Just like to add, after agreeing with your outlook, that if there were no SWFC, Unitedites/SUFC wouldn't be what they are and visa versa. Both sets of supporters and clubs would lose so much of what makes this a unique situation.
As a kid, later a teenager, before all the hatred surfaced, there was always rivalry, but with huge amounts of humour in it which often was very cleaver. There were punch ups at matches but policed mainly by the crowd.
Working it out at a early age all I want from the We*ne%d$" rivalry is that Blades are always above them in the league and Blades stuff e'm every time we play them regardless of the status of the match.

What I hate more is people saying shit like that about ginger people. They're the cunts. If your mate was a different race you wouldn't bring that into it but its OK to do it based on his hair colour? You wouldn't say "He's a reyt big headed get even though he's black" Would you?

I've a thick skin and I've been alive a long time now. I really don't give a fuck what people say about me. Even to my face.
But bullying kids is abhorrently wrong no matter what its over. I've witnessed kids being bullied over being ginger (I was myself) and its fucking wrong. Kids see adults taking the piss and think its OK.

Like a lot of others I used to go and watch them occasionally, though the last time that happened was in the 1980s. I saw them become the first team to defeat Man Utd in 1984/85 and there were 48,000 in there. Two weeks later they couldn't even muster 19k to their next home league game.

That sums up the mythology that most of their fanbace (sic) believes in to this day. Because they had a large capacity ground a lot of travelling fans and neutrals (not that I was theoretically neutral) would go to their bigger games. They've always believed that this proves how well they are supported.

That's the main difference for me between our supporters and theirs, though it's a sweeping generalisation as it always is. More than geography and whether you come from Gleadless or Firth Park, what separates us is mentality and we all surely know that we are pessimists and they are eternal optimists beyond the point of delusion.

I prefer pessimism, it never lets you down.

In my earlier years I also hopped on the good foot and did the bad thing (on many occasions) with a Pig supporting girlfriend. I also had a female 'acquaintance' who supported dirty Leeds. On many occasions I would ask my female friends (not at the sane time obviously) to wear their respective club shirts for me during the act of copulation. They always did so willingly. I did however always make sure that the royal rogering that I delivered was done so in the doggy position so that I had the sense of a Bladesman dominating the filth. There was no cosy loving missionary position or kissing afterwards whilst they wore their respective shit rags. If they wanted a kiss or cuddle afterwards I was insistent that they removed the offending garment (though subtly suggested by me so that they didnt catch on that I was doing the 'wear a shirt thing' for my own personal Blades power trip).

Nowadays my wife, whilst not a match attendee, is a Blade (as her old man was) so the wearing of a pig shirt option doesnt happen (I ask her to wear other things instead ).

As for Wednesday, I don't hate them. They arent worth the effort. But I do actively enjoy them having bad results and any bad news that they have. When they win it always irritates me a little for 5 mins.

I’ve been to lane and seen many clubs man United liverpool villa etc. Even pigs totally take over half of ground , in them days it’s what happened quite a lot. You had to just deal with it best you could. Pigs did and probably still do have the bigger support. Not by much now because the gaps been bridged a lot in last 3 years especially. The word hates strong but I use to really hate em in the 70s 80s 90s but last 10 years I’ve mellowed towards em. Don’t like em at all but can’t be arsed to hate no more, boozers I booze in are all more or less 50/50 and everybody’s sound with each other really. Good banter. Except derby day

TBH I've got lots of mates who are Owls (as were all my older family), and they're just as fatalistic as us. They've watched just as much shite as us, and they can recognise it when they see it. And I like them being around for the rivalry and banter, having spent much of my working life in Leeds, where they don't have it, and have to rustle up a pretend rivalry with Man Utd, which I know from also working in Mancs for a few years, is met with a shake of the head and total indifference from Man Utd fans.....

Went out with some friends yesterday, a couple are Wednesday fans. We were talking about the playoffs and they said if they got to the playoff final they’d be taking at least 50,000 fans. They went on to say if they played Sunderland they’d probably set a record crowd for Wembley and if they played a smaller team e.g Wycombe, Wednesday will win before a ball has even been kicked due to the amount a Wednesday fans there.

The people I was out with are smart people but seem to love in fantasyland when it comes to that shit club

In fairness thousands would come out of the woodwork for any of their "big" games. It happens at all small clubs. Chessie took 10,000 to Chelsea and 30,000+ to the fa Cup semi at Old Trafford a few years ago, and even non league teams take more away to big cup ties than they get at home. So no reason why the little club from S6 would be any different.

And as for a different discussion on this thread about them.......I want them not to exist. I don't want them relegated or starting again in non league, I want them gone.
