Webster and Gregory

Did he have some shots? I must've missed the fuckers. :)

More or less agree with your last sentence but i'd like to see Gregory play with better players, I think he could offer something.

I seem to recall a couple but am not too sure myself now I come to think of it :D

Gregory is clearly better than tonight's showing. Wonder if he will stay there of Millwall don't go up?

They were both poor tonight but its one game. For me neither offer the one big thing we need to improve - pace.

What is with the obsession with pace from our supporters. I don't recall any really good players with a lot of pace in this division.

Ricky Holmes I guess would be the stand out player but I wouldn't say he would be faster than Lavery/Done?

It seems to be the new "in" thing that you need pace to play in the Championship.. Which is obviously not true.

Ricky Holmes is the only player from this league that would now improve us with any significance in my opinion. I'm sure will be in for him again as well. Seems a top bloke as well as a quality player.

a lot of folk thought Coutts and Freeman were shite until Wilder came in. If he sees potential in either of them to play a part I'll trust his judgement, not got much wrong so far

Hard to make a judgement on Gregory when Millwall just lumped hopeful balls up to all game so would like to see him again but i thought Webster looked shite and like an accident waiting to happen so no thank you to him

Harsh to base view on Gregory on last nights game, they were awful and he didn't get any service. Did billy sharp do anymore than Gregory yesterday? Yet he's the best striker in the league

Because Sharp isn't good enough for the Championship.

Out of his 197 league goals, nearly 80 have come in the Championship.

Just because he hasn't scored for 2 weeks don't start writing him off. Getting to age 31 does not magically mean that you lose that goal scorer's nose.

For me he will start next season up front. When a bloke has scored nearly 30 goals the season before, it would be madness to do anything else.

Yes he did actually. In the first half he did a lot of work OUTSIDE the box and pulled their defenders all over the place. He quietened down in the second, but he never got a decent chance.

Not his best game of the season, but no reason for a few on here to write him off. Again!

Oh dear , i have gone and upset the Billy men , and I'm not even a Catholic !
I didn't say "fuck him off" if we go up.
I said he's my hero captain this season and will stay , in some capacity , maybe sub.
I said bye-bye McNulty , Clarke & Done for reasons too obvious to rehearse here.
I said Billy will start if the Board don't buy younger faster strikers of a higher quality than Billy.
God knows how much that costs and whether we'll spend it.
Lavery has time to develop , if not crocked by Gerrard's block which i was about 15 yards from and heard as much as saw. Lav put his full force into a goalscoring shot and hit the brick wall that is Gerrard.
After that , who've we got ?
Billy , an ex-Championship scorer (so he has the pedigree) who remains remarkably injury-free , but isn't getting any younger. He could help us struggle to survive , but our future progress can't depend on him.
Hanson , a willing presser and winner of the majority of his headers (which Billy rarely feeds off) but who has never played above this level.
If that is our first-choice pair in the higher division , will we score enough to survive ? Barely.
So logically we must get at least one , if not two strikers - and if the Club has ambitions , it is no good getting strikers who are older or slower or lower quality than Billy.
This is not being disrespectful to Billy , it is just logic.
If we don't get a better striker than Billy in the summer , i will conclude my Club has lost its ambition.
And with McCabe in charge , i have every right to be vigilant on that score.

Not writing him off, I clearly state in my first post that he's the best striker in the league!. I'm just stating that he did no more than what Gregory did last night, therefore it's unfair to judge Gregory on last nights game

So that's it then? Toys out of the pram and no faith in Wilder?

Yes because the near £50m that we owe him/Scarborough/family only kept us in business. Why hasn't he had the 'ambition' to put a bid in for Messi?

For me the team will need some changes next season. Sharp, Lavery and Hanson will not be up to the champoinship every week but with 2 new forwards would make a good set of 5 forwards to rotate during the season.

Two new c backs will be needed with EEL going back and i would think Wilson moving on giving us 5 to pick from

Midfield looks good to me.

a new left wing back for me please and a right wing back as cover ( Riley?)

Long to move on and an experienced old head keeper to be on the bench.

I would be happy with that little lot

Moving on would be McNulty, Scougal, Hussey, Done, Long, Clarke, Wilson.

Out on loan from the club, Whiteman, Reed, Brooks, Jake Wright jnr, Semple, Slater.

Freeman has scored more goals than Gregory in open play this season. I think we need way way better than him.

I would like us to sign him, but don`t understand why CW didn`t try to get him in the Summer, or did he ?

I think we'll sign Gregory to compete with Sharp and someone else to lead the line.

Neither for me in the Championship.

Gregory scored around 10 last season in fairness but he never particularly impresses me when I see him play. Maybe missed on purpose tonight ;)

Neither that young either, Webster especially.

That said I trust this management team with recruitment more than any for a long time.

27 in all competitions last season.

16 in the league so far this season.

I think he’s a good striker but I wonder if he’s too similar to Sharp in that both are quite reliant on good service rather than either being able to pick the ball up from deep and run at the opposition like Lavery for example. That said, if Done, McNulty and possibly Clarke move on, there might be room for Gregory and another to come in. Ideally, the other would be big AND quick in the Assombalonga, Bogle, Abraham mould.

What did Morrison do when he came on?

I thought he was one of the reasons they didn't create nothing in the last 10 to 15 mins when they had a lot of the ball, his movement was shite and when he had the ball at his feet he looked sloppy and didn't move the ball off quick enough, he looked unfit to me.

I don’t think he was 100% and he’s knocking on now. He’s a big strong forward but not very mobile.

Is he significantly better than Duffy? I’m not sure.

Things could have changed for all I know, its just what I heard this week.

Certainly not worth me starting a thread on that rumour like sun jihai.

I don't think Gregory is a Championship quality player.

Forget that he has a 100% Blade tattoo on his arse . He ain't good enough and never will be .

Not wort taking a punt on IMO . We need a player with pace .

For me being in the Championship means our best players won't poached by teams in the Championship. That was always a bind in league one.
I honestly think 8 of the regular 11 will make journey with us into the Championship.
