preston,Swansea or Watford for a couple of seasons, and that's even if off the field activities are positive as well.

Just an opinion here on the defence in the latter stages. Although it seemed to me that the goals were down to two individual errors by Burrows the combined might of Runless Rothwell and the Static Hairbun let that side be overrun in the first place. Big gaps in midfield and no structure. Another Wilder masterclass in the art of substitutions. Has he ever noticed the coincidence of losing following his substitutions?

We finished 10th in 2018, and that was after we fell away badly after Coutts broke his leg.

Yeah one, key, player shouldnt have seen a slide from top to tenth if we were legitimately a top side. The next summer a few good signings and we went up.

Confidence plays such a big part in football. When that side lost it we slid down the table. When this side had it we were one of the former sides in the league over 20+ games

I find the subs odd at the moment. It's like we keep having to change how the whole team operates with each person that comes on.

I dont mind changing structure, but it doesn't seem like the players get the change over.

We’re still a bloated and poor squad, with little to no depth. Ultimately the playoff dream was never was realistic outlook and we’ve ran out of road and players checked out and have nothing tangible to play for.

I’ve found myself becoming ambivalent towards Wilder. Neither think he is the saviour and man to take us up again nor is he a busted flush. Excluding Selles’ disastrous run we are probably just in the top half - which in my mind matches this squads ability. I’d argue this shows Wilder has had an average season, but not outperformed.

So we’re a mid table side as things stand, this makes us a good summer away from a promotion chasing season and a bad summer away from a nervy relegation battle.
