It's very early to predict how good he'll become. He's got weaknesses that will always limit him, but it is in spite of these weakness that he's notched up more than 50 first team apps at the age of 18 and played for England U19s when most of similarly old players haven't played a league match. I'll add that he's yet to be a consistent part of a well balanced team playing well, that could probably help him develop as well.

PS I was there today. The rave reviews are a measure of out piss poor expectations, IMHO.

I'm with Bergen on this.

I think he might be a player who will play better in a different team. If we do go for possession football I think that will suit him.

Needs movement around him.

He'd do well in Barcelona's midfield with Suarez and Neymar to pass to ;-)

I think Adkins rates him, and has plans for him.

Let's see.

Seriously, he's notched up 50 league appearances because this is arguably the worst United team in history. :)

exactly what they said about Alan Ball at 18 , too small not strong enough cant tackle wont amount to much
 
Played well today Reedy, back to something like his best. Played a lot of simple short passes to keep the game flowing for United, even had one or two runs forward and should have scored when 1-on-1 with the keeper. If we're patient with him and play the right players and style of play around him, Reedy could be our Leon Brittan (the Swansea version rather than the one we saw at the Lane).

Baxter did well too in what I think is his best position (and to be fair the only position in the team where his defensive qualities, or lack of them, don't get exposed) in the hole between the midfield 4 and Adams.
 
MOM on our coach and thoroughly deserved. More like what we saw when he first broke into the team. As Bergen said his composure on the ball and passing defies his age. He's struggled this season, but who hasn't. Thought overall, the team did well. It was a far from perfect performance, but from the stale side we've looked for a few weeks (well maybe a lot of weeks), today was a refreshing change. Well done Blades
BTW Jose came 2nd and Che 3rd in the coach vote for MOM....UTB

Non attendance doesn't usually stop folk on here airing their views. Why should our friend Barney be singled out? I go to lots and lots of games and for me Reed as a lot to prove.

Yep, he had a decent game today but for the most part this season he's been poor.

Agree with other posts that he needs regular starts and for me, I'd loan him out for a while to accomplish same. He might develop into a player we want to invest in long term but for me at the moment we have better choices.

Expert on the donny side of things said on more than one occasion that Reed was bossing midfield
Credit Adkins on giving youngsters a chance and Young uns for taking it.
Cause for some optimism me thinks.

Give an 18 year old lad a break!!he is a great prospect but as I've said before he's a long way to go yet to make a good career in the game,but he showed today he is making progress.How on earth you can write an England youth international off amazes me.Are you sure your not
Brian the blade in disguise as he slates everything United and he only goes when he gets a free place in a box.Reeds movement and passing today was a delight to watch ,he should have scored when che teed him up but that was the only blipp on his performance and to his credit he managed to get into position to miss the chance to put the game to bed.

Sorry, he isn't up to it for me. And I'm not a fan of all the overreacting of player's abilities we get when we win. It was Coutts the other week, it seems it's Reed this. It's becoming more and more apparent the longer we're down here. Being in the third division for five years has a lot to answer for in terms of judgement. As I've said, credit to him if he's had a good game but he's had far too many poor ones to be getting excited about one that might not have been.
 
The thing is he is still only 18, still developing as a footballer and still developing physically. He might come through and be a top footballer, he has got time, and when i have seen him play well, he has looked like he has makings of a footballer. You can't really write him off just yet. I think Adkins has made an excellent call in bringing in Reed, for Basham who has been poor in several games recently.

He's no different to a dozen other dross players we have, but we must move on from this standard if we want to progress.

What's not to like? He's young. great composure, first touch, passing ability, pretty sturdy and gets stuck in, appears to be level headed..Would prefer him to be a foot taller, and be a bit more of a goal threat..But I reckon he's got the important basic attributes to suggest he'll make a career in football..I'm happy he's ours..UTB
 
Reed offers more in the middle than basham does, which doesn't say a lot but I'd keep him there based on that

Looking at your post, it did come across as a comparison between Reed being told he isn't tall enough and Messi being told he wasn't tall enough. In fact, i'm certain that's what it was. By all means fight his corner, no problem with that by the way.

Yes I think you're right there. But it was you that made the direct comparison between Messi and Reed as players. Nobody else has...I suspect most would agree Lionel is better than our Louis... In fact I'd go as far as saying that if they both played for us, Reed might have to be sub, now and again
