We need to talk about Sydie Peck

I wish we had some clarity about how bad his injury is, not sure if Wilder is just been awkward about it or if it is a long term injury.

Yeah I didn't like his comments pre-match the other day. Not sure why the frostiness when he was always going to be asked questions on injuries.

Two games without Peck, two games where our midfield has been non-existent.

Maybe, just maybe, those further up this thread wanting him dropped can now see they completely misjudged the situation.
i was one of them but its only since riedawald came in enabling peck to play further forward that weve seen the best of him and hes played really well unlike early season in the defensive midfielder role where he was awful

Are we sure it’s an injury ?

Why was Wilder more than a wee bit prickly when asked ?

“He is unavailable” is, as far as I am aware, all we got.

Beattie Flu ??

UTB

Wilder's comments in the presser suggested that Peck's injury might not be as bad as feared. Not available tomorrow but possibly later in the festive season was the impression I got.

Calf injury wasnt it?
Arblaster will pick up soon and Peck will struggle to win his place back.

I’ve got a feeling that Sydie Peck may well be leaving in the January transfer window. The response from Chris Wilder when asked about his injury and likely absence, was even by his standard
Said the same to my mate earlier in the week. Calf injury comes with a c4 week designation and an easy answer for Wilder of "he'll be back in the NY". Wilders vagueness on this has me thinking someone's got a pot of cash on the table and we're stringing things along.

My nervousness on this is completely based on Wilders ability to blow pots of cash on players like Cannon, McBurnie and Brewster....

David Brooks went for £13M, what 8 years ago, after one breakthrough season? We gotta be taking decent double figures if we're in the realms of an offer we can't refuse with a 'can't play for your again' caveat.

I don't think he's off, FWIW, just a niggly injury, going into the notoriously hardest period of the season, and Davis, Blaster, Matos and Soumare can't be guaranteed to be where we need them, so Peck is being wrapped in cotton wool.

Arblaster getting back to fitness changes the whole deal really. If it's anywhere near £20m with a loan back, you have to take it IMO. Especially considering we are very unlikely to be promoted.

It's arguable he gets into our best side I can't see a premier league side paying 20 million for him!

Peck and Hamer combined could be £30m this summer 👍

The MF didn't look settled/efficient until Sydie Peck came on, the balance between him a Philips made all the difference in the latter stages of the pompey on sat.
For me (atm) Sydie Peck is the glue, the general that holds the MF together, when he was out injured the midfield struggled.
A pairing of Peck & Philip's/Riedewald is the way forward for rest of the season.
Arblaster isn't ready he needs time, dare i say a pre season under his belt. Soumare is inconsistent but theres definitely a player in there that needs time. Rothwell hasn't helped himself with a 3 match ban when he needs playing time and tbh I wasn't a big fan of his at Ibrox.

Just needs a proper haircut. Only thing stopping him from being an elite footballer. Love him in all seriousness. What a job the academy has done in recent years!

Old Sydie has really upset them over on Porktalk, he's even got his own thread hilariously called Peck(er).
Apparently he shat himself when the 6 million dollar man Ingelsson came over to sort him out, you know the one who was rolling around the pitch and then could hardly walk off the pitch but by the time they had rebuilt him with a new leg he was running around after 30 seconds of coming back on.

What was it he did that so wound up the Swedish nob anyway? One second he’s celebrating with John Street, the next he’s being attacked by a tosspot.
