We will win tonight

They will be fired up for this. They will see the Carling Cup as a very strong possibility of their only realistic chance of silverware. I expect Soton to be at full-strength allowing for injuries.

That said, I've just had a fiver on Jamie Murphy to score first and Blades to win 2-1......ya never know!

Best we can hope for tonight is a replay if i'm honest. Can't see us beating them.

**EDIT - Not sure if there are replays on 2nd thought. I know there isn't in the earlier rounds, but didn't know if they are effective in the later rounds??

Nope. Everything settled on the night these days.

Think we'll revert to type for this one

-----------------------Howard
Flynn-----Basham----McEverley----Harris
-------------------Doyle---Reed
------------------------Scoogs
Murphy-------------------------------------JCR
-------------------------Baxter

I don't know why, but I'm feeling weirdly optimistic. 2-1 Blades.

I think Reed and Scoogs are unavailable through injury?

Whilst I agree we have played poorly too often for comfort, I don't think there has been any lack of commitment. Surely the amount of late goals scored speaks volumes for that? Some of our players are not good enough, but we have few, if any, "shallow bastards". Actually, one who can be identified as lacking commitment is a fans' favourite who, in the great S2 tradition, is just getting better and better the less he plays for us. That, of course, is contrary to the party line so it's probably Nigel's fault.

It is a good point regarding the late goals, although even they seem to have dried up a little of late, and offset with one or two early goals....

I should probably have said 75% shallow :-)

Well that shows how much my father-in-law knows then! ;)

Mine is over 90 and never been to a football match! Then again, I've never had an allotment or smoked a pipe! :)

Should be over 21k by kick-off. I don't think that's a particularly disappointing turnout. However much we dedicated fans might admire Southampton, they are just not a crowd-pulling 'name'. Add to that our form, the unusual number of home fixtures lately, ST holders having to pay (!) and the Christmas factor and it's understandable.

My brother bought two on the South yesterday and struggled to get them together. Didn't look at the kop though

Win or lose, we need to make sure they've been in a game.

Ignore the league form and let's all get Bramall Lane fucking rocking tonight. This is a huge game for us and we have nothing to lose.

Won't be rocking with attendance of 14k

decided to have a cheeky little quid on your prediction copenhagen as you sounded so confident and got 75/1! will pay for semi tickets i suppose if wins

Feeling confident about this game. These games suit Clough, he can sit back and play defensive and try to nick a goal, 1-0 to us Murphy the scorer. UTB

Fantastic confidence Copenhagen, and I take my hat of to you. To be honest, I think we will be running around like headless chickens, they have gone off the boil a little but are still a far superior team to us, hope I'm wrong but can see nothing but a heavy defeat

Attendances don’t bother me, and I know it’s a reference point used a lot, but the Aston Villa FA Cup match (home, Liddell scored, we won) showed what an atmosphere an under par attendance can stirr up.

Pelle is out, Davis is out, Schneidelin struggling - I'm not at all expectant, but, and its a big but, this is Bramall Lane under the lights, underdog v one of the top dogs, we couldn't could we?!

I think the players have to stand up and be counted tonight . 3 points are not at stake , and playing a footballing premier league team like Southampton , should provide a top performance from the Blades . If this game does not motivate the players , nothing ever will .

I am not too fussed if we do not win , i just want to see a cracking game of football for a change.

UTB

I am sooooo looking forward to freezing my **** off watching 22 blokes kick a ball around a piece of mud - haven't looked forward to anything so much for yonks - come on you red and white wizards :)

Football is all about confidence and at the moment I bet Southampton's is pretty low and we can take advantage of that. I thought that West Ham would knock us out but we survived that tie and see Southampton as an easier game and at home.

no unfortunately not, so will just have to pay for my tickets myself rather than the bookie! i will eagerly await the next prediction and will spread my bets around it.

Every time I predict a heavy defeat Copehagen, we play out of our skins, so I confidently predict another heavy defeat in the Semi's. You post was spot on.
